Lincecum Velocity Down - Overreaction Thread
Ok i know i know no need to worry about Timmy. If the guy throws in the low eighties he might still be sporting a high 2.0 era. But it comes without saying that a 25 year old who has already pitched 177 IP in 2007, 227 in 2008 and already 197 IP in 2009 is mysteriously losing 3-5 mph off his pitches. I like that fact that his command is up (2.5BB/9) but is it time to start worrying as we are chasing down a Wild Card/NL West playoff spot?
God i hope everything is all good....

Meh.

Tim's fastball velocity

His average velocity looks to be down a click or two, but I’m not worried
Adopted brother of Jason Jarvis.
First off, it was ridiculously hot for a night in the city last night, and we all know that Tim tends to look less “Tim-like” in warm weather. That could have had something to do with it.
Also:

I have no evidence to support this, but perhaps he’s taking a few MPH off his pitches to better control them. Loss in velocity and better control can go hand in hand sometimes.
Worried, I am not.

i noticed he threw a few in the high 80's two nights ago.
that’s what worries me. if he’s consistently 92 or 93 i don’t mind. but he threw more than a few at 91 or less.

PANIC PANIC
Per Chris Haft:
Lincecum’s next start pushed back a day
SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants announced what appeared to be a wise move after Sunday’s 9-5 victory, disclosing that right-hander Tim Lincecum’s next start will be delayed by a day.
Lincecum thus will start in Philadelphia on Thursday, giving him five days’ rest — one more than usual. He threw a season-high 127 pitches during his eight shutout innings Friday against Colorado, compelling the Giants to allow him more recovery time.
