I've been released from the hospital
It turns out that the crushing chest pains I was feeling yesterday were a result of stress and not at all a sign of my congenitally defective aortic valve finally calling for the tab. Every single metric checks out great, not a sign of heart damage, and the many ER doctors and specialists who milled through my room yesterday had similar questions:
"Has anything stressful occurred in your life recently?"
"Did you see the Giants game last night?"
"Yeah, hoooooo boy." Except for the one who was a Cubs fan, and I had enough morphine in me to comfort him.

Congrats on it not being something worse. Try to relax!
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...
Trying, thank you! I was actually watching the game last night from my hospital bed, but I turned it off, knowing that I shouldn’t risk that ninth inning.

The Giants are nothing if not stress-inducing!

It was a heartbreaking loss …
now I duck rotten tomatoes from the peanut gallery. Stay healthy and good luck! And congrats on getting sprung from the hospital. Hope you didn’t have to eat too much of their food.
Still backing Notgardo, wheresoever he may wander. (Don't forget to wriiiite!)
Just one meal
Because I was a cardiac patient, I got the no-fat, no-cholesterol, no-sodium, no-flavor meal, despite the fact that I have a congenital heart defect and not heart disease. But I had been nil-by-mouth for fourteen hours, so it was good anyway. :)

The heart healthy diet
actually has fat, cholesterol, and sodium and is not too much different for the diet recommended for the average American. The problem with it is that most people are used to eating junk food so something reasonablly healthy shocks them.
On a side note if you were at Kaiser you have reason to complain because the frozen dinners they serve are nasty.

I’m pretty sure the headaches I’ve been having over the weekend were Giants related. I didn’t have one after last night.
I don't doubt it
My partner, though, is lording over me the fact that he suffered permanent nerve damage from the Lincecum-imagined-balk game over a year prior to me being hospitalized over the Adam-Eaton-OBP-King game.

Oh, man, how…?
And thank you for reminding me about all the stress from Monday night’s game. Yesterday I was feeling symptoms of an incipient panic attack for the first time since going to the hospital, too. :-(
Anyway, hope you can take a sudden vacation and that the Giants win every game the rest of the year.
No, really, I have updated my blog this year: http://skaldheim.livejournal.com/tag/baseball
Thanks! :)
We were in the bleachers and he got Bell’s Palsy from the rough crosswind. His face is about 75% of the way back. Though he’s very frugal, I now insist on great seats every time we go. Have to protect his face and all… right, right….
Proud member of the Adopt-a-Giant program (Aaron Rowand)
No, that’s a perfectly legitimate reason to upgrade!! Now I’m glad I haven’t had bleacher seats in years. I don’t know a ton about Bell’s Palsy, though one friend had an episode many years ago.

I feel your pain...really.
Dude, that was me two months ago. Seriously. I don’t have the defective valve, but I had the chest pains, shortness of breathing, and I thought I was having a heart attack.
Two days later, I find out my heart is fine, and it was “just” a panic attack. I’ve been dialing back my stress levels as much as possible ever since.
And, of course, while we might laugh about it now, sometimes those symptoms ARE a heart attack. Lost a friend of mine two days ago after a blood clot got into his heart. That’s not helping the stress levels any, but hanging out here is.

They did repeatedly tell me I did the right thing by going to the ER
…just need to ratchet down the stress level, like not working so hard or becoming a Yankees fan.
Well, one of those is impossible…
It’s been a stressful year for many, for many reasons.

Agreed.
This year, on the whole, has sucked like few others ever. I can’t wait to get it in the rear view mirror. Here’s hoping 2010 is much better for everyone!

My problem with trying to reduce my giants-caused stress
The only way I can think of to greatly reduce or eliminate by giants-induced stress it to try to completely distance myself from them, meaning watching less games but also making an effort to distance myself emotionally, so I’d also have to avoid reading game reports, watching highlights, etc (In that game against the dodgers when raphael furcal was called safe at first, I got home and watched that part, which csn was showing again. Even though I already knew the outcome of the inning, I still blew up when I saw the call and the two out hit.)
And if I successfully managed to distance myself that much, I’d be unable to instantly care again when something good happened, meaning if they did win the wild card or something, I really wouldn’t be able to celebrate wildly. I’d just be like, ok, cool, now I’ll go back to ignoring baseball news. And why subject myself to this if I’m not able to go crazy when/if they win it all? The only way for me to be deliriously happy when they do pull out a great win is to be completely angry and hurt when they blow one like sunday. As a fan, I’m either all in or all out.

There was a large increase in ER walk ins after the last Giants/Rockies game!
It may alter the data on ER walk ins based on the position of the moon. With walk-ins being highest during the full moon.
It was either a heart attack, and ulcer or a Dick Cheney shot gun through my TV Screen.
I chose the later, the TV was a lot less expensive than a typical trip to the hospital, even with private insurance.

Rub some dirt on it and get back in there!
But seriously, glad you’re alright!

I think I was the first to do that.
Glad you’re alright man, good luck keeping stress down with the upcoming month of the season. But always, always get checked out with chest pain. My grandma passed away after having a heart attack, and just about two years ago my mom suffered essentially a series of small heart attacks. She’s ok from it, but if she hadn’t gone in she would have suffered a major one, and probably would have passed away. I’ll always be safer than sorrier.
