This is not exactly the most scientific work, but I was bored and wanted to see how Pablo would fare if he had the benefit of playing his home games in Philadelphia. So, I took Pablo’s hit-chart at ATT and super-imposed Citizens Bank over it. Looks like about 9 more clear-cut homeruns, possibly more.

Potential inaccuracies include:
1. Are both ballparks to scale?
2. Are hits marked where they land on a fly and not where they eventually end up after rolling?
3. How accurately are the hits marked?

The charts are taken from MLB.com, so I would assume that they maintain some level of accuracy on all 3 of the above points. Again, this may be wildly inaccurate, but it’s sorta fun to think about nonetheless.

Ha ha

He’d have as many dingerz as anyone in that lineup. Panda Ball = Sluggerific!

This also doesn’t account for the height of the fences at CBB or the trajectory of Pablo’s hits.

Cool idea, though.

60-48 - Giants Series Record: 20-10-4, 15-2 at home

Adopted Giant: Daryl "Dealio" Maday - 3.58 ERA, .273 BAA, 50 K and 30 BB in a tad over 100 innings. Meh.

Yeah, I thought about that too, but couldn’t think of how to word it…Trajectory was the word I was looking for.

And how the ball travels in each location – mostly a factor of wind, but also temperature/humidity and such…

My stat sonar was going off, and now I know why

Seriously though, this is really cool. Park effects are important!

Proud father of Juan Carlos Perez. Think Albert Pujols at a position to be determined.

And give me less to do when I’m bored at work? Pfff.

Haha just kidding, by all means.

here it is folks

Of course this is in a vacuum, but look at where some of those homers are

Wow, I counted potentially 10 that may not go out in ATT

bring in the walls!!!!

by cazzuno on Aug 6, 2009 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions

so, uh, i’m guessing these aren’t to scale since our “309” is right on top of their “330” and our “399” is farther than their “400”.

by FPTV on Aug 6, 2009 4:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Ha, he would have maybe 4 HRs.

by scout6 on Aug 6, 2009 3:24 PM PDT up reply actions

right yeah. 4 homers instead of 13 at home

Again, this is all in a vacuum, but if a player is a FA and just saw things like these images or whatever, I’m sure he’d be picking the smaller ballpark

I think it might not be to scale. From the look of the diagram the CF wall in Philly is 380 feet, which doesn’t sound right.

are distances measured the distance straight from home to the wall, or is it the distance the ball has to travel to make it over the wall?

it does look strange that in the petco overlay, you see 369 at CBP, and 367 at Petco, yet the Petco wall is further out.

by jctGamer on Aug 6, 2009 4:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Indeed, I just looked at the original and noticed the same contradictions

by ryanmiles on Aug 6, 2009 4:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Size wise they look and seem accurate though. I am not sure what the measurements are, but size wise those can’t be that far off. Like, we know our outfield is big and has triples alley, which juts out past RCF at Citizens

where is the source of data? I’d like to take a look at it if possible. This sounds interesting enough for me to waste an hour.

by jctGamer on Aug 6, 2009 4:09 PM PDT reply actions

These are from mlb.com If you search for any player, you can click on his hit chart where it shows how he does in each stadium

I wish hittrackeronline.com included fly balls and extra base hits. They have very detailed information on home runs, but as far as I can tell not other hits.

Here are the park comparisons, according to that site:

As you said, it’s too bad they don’t have information other than home runs…

by ryanmiles on Aug 6, 2009 5:17 PM PDT up reply actions

I guess the difference in parks is much less drastic than we though, particularly to left center.
