by groug on Sep 12, 2009 8:22 PM PDT up reply actions

I’m not arguing that point. The Giants are bad in these situations because they, quite simply, cannot hit. This is valuable information because it somewhat debunks the theory that being fast or good at small ball is enough to make up for lack of hitting ability. It doesn’t please me that this team, my team, is the example against, but there it is.

Garko probably won’t stick around long enough for his luck to even out, so I’ll give you that one

Its not the guy so much as the trade itself. Heatley plus a 5th for Michalek, Cheechoo, and a 2nd was an absolute steal. Like, on the level of Sturm, Stuart, and Primeau for Joe Thornton.

I would be a fan of the Sharks, but I watched too much Ducks hockey in 06-07, when I started getting into hockey.

And we’re supposedly getting our own SBN blog soon, so that’s exciting. And hey, at least we haven’t changed to the Los Angeles Ducks of Anaheim.

Yup, I’m on there. But like he admits, he’s not terribly in-depth, which is what I’m hoping for from the new blog.\

I see Perry as “getting in your head”, but deep down I know he’s a punk. If you had him on your team, you might think the same thing.

Insanity is just a state of mind.

by KTJ on Sep 12, 2009 9:31 PM PDT up reply actions

Very true. I remember the time he linked to one of my blog posts about a Ducks prospect (he was picked with the Sharks former draft pick that was traded 6 times in a year… long story), because I knew more about Palmieri than he did.

But, yeah. Anaheim Calling should be a bit more in-depth, less BSG-oriented than Sleek.

And I still hate Perry for cross-checking Nabby on the back of the legs and then having the audacity to say that Nabokov should be suspended. And then tackling Boucher and stomping on him at the end of the game. One of my favorite moments last season was when Rob Blake speared him in the nuts.

I propose that from here on out, not one player that hasn’t played a stint in Fresno this or last year can be in the lineup (excluding pitchers, of course). At this point, the only good that could come out of the games is giving the young guys some big league experience.

It’ll never, ever happen because of Bochy and his strange fetish for veterans, but I’d like it too.

ARRRRGGH. I didn’t think he was this stupid. Nice that “sources” close to him are saying he’s a quiet humble guy who’s relying on others to get it worked out. OK, whatever. If he wanted to be on the field, he’d be on the field. BLERG

Guys, there’s still time to turn on the Rockies game and see them improbably win another game in the bottom of the ninth.

by grape on Sep 12, 2009 9:15 PM PDT reply actions

The difference is that the Giants aren’t in Pittsburgh. And that the Steelers and Pens stole all the winning-ness from the Pirates.

Doesn’t matter.

Marlins win the WC every 6 years and then win the World Series. See 1997, 2003.

When you move to the bay area, you keep your winners with you.

Was easy to forget the Pirates when you come out here in ’93 at the same time as Bonds.

by Chub Feeney on Sep 12, 2009 9:21 PM PDT up reply actions

The Rockies have been fattening up on a succession of Bum of the Month Club members. To their credit, the are doing what they are supposed to do. Unlike the Giants, who dropped two of three to the Reds and Padres at home recently.
