Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

Posey has waited and watched eight major league games since his surprising call-up Sept. 2 and still hasn't made his major league debut, which has led to any number of tinfoil-hat theories — a rift between manager Bruce Bochy and general manager Brian Sabean being the most outlandish of the bunch.

Bochy, usually slow to anger, was incensed at the suggestion he doesn't want Posey on the roster.

"It's unbelievable," he said. "I don't know how somebody can (write) that without asking me."

Wow, I am normally a big fan of Baggs for his insight and usually unbiased (for fans and management) reporting. But this goes beyond rediculous, come on why the heck isn’t Buster pinch hitting on monday? Why is Whiteside getting starts over Buster? Come on Baggs, Bochy’s big headed BS can’t be fooling you can it? Like most people I understand the sentiment of Bochy, but noone, not even Whiteside would have been upset about Buster pinch hitting on monday especially after Whiteside caught 12 innings on sunday. Maybe Bochy threatend to kick him out of the clubhouse if he didn’t report what he wanted him to, because that whole article was just stupid to me.

My Will Clark will kick your honor student's ass!

The best thing is Bochy’s comment “I don’t know how somebody could write that without asking me?” Like he would tell us the truth if he didn’t want Posey on the roster! Bochy, it’s deeds, not words. We all know you’re going to say you’re happy that he’s here, but your refusal to play him, even in a blowout when your starting catcher was injured tells us all we need to know.

Grant is a better writer than anyone covering the GIants, but I’m glad he’s here and not working for a newspaper. These newspaper guys get close to the players, coaches and manager, and it clouds their objectivity. If he actually covered the Giants, he would also have to worry about someone like Molina waiting for him outside the press gate to kick his ass! It might affect his ability to write what he really feels.

We are down to what 2-3 beat writers? Some teams even less. When you start looking around and seeing less faces you know in a job and less faces period that has to effect a writer wheather he wants it to or not.

Wow Baggs ...

Really?

This article is pathetic.

the Giants needed more catching depth. With Posey providing that depth, Bochy has more freedom to pinch run for Molina in a crucial spot or double switch late in games.

Yep, still waiting on Bork to, you know, make use of that “freedom”

If the Giants are eliminated, they’ll have plenty of chances to play Posey in the final days. So you’ll excuse them if they hope the future remains just a bit distant yet.

Yep, I’m sure there will be no rust on the kid after 3 weeks of doing nothing but riding pine and catching in the bullpen. Jesus, if he doesn’t go all Pujols on the league in the last 2 weeks, he’ll probably get Frandsended for the next 3 years.

On KNBR yesterday, both John Shea and FP Santangelo said they heard from “source deep within the organization” that they are not at liberty to reveal, that the move was made because the FO was not please with the way Molina has sat out games and at least partially done to light a fire under him.

that is actually so true

since coming back on Sept 2 (the day Buster was called up), Bengie has been on base 6 times with 6 hits and zero walks and one of the hits was a homerun so really he has been in a position to be run for just 5 times. So I guess it all makes sense now…

by capn on Sep 11, 2009 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions

In the midst of the all the Bengie bashing, (which I’ve enjoyed as much as anyone) let me say this to Giants’ management. If you don’t offer the guy a new contract, (and you’re right to not do this, by the way) you can’t blame him for protecting himself by not playing when hurt. He’s a free agent, and if he reinjures himself and misses the last few weeks of the season it cost him a million or two. The Giants’ can’t have it both ways.

I doubt that I came up in any context other than “some fan sites and Tim Kawakami were thinking…”, and Bochy’s comment was almost entirely directed toward anyone with a press pass who might have written something on the situation.

There is no rift between me and Baggs. I’m not sure how you can start a FanShot on it without e-mailing me first.

And Bochy’s logic is that he’d rather fail with the hitters who have failed him all year long rather than fail with hitters he doesn’t know. Whatever.

Seriously though, it seems like Baggs thinks the rift thing is ridiculous because he thinks it’s ridiculous. Still doesn’t explain why Bork Bork wouldn’t put Posey into a blowout for Molina when Whiteside had played extra innings the night before. If it isn’t a rift between management and Bochy, the Bochy is definitely giving Benjie a lavender oil scented backrub.

I couldn’t believe some of the fans’ comments I’ve read on Baggs’ blog the last few days. I’m stunned that there are that many fans who agree with Bochy about playing the veterans down the stretch.
