It’s too bad he they didn’t let him start one last time in S.F. on Monday

I’d hate to see an injured pitcher shut us out with a 65ph changeup, though.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

Yup, 65 per hour. That’s exactly what I meant to type. He can throw 65 of them in an hour.

I will always remember fondly as the first Giants ace I got to watch. Robbing the Dodgers blind only makes him a greater Giant IMO.

Russ Ortiz was a Good Giant. In his first stint, at least.

Brian Sabean wants to kick tires. I want to kick Brian Sabean.

Loved him too, but he never exuded that “you guys are in trouble” feeling for me.

Not like Burkett and Swift did in 1993!

I'm thinking but nothing's happening.

by JRPhillips on Aug 8, 2009 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions

He didn’t suck in his second stint, either. I mean, that could have worked out very, very poorly (as far as zero risk signings go), and it didn’t.

wow, how young do you have to be to have missed Estes’ good year?

He was decent in 2000 and 2001 too, though he did pitch like shit in the elimination game in ’01.

by groug on Aug 8, 2009 9:21 PM PDT up reply actions

agreed, but I don’t think you’d call him an “ace” those years. He was pretty much average.

Aye

I agree with everything you said

by Kestrel76 on Aug 8, 2009 5:01 PM PDT up reply actions

I won’t pretend to be a bigger man than having nothing to do with the dodger defector, but his 16 strikeout game was one of the coolest things I ever saw.

This is a good point

That game was extremely cool.

I wish the home crowd could have booed him once as a dodger

but maybe it is good for his legacy that we didn’t get to.

by kezargiants on Aug 8, 2009 5:58 PM PDT reply actions

Wow, I never got to? I feel like I booed him every day for the last three years!

He never should have signed with the Dodgers. They ruined him.

I'm thinking but nothing's happening.

by JRPhillips on Aug 8, 2009 7:52 PM PDT up reply actions

He wasn’t evil before going to the Dodgers, you know. They did it to him.

I'm thinking but nothing's happening.

by JRPhillips on Aug 9, 2009 8:30 PM PDT up reply actions

He needs to do the JT Snow thing and retire as a Giant. First he has to denounce the Dodgers and laugh at them in public for taking so much of McCourt’s money.

bonus

he joins the ownership group and uses the McCourt money to help fund Timmy’s extension

or defray zito, whichever suze orman would advise

by shanghaijim on Aug 8, 2009 11:39 PM PDT up reply actions

It would be really something if he denounces the Dodgers after he made that public statement about how his wife and family are all Dodger fans and he always wanted to play for them or something like that.
