I haz sad.
The Scoop: As he sits unused on the Giants’ big league bench, Posey has plenty of time to reflect on an outstanding first full pro season, which included throwing out 39 of 84 basestealers (46 percent). Posey may not have matched Matt Wieters’ pro debut in 2008 (.355/.454/.600 in the Carolina and Eastern leagues), but it still ranks among the best debuts by a catching prospect in years. Everything is set up for Posey to become the Giants stater next year, when pending free agent Bengie Molina may be on another club’s roster.
Clearly this man belongs in LF
nah
I’m pretty sure if he actually played right now every pitch would go to the backstop. The ones he catches will get thrown back into CF. We really can’t trust him…
when he pitched in college he supposedly threw 92mph. This is just too hard a throw for a pitcher or infielder to catch. This could really be a problem.

Nah.
I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

But his throws won’t reach 92mph, will they? throwing mechanics for a catcher are entirely different from pitching mechanics.
Brand new adoptive daddy for the Big Unit. Congrats go out to my son for his 300th win. Only 211 more wins until he catches Cy Young!

no, I’m pretty sure that anytime a guy tried to steal he would go into a pitching windup to throw it down to 2B.

I prefer a slide-step from a catcher.
Giant Dirtbags: John Bowker, Steve Hammond. MIA List: Todd Jennings, Brian Anderson

Why is no one able to get a good photo on Bumgarner? Every picture I’ve seen of him he’s either doing that FFFFF look or the creepy eyes one.
You want to see a walk? Then go watch the mailman.
I have one of him staring out of the San Jose dugout chewing on a blueberry DumDum

from the chat
Ben Badler: Congratulations to Jason Heyward on winning BA’s Minor League Player of the Year award. I know for most people September and October are the best months of the baseball season, but mostly I just go into minor league withdrawals. Luckily God invented Pablo Sandoval.

I can’t read the name Buster Posey and not feel like my head is going to explode wondering why has spent the last ten days shining batting helmets all while the Giants have gone 4-4 with their starting catcher hitting .240/.240/.400. In that stretch of 25 at bats this unnamed catcher (hint: he runs from home to first in 68 seconds) 6.8 has 1 walk , 3 RBI and 1 xtra base-hit.
are you saying that Posey is polishing the veteran’s helmets? Wow, that’s far worse than any other rookie hazing I’ve heard of.

polishing the veteran’s helmets…
I thought that was Bochy’s job…

I choose to be irrationally exuberant over the prospects of one Thomas Neal.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

but it’s not irrational….

If he does well in AA next year, he might be up by August or September of 2010. Otherwise, yeah, 2011 probably.

is it a given that he goes to AA and not AAA?

It’s funny how people now expect Giant prospects to skip AA. There’s no real reason for it, and no other team does it.
HA HA HA LOOK AT ME I'M ALL HAPPY AND STUFF NO REALLY CAN WE STOP WITH THE COOKYMAN IS SAD JOKES?
:-) :-) :-)
Posey did it. But he’s an exception.

Apart from geographic considerations,
Dodd is murder on hitters. It’s an extreme pitcher’s park. There are psychological reasons why you might want to have a hitting prospect skip a stint w/ the Defenders.
Billy Hayes: His job is better than yours.
so he can rot on the bench for not being veteranny enough

Holy crap
Neal is black? Thomas Neal seemed like the whitest name to me for some reason.
I choose to watch the Giants try to score runs. Not because it is easy, but because it is hard.

Sir Thomas Neal
Kind of sounds like a very proper British gentleman.
