Top Plays of the Giants Season so far

While watching Rentaria trot around the bases after his Grand Slam, I wondered where would it rank on the Giants plays this season. So, I give you the 10 plays, and YOU, get to vote on which ones you like the best. Top 5 will be revealed on Tuesday.

Star-divide

In no particular order:

Molina's jack

Garko's heroics (2 plays, one slot)

Uribe's walkoff against LA

Whitesides' grand slam

Shierholtz catch vs ATL

Sanchez's no-no

Rowand saves no-no

Vote for Pablo:

Wallk-off-Wild Pitch

Inside-the-park

Johnson 300 game winner

Ishikawa powers Giants on memorial day

Rentaria's First Grand Slam

Panda Walk Off vs Nats

Zito's Gem vs Rockies

Sandoval's Throw vs M's

Uribe's Bases Clearing Hit vs M's

Ishikawa Triple - Opening Day

And obviously the Rentaria Grand Slam today.

And you can remind me the ones that I missed because pre-Memorial Day, the Giants season was filled with road losses at San Diego and under .500 ball.

The bat flip made it particularly epic.

Rowand Catch

9th inning of Sanchez No No. Haven’t been that excited in a long time. Multiple fist pumps followed.

by armzdealr on Aug 30, 2009 6:32 PM PDT reply actions

It’s certainly in the top five. I’d add Rent’s second GS, Molina’s shot, Schierholtz inside the park and Uribe’s walk off

Why not have a poll?

Lincecum. Pretty much every 5th day.

That play where he knee slides across the diamond towards 1st, grabs the liner, throws the runner out. sadly I don’t remember the opponent. }:[

Thank you for including Garko's heroics

Overlooked by a lot of people on this board

I choose to watch the Giants try to score runs. Not because it is easy, but because it is hard.

by GiantPain on Aug 30, 2009 7:05 PM PDT reply actions

Pablo’s play in Seattle with the bases loaded and Ichiro at the plate. That over the top throw home for the third out was one of the most creative plays I’ve ever seen.

by tyrannoman on Aug 30, 2009 7:08 PM PDT reply actions

I was at that game

Amazing, amazing play in person. First time I really thought Panda could be an above-average defender.

Of course, in the scheme of things it doesn’t compare to Dirty’s no-no or Rent’s grand slam today.

probably dosen’t, but as a stand alone play it may have been in the top two or three I’ve ever seen.

Damn, we’ve had a lot of great moments this year. Thanks for reminding us.

THE HIT BY URIBE NEEDS TO BE REMEMBERED

I think you guys are forgetting the hit in Seattle by Juan Uribe clearing the bases, I believe. The Giants early on were struggling so mightily for that big hit and Uribe delievered it. I remember how many were considering that as the hit that got the Giants’ season going.
Let’s not forget about that one.

Not going to make this list

…but Ishikawa’s opening day bases clearing triple was pretty awesome also. Jon Miller went totally nuts!

Renteria scores! Lewis scores! Sandoval scores! THEY ALLLLL SCORE!!!! Ishikawa at 3rd with a two out triple.

by armzdealr on Aug 30, 2009 7:50 PM PDT reply actions

I don't think you can beat the Sanchez no hitter

I was at the game today and would rank Renteria’s grand slam a pretty close second. Both of them were so unexpected, which helped make them great.

by FluLikeSymptoms on Aug 30, 2009 8:36 PM PDT reply actions

what about the Pablo (at Rocks ?) play wear he grabbed a ground ball behind third base it was early in the season and awesome

I R 5

by say hey nation on Aug 30, 2009 8:41 PM PDT reply actions

My top 5

1. Renteria’s slam today
2. Dirty’s no-no
3. Rowand’s catch to save the no-no
4. Pablo walkoff vs. Nats
5. Vote for Pablo

What about Emmanuel Burriss’ diving stop-and-flip in Washington to save runs and preserve Randy Johnson’s 300th win? That was a sweet play.

I was just going to mention this

That was an incredible play

Also……….

At home against Oakland: Oakland had a runner on first and Cust hit it into triples alley and Shierholtz throws to Burriss cutting off and Burriss’s relay throw (absolute seed) home gunning the runner out

Technically speaking a no hitter isn’t a “play”, so I voted for the “Edgarand Slam”

How about the strikeout to end the no hitter?

- Molina Clobbered by sausages

Has to be Sanchez. No-hitters are remembered even in crappy seasons; obviously, we haven’t had a crappy season, but Rent’s GS was one swing, and Sanchez did a hell of a lot more than that.

It's hard NOT to vote for Uribe's walkoff

Since it was against the dodgers.

I choose to watch the Giants try to score runs. Not because it is easy, but because it is hard.

at least it was a moonshot, so we could all enjoy it as it arched into the bleachers.

Little OT, but did anyone see the play that same umpireing crew blew in Oakland the next series? Jebus, that is pathetic. I still want to see the review process for those umps, and how they are disiplined for such pathetic performences game after game.

I asked around the clubhouse, and learned about the Top Lays of the Giants' Season:

10. Zito’s Asian Buffet – (4/29) Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese ladies lead him to their hotel room near McCovey’s and proceed to shake out his arm for him.

9. Panda’s First White Chick – (5/12) Hits walk-off vs. Washington’s Joe Beimel and proceeds to nail Joe Beimel’s road beef.

8. Rowand Crashes Into Clea Duvall – (5/10) Exhausted after 13 innings, buzzed off PBR and goaded by Randy Winn, Rowand beds quirky-looking actress Clea Duvall, but the next day proclaims that he “three-holed” Claire Danes. Ah, beer goggles.

7. Poo-ribe – (4/17) After losing six in a row, Bengie Molina tries to rally the troops with a food-eating contest. The catch? Everything has to be blended. Fred Lewis manages to drink a can of spam. Uribe takes on the challenge of drinking a blender full of Frito Lays. What he didn’t know was that Molina had spiked the blended chips with a laxative.

6. Sergi-Ho – (7/18) Romo takes one for the team and beds the hideous (as Fred Lewis describes her, "She looked like Samuel L. Jackson, but with Fergie’s d***") Head of Room Service at the team’s Pittsburgh hotel, securing a night of free and unlimited alcohol delivered to their rooms.

5. Nate’s Date – (8/05) A French chick who spoke zero English and had eight hot friends who also spoke no English. They didn’t even like baseball.

4. Velez’s Virgin – (6/23) When Kevin Frandsen mass e-mails the team with a link to a girl auctioning her virginity to the highest bidder, everybody believes it’s a gimmick or a scam… until Eugenio Velez runs into her at the mall. What begins as an innocent encounter soon leads to another mass e-mail from Kevin Frandsen, an apology stating that the auction has ended before the original closing date.

3. Richie At Bat – (8/24) Molina’s aunt Dulcinea sends him a box of mystical herbs that can make anyone feel young again, if only for a few hours. Troubled by recent problems in the bedroom, Aurilia buys some of the herb from Bengie in preparation for his anniversary. Unfortunately, the herb works too well and Aurilia winds up on the DL, but the sounds from the trainers’ room won’t soon be forgotten.

2. Bowker? I Hardly Know Her – (7/12) Bowker and Schierholtz go on a double blind date set up by Rachel Aurilia. After Nate learns that his date doesn’t believe the theory of evolution, he leaves Bowker and his gal alone. According to Bowker, his date was an insatiable sex demon, who wanted nothing from him other than pleasure. After ten straight hours of bedding her, a delusional, exhausted, delighted, enraptured Bowker proposed to her, a profound mistake any rookie might make. But, in one of the most fortuitous bounces in baseball history, the woman turns him down and disappears forever.

1. Grand Slam – (8/29) In an effort to patch up their rocky marriage, Renteria’s wife gives him a 24-hour pass to have as many conquests as he wants. He is so excited by this offer that instead of finding new road beef, he goes back to women from his past. This walk down memory lane makes him feel like a kid again and, the next day, he hits a four-run homer against the Rockies.

Frandsen and Bowker sleep with undisclosed upper managements wife. Lewis lies about his knowledge of it and rides the pine with his meet.
