Giants Rotation from here on out
Based on today's transaction and Lincecum's start being pushed back until Thursday. The Giants will have off days to play around with, so it change.
The great thing about it is that the Giants will throw their best three against the Rockies again. The other possible storyline is Penny seeking revenge on the Bums twice.

We end in San Diego? We’re fucked if the season comes down to those games.
Proud father of Juan Carlos Perez. Think Albert Pujols at a position to be determined.

yeah, a final series at Petco with the WC on the line is actually very frightening.

I want the pennant to be on the line. Still, we’d be fucked.
Utter frustration and futility.

The problem lies in how well we’ve played in Petco in recent history.

Ah, so it's based on SSS intangible irrationalities
I kid, well, sort of. But I do trust our team right now. I know I shouldn’t, but I do.

Obviously it’s mostly tongue-in-cheek, but seriously, fuck Petco and fuck Coors Field.

100% agree. Sept 19th in LA will be interesting if this schedule holds as well.
Penny could melt in LA.

Remember
No more Peavy, no Chris Young. They’re rotation is a shell of an inkling of a memory of its former self.

Yeah but the Padres are always able to reach deep into their orifice and find some way to beat the crap out of the Giants at Petco
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
PABLO SANDOVAL AM STEAL DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS.
If they didn’t have such deep orifices, this wouldn’t be a problem.

I agree completely

That rotation ends well if the Giants were to make the playoffs
Timmy could step right in to a Tuesday or Wednesday G1 start.

I also like the idea of Penny and Johnson out of the ‘pen in the playoffs. the more I think about it, the more excited i am about this team’s playoff chances.

Don’t count all your eggs in one basket before they cross the road. (That’s what you meant, right?)

this made me irl lol for some reason
giants. and playoffs. in the same sentence.
WE’RE IN THIS THING
So
We end the season with:
3 in Arizona
4 at home against the Cubs
3 at home against the D-Backs
3 in San Diego
Those are 13 very winnable games, if we lose more than 3 or 4 of those, it would be a major blow. On the other hand, if we completely sweep them away, the Rockies have a tad tougher end to their schedule…
I guess it just depends on how out of it the Cubs will be by that point, ‘cause if they’ve thrown in the towel and we have Lincecum, Cain, Zito and Penny going, that bodes really well.
71-59 - Giants Series Record: 23-13-5, 17-4 at home
Adopted Giant: Daryl "Dealio" Maday - Not reassigned after all. Still a mediocre AA pitcher.
This is getting exciting with all the scoreboard watching and rooting for the spoiler teams that will go on this month. Penny for sure will circle those 2 dates in which he faces the Dodgers, I cents some revenge.
Win the inning.
Rockies have a softer schedule overall but they are plummetting
On paper, Rockies have it easier with only 6 games against over-500 teams: 3 w/ Cards, 3 with LA Bums.
While Giants have 3 with Phils and 6 with Dodgers.
So the key will be subliminally implanting feeds of Renteria slamming; Whiteside throwing out runners; Tulo whiffing at critical times etc into minds and media around Denver. Momentum is on our side.
ALSO we get a day off right before both LA series, so the better bullpen arms (you know who they are) can be rested

Wouldn't that be 9 games?
We play them 3 more times too.

yep I kinda ignored the Rocky-Giants series in that list.
If our guys take that, all the math gets much better.

Question to the McCoven???
Do you think Penny’s 6 starts will be the make or break as to wheher we make the playoffs?
Depends on how he pitches.
I think we’ve seen this team enough all year to know that they rise and fall together. If they win or lose, the credit or blame will be spread around.
by MoreroidsforZito on Aug 31, 2009 8:46 PM PDT up reply actions
I’m not going to take it for granted Penny makes 6 starts. Putting aside off days, if he goes out there and gets lit up like he has been in Boston the last couple months he’s probably not going to make more than 2 or 3.
But yes, tied with 31 to go, 6 starts is 20% of your remaining schedule. That’s certainly significant.
My Bucardo is better than yours.
A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
Sorta
But considering what we have been getting out of the 5th spotin the rotation, if Penny can pitch well enough fo us to win half of his starts, then its a freakin bonanza.
Not using any off days?
Seems there are some opportunities to rejigger. In particular I’m looking at moving Lincecum and Zito up while facing the bums.
Yeah, I think that's where they may change it up
until then though, it fits nicely having the big 3 go against the Rockies.
Wow!
Isn’t nice to have a kid who has held opponents to the leagues lowest batting average since he threw a no hitter and have him not be considered one of the big three?
