Sick and Tired of all these lame "we're done posts"

No offense to any of the publishers of those posts, nothing personal, it's just that there are 20 games left, and we are 5 and a half games back. I do believe that we will win the next 2 against the dodgers, and sweep the rockies. Hopefully the padres can take at least 1 from the rockies and hold on to a win(unlike last night). Listen up guys, it ain't over it till its over. I haven't seen the season done yet, there is still a lot of basebal to be played. From now on, I really don't want to see who we can get in free agency, or who we can trade, and this year's been good guys. Yeah our offense is a piece of crap, terrible. But remember, these are professional athletes, they want to go out there and get that win, to exceed. Once we get a win, the confidence and the swag will be back. So keep your heads up and watch those games, one by one when that last game against the padres hits, the giants will for sure be in the dogfight to take the wildcard lead. Who's with me?

Nice of the Giants PR office to weigh in on season status! =p

The fact of the matter is, we will all still watch the games. We bitch because it is cathartic. They are almost certainly “done”, but it doesn’t mean we care any less.

One last thing:

From now on, I really don’t want to see who we can get in free agency, or who we can trade, and this year’s been good guys.

I decided to do a fictional league with a fantasy draft for now, to figure out how the game works, and my team is pretty damn awesome, I have to say.

Though I haven’t actually started the season yet or anything… it seems pretty complicated and it seems like it has a steep learning curve, but it seems like it’ll be really rewarding once you figure it out.

One of the problems is that the Giants don’t play the game right. How about knocking in a run with a man on third and less than two outs? How about making adjustments (one such adjustment would be to change the locks on the Giants locker room and “forget” to tell Renteria, Winn, Molina and Rowand).

Oh god make it stop. It’s not the fricking magic little things. It’s the big things, like not making outs. The little things MIGHT make a 3-1 loss a 3-2 loss. And besides, as people have posted ad nauseum, the Giants are doing the little things quite well this year. They just don’t get enough baserunners to drive in.

by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on Sep 12, 2009 2:09 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

Mediocre lineups look better with middle of the order pop.

This lineup would still look mediocre. Pablo stays, Molina goes, and most every other bat is due or eligible for an upgrade. You can prolong the inevitable for only so long. We were all pleasantly surprised with this years club and the remarkable chemistry that made this season possible. We have been fed shitty contracts for so long that it all tastes like chicken. We cry for youth but pine for established talent. this club has been hampered by bad bats from day one. Pitching, lights out. Hopefully with some decent oversight, this has a Braves like run of success, with Posey as our Chipper, and the staff as our backbone.

Some quick calculations:

The Giants have lost 66 games and have been outscored in those games by a combined 223 runs. That averages out to an average margin of 3.38 runs per game.

Of those 66 losses, the Giants have been shut out 8 times and have been held to 1 run 21 times. So, in 43.9% (!) of their losses, they’ve been held to one or no runs. In the 66 losses, the Giants have scored a combined 151 runs – that works out to an average of 2.29 runs per game in losses. Aside from one freakish game where the Giants scored 11 runs and lost, the average is 2.15 runs per loss.

Yeah, I’d say we have bigger concerns than “the little things.”

hi Dub4lif3

I respect your optimism and I know we are not mathematically eliminated yet, but there seems to be a very small chance that we can pull this thing off. I would put it at <5%. I am curious at what you think our chances are.

(There are probably different ways to think about chance. Here I am imagining if this universe is duplicated 99 times → 100 total. In how many of these will the Giants get into the playoff.)

I am so done with the Giants

While I am glad that they have been able to compete for the first time in about 1,000 years, it is gutwrenching and infuriating to watch them continually squander good situations, such as runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, and only get 1 run out of it. The horrible plate discipline and situational hitting is so bad, I have to wonder if anyone in the organization even talks about it. The only good that can come out of this late season futility is the firing of Sabean (PLEASE!) and Bochy(though I’m not sure who to replace him with.)

On a side note, am I the only one to notice this infuriating trend of A’s fans liking the Dodgers, and Dodgers fans liking the A’s? My coworker the A’s fan always has some trash talking for me when the Giants lose, especially against the Dodgers, and some buddies from Santa Barbara who live here in Santa Cruz are A’s fans besides being minions of the evil empire! All I can say is, if I lived down south, which I grew up in SLO, I would never be a stupid Angels fan! Rant over

I really would like the giants to make one of those miracle runs. But I do not see it. If there are two reasons, they are,

At this point....

Lets say the Rockies finish at their season pace and not on a hot streak…that means they go 10-8 to finish the season. Their magic number is 15….so the Giants will need to go 14-5 to finish the season to tie.

Do you really see that happening? It could, it’s just not very likely. Although it is mathematically possible to reach that record with no five game winning streaks….
