I kept seeing the mph on NBC’s broadcast and thought the gun had to be slow. He was blowing it by Tulo and Hawpe and it was only saying 95-97. Looked more like triple digits the way he was throwing the ball by them

And I’m not even ragging on them for their prissyness re: us pottymouths (at the moment).

But their game threads are like telegrams being sent to people who can’t get the game; it’s nothing but 4-word updates on each play repeated by twenty different people. Their rules say all posts must be about Rockies baseball unless a spring training game goes into a rain delay. They’re MANDATING their own blandness! WTF? I mean, to each their own, but when they attend a game, do they never have non-baseball-related conversations?

I fear I’m totally going to jinx things with what I’m about to say, but here goes…

Wilson has improved over the past couple months (or maybe he’s just on a good streak). There’s no more, “OH NOES, IT’S NOT A SAVE SITUATION!!” worries with him. He has pitched some very tough innings, in different types of situations and has been beyond solid. My perception also is that he’s throwing more strikes, and not getting himself into as many of the 3-2 counts that he seemed to always be getting into earlier in the season.

Why couldn't McCovey have hit the ball just three feet higher??

An open letter to Giants' pitchers

Dear Giants’ pitchers,
Stop pitching Todd Helton like he’s Barry Bonds, Albert Pujols and Babe Ruth all rolled up into one. He’s hit 4 homeruns on the road this year in 229 official at bats, and ATT is tougher for lefties than any other road park he plays in. He doesn’t swing at bad pitches, and the umps give him the benefit of the doubt on close pitches. Throw him strikes. Let him hit the ball four times and maybe he’ll hit two singles and two catchable balls. Nibbling when you’re pitching to him doesn’t work and jacks up your pitch count.
   Thank you,

Nate’s not really a good hitter so it’s not a shocker, though he’s better than Ishikawa (I don’t understand why he keeps getting starts over Garko, even against RHP), Winn, and Edgar.

by kingofthacove on Aug 29, 2009 3:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Well Ishikawa has been excellent at first base at least. He’s underrated as a position player, with only 3 errors and has a .995 fielding percentage. Granted, the number of games he’s started is low, but he has been working out well there.

Neither he nor Garko have good hitting numbers overall, but Ishikawa is batting great at home; .348.

Yeah Ishikawa is a good fielder, but Garko has much higher offensive upside and a lot of his struggle can be attributed to his .230 BABIP.

And I wouldn’t put much stock into Ishikawa’s home numbers.

Ishikawa is playing because Garko is the backup catcher right now. Oh and Lefties hit righties mirite

Nate really isn’t better than Ishikawa.Their OPS+s are even at 90. Nate has more power, but Travis walks more, so it balances out.

Rowand hit seventh last night. It’s just where Bochy is putting the guys who’ve been struggling.

Oh, he's not in a slump

He just sucks now and he’ll never be better, so there’s no need to bat him lower in the order to try and bust him out of it.

I choose to watch the Giants try to score runs. Not because it is easy, but because it is hard.

As long as Nate and Randy help him out, it should be ok.
