I don't think so
Interesting read on Nick Hagadone – like Barnes he was also treaded to the Indians in a trade deadline deal. But, there’s a huge error in the stats they’re quoting:
Hagadone’s ERA sits at 2.50 with 53 strikeouts and 19 innings.
If that were true, that means he would be averaging almost 3 Ks per inning, and have recorded all but 4 of his 57 outs (19 innings) as Ks. That’s just not true.
I just did a quick check – they had a typo. It should read “53 strikeouts in 39.2 innings.”

The Rays are said to be close to dealing Kazmir for a pair of Angels prospects; one of them, LHP Alex Torres who was mentioned on the hot sheet.
Also, I like several of the hitters in High Desert. Sure, the numbers are inflated, but I’ll be watching Peguero, Liddi, Dunigan, et. al. closely as they move up.

The Rays are still in it, so I’m surprised they’re trading Kazmir. He has health issues, but I would love to have him.
embarrassed father of over the hill Edgardo Renteria
same
Plus he’s still pretty young. It feels like he’s been around forever.
Torres has strikeout stuff, but he had problems with walks this year in the Cal League before he was moved up to AA. So I don’t know about this trade.

1. I think that those numbers are hugely inflated, but it will be interesting to follow them to see if I’m right.
2. I saw the same Kazmir article, and was initially shocked that the Rangers, BoSox and Tigers would not put in at least a blocking claim – knowing how much the Angels needed a starter. Then I looked at Kazmir’s contract – he’s owed $8M in ’10, $12M in ’11, and it would take $2.5M to buyout his $13.5M contract in ’13 – and I understood what would warn them off a waiver claim.

Good info.
Wow, I didn’t realize he had that kind of contract for the next 2/3 years. Not exactly cheap; he’d have to say a lot healthier and become more consistent for that to be worthwhile. Although I would love to see Kazmir in a Giants uniform, I’ve always liked him and thought he was going to be better than how it has turned out so far. And yeah, it feels like he’s been pitching for 5 years in the major leagues, at least. I think our attention spans have gotten really really short.
Think this impacts what they plan to do with Crawford? I think he would be a perfect left fielder for this team and was hoping Tampa would buy him out in the offseason. However with the savings from trading Kazmir that no longer seems pressing.

Good call
I saw an article in their local paper (St. Pete Times) that stated just that. They will use the $$$ saved by trading away Kazmir to keep their core group together – including Crawford. So we won’t have a shot at him unless he opts for FA at the end of 2010.

Though Neal turned 22 two weeks ago and is a bit old for the level
Uh, what?

He’s actually in the youngest 25% of the Cal League.
Well i’m sure they are refering to average prospect age rather than average player age so that makes a difference. It’s still pretty misleading though, he’s been 21 all year and that seems pretty much standard for a decent prospect in High A.

Interesting
Virgil Dahl (Waterloo, Iowa 50702): Thomas Neal..could he crack the l00, and where would you rank him on Friscos’ list at this point? many thanks
Conor Glassey: Neal’s having a great season – but my hunch is that he’ll probably end up on the outside, looking in.

Do you think Villalona will keep a spot in the back end of top-100 lists?

he shouldn't.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

I think he will
I think when a player starts out as a mega prospect he gets a lot of time and benefit of the doubt before losing his prospect status. If a guy starts out as a non-prospect (like Neal) it take a lot for him to get credit as a true prospect. Is that right? I don’t know
