Update on unsigned 2009 1st round draft picks
MLBTR has posted a list of the remaining unsigned 2009 1st rounders. They have nothing useful to add on our negotiation status with Wheeler, beyond a glib statement that we need to sign him to replenish our SP depth.
It shouldn't surprise anybody the Boras reps many of these players, and that all of them are said to be not close to signing.
They also conclude that Tyler Matzek looks to be a no sign for the Rockies, as well as Matt Purke for the Rangers. I'm so glad that we were smart and didn't pick either of them.

long before Alderson was traded there was no chance that Wheeler wasn’t going to sign

All it really did was weaker the Giants’ bargaining power.
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...
yeah, now he’s not going to take it easy on the Giants like he was planning to last week!

The announcement on Wheeler wont’ be made until the 16th or 17th even if he’s already signed, because MLB won’t approve deals that are over slot (or significantly over slot) before then. Part of their whole slot petulance issue. Same thing with Joseph only 2nd rounders they approve and announce a few days earlier.
My Bucardo is better than yours.
A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
I guarantee that Wheeler has already signed

It was clear from Matzek’s interview after being drafted that he was not very interested in signing with the Rockies.

Can you blame him?
I wouldn’t want to be forced to pitch my first 6 seasons in Coors Field if I had other options.
