Matt Murton on the waiver wire
Well, for those of you who want a litmus test for this front office's understanding of how to value hitters, here it is.

I’ve liked murton for a while. I highly doubt we get him, but it would be kind of cool.

Dont the Giants have enough outfielders in their late 20s that can’t get on base more than 35% of the time? Why not give someone younger a chance?

Platooning. Lewis, Schierholtz, Bowker, Ishikawa, and Velez are all vulnerable to lefties. Murton lights up lefties.

The problem is it’s hard to carry Lewis, Schierholtz, Bowker and Murton on the same roster as none can play CF. Of course that’s more of an issue going forward into next year when they’re all out of options.

We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. The purpose of getting Murton is to make a stronger run at the wild card this year.
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...

Of course, which is one of the reasons we should claim him if he gets to us. I’m skeptical that he’ll end up being available or that we’ll acquire him though.
Murton’s one of those strange players who seems to not be given as much of a shot as his numbers suggest he should.

Schierholtz is NOT vulnerable to lefties.
Insanity is just a state of mind.

You have not been watching have you. He is not in the line up often when lefties start. That means he vulnerable to them.

September callup
I think Murton would be great as a platoon player for September.
There’s a few different options for who he could replace on the 40-man.
He has to be a better option than Randy Winn against LHP, right?
