"We're in this thing!" (with poll)
I saw the new Giants' commercial yesterday and thought, "That's it!" The Giants have found a catch phrase that we can rally around like "Dustiny" or the Warriors' "We Believe" season. (I'm in marketing, so I dig this stuff.)
"We're in the this thing!" brilliantly captures the excitement of being in the post-season chase when pretty much no one was expecting it. It kind of reminds me of "Major League" when they show fans talking about the Indians and how they're not so bad after all. Along with the "I'm in" that they use in the ads, it's a perfect way to capture the groundswell of enthusiasm that's building up.
If they haven't done so, the Giants would be smart to make t-shirts that say "We're in this thing!" on the front and "I'm in!" on the back. I'd definitely buy one.
So after the 6-1 home, where is the McCoven's mindset? Everyone, take a look at my huge poll!

How's about an option for
“As much as I’d like them to do so, I’m not 100% convinced they’ll make the post season (though they stand a decent chance, it seems), but either way that’s not so important as my life is so empty I watch every game anyway”

If anyone has contact/pull with Giants marketing
This would be a good opportunity to go viral. In DC the Nationals had fans submit their favorite Nats memories and a select few brought in to excitedly relate them in their own commercial. Now that was lame, putting normal shlubs up their getting all apoplectic, made even lamer b/c the Nats have no great recent moments (one of the more excited spots was a guy talking about beating the Mets late in the season to knock them out of the playoffs…whoopie!) BUT the giants should give the faithful internet masses the ability to (a) make a “We’re/I’m in” video, (b) post it on their blog/facebook/MCC; © incorporate a select few in further TV spots. And why can’t I find the ad right now, I wanted to view it and I can’t, granted I’m not the target audience (already die hard) but free advertising is free advertising.

I am still fairly skeptical that the Giants will make the playoffs. They have a lot of good teams chasing them for that final spot, and the Giants are so flawed that I think it is going to be tough sledding.
That said, I told my wife last night that the Giants are close enough to a playoff spot that I am starting to get worked up about every single game. That is a feeling that I have not had in some time. It is nice to have games actually mean something at this time of the year. I had almost forgotten what it felt like.

Easy to hate?
They can be frustrating when they leave guys in scoring position and stuff, but they also seem like a bunch of pretty likable guys:
- If there’s a more fun and likable player in baseball than Panda, someone show him to me
- Lincecum is the perfect blend of awesome/goofy/cool
- Cain is morte stoic, but one has to admire how he never lost it when the team refused to provide him with run support
- We make fun of Rowand gamerness, but there’s no question he gives his all
- Randy Winn: Classy
- Molina has a bunch of flaws, but the man has heart and loves being a Giant
- I admire Zito. He’s honest and doesn’t hide when he’s sucked, and seems to keep it perspective when he does well
- Sanchez is going to be one of those guys we’re going to love the more we watch him. We’ll say “Yeah, singles and doubles is better than drawing a bunch of walks”
- The kids (Velez, Romo, Merkin, Miller, Medders Ishi, Juggernate & Lewis) all seem to have fun and are easy to root for
- The jury is still out on Wilson. I can see why some people think he’s a d*ck, but he can be kind of funny and doesn’t seem to think much of Ralph B.
- Uribe has been fun, his mohawk was hilarious and is a sentimental choice because of his uncle.
- Renteria is the one guy who I’d like to see more personaility/fire out of. Maybe Howry too.
- Affeldt sounds cool from whenn I’ve heard him interviewd.

Way In
This has been one of the most fun baseball seasons for me. I have been to some Giants, Rivercats (live in Sac) and A’s (Dad is a Tiger’s fan and Brother is an A’s fan) games. I’ve watched more Giants baseball on TV than I have in a long long time. I had a feeling when Travis and Pablo were raking in spring training that this would be a fun year. I tried to keep up on the news but there just wasn’t enough info about the Giants via the standard media outlets. I stumbled across the MCC when I did a Google search for Giants’ news. I have increased my baseball IQ by 1000% and gotten great Giants insight hanging with everyone here.
No one here gets out alive.
