It’s a good thing that the Giants organization doesn’t overreact to one poor start by one of its young pitchers.

assuming you’re being sarcastic, KS, this seems more about getting the best use out of Martinez’s roster spot for the next four days.

And because Hinshaw’s numbers are awesome lately and the Rox have lots of lefties. Nice to have another guy to face them

not just the Rockies. They’re going to Philadelphia after this series, and they’ll have Utley, Howard, Ibanez, Stairs, etc. waiting for them.

I was being sarcastic; I understand the move from a roster perspective. Martinez wasn’t gonna play this weekend, anyway (unless he needed to pinch run! LOL!) Although pardon me if I won’t feel supremely confident watching Alex Hinshaw face the Rockies’ lineup in the late innings.

It is that Lefty, but not just that. The move necessitates a new 5th starter because Joey can’t come back before Sept. 7th and they’ll have to use a 5th starter Sept. 5. That said, I don’t think you could fairly call this one bad start. Joey’s had 2 very bad starts and 3 middling to poor ones prior to that.

Exactly. Joey has basically been fairly bad since being brought up. He has been given a chance to impress, and he has not done so.

Don’t get me wrong. I have no problems with the Giants letting a young kid that they believe in take their lumps at the big league level. Just not right now. The Giants are in the middle of a pennant race, and reliability and production are for more important than gaining experience for the next year.

That said, there isn’t any other candidate who’s going to give them reliable productivity either.

Wrong on Martinez

Normally you’d be right about the need for Martinez to stay down until the 7th, but with the free 40 man roster expansion that starts on Sept. 1st, Martinez can come back any time after then.

Not according to this. Which makes sense. The Sept. 1st roster expansion shouldn’t invalidate recall rules I wouldn’t think.

But, but, ...

Who’s Bochy going to put in to pinch run at the end of a tight game? Martinez was his man in a pinch.

If Sandoval is out there sprinting, then I’m more optimistic he’ll play tonight…

I figured Martinez would go down with the team shorthanded, well, pretty much everywhere. Frandsen as usual would have been a good fit now. But, yeah, hopefully the addition of a pitcher is a sign that Sandoval and/or Molina will be back soon.

Hinshaw: 21 K and 1 BB in 10.2 August innings? Wow.

Hinshaw is pretty awesome when he knows where the ball is going. Hopefully this is one of those periods where he’s locked in.

Waiting for Giants and Niners to contend once more.

I wonder if this is strictly a precursor to Sept. 1 or if it is a precursor to claiming Heilman.
