Rohlinger back

Just got word Ryan Rohlinger is back with the Giants and on a plane to meet the team.  I wonder what they are going to use him for, third base, second base, or shortstop.  I would think they expect him to play otherwise I don't know if it makes sense not to wait the couple days until September 1st. I'll call Judy and get some kind of varification for you all. :)  People around here are excited because the Giants are in Milwaukee next weekend.

I see Sabean's rationale

Rohlinger broke the Fresno team record for most doubles in a season (37) last night, so Sabes now thinks he has nothing left to prove in AAA. With that reasoning, Bret Pill should be up as soon as he gets 7 more RBI to break the Conn. team record.

Well you have to consider the value from the defensive upgrade of Pablo to Rohlinger at third, the defensive difference between Garkawa to Pablo, and the offensive difference between Rohlinger and Garkawa before you could determine how good an idea it is. Now, would I rather we keep Pablo at 3B and bring in a real honest to god productive hitting 1B? Absolutely. But I’m assuming that won’t happen, so the above calculation is all we have to go forward with.

My Bucardo is better than yours.

Moving Pablo to first is something we stopped discussing around here once he proved he wasn’t godawful at third, but it should really be considered, especially since he has proven he has the bat to play first.

It’s occurred to me on numerous occasions that maybe Frandsen isn’t very good, especially after watching him (I saw him play SS for Fresno this year more than once – awkward is the word that comes to mind). Rohlinger isn’t great either, but he appears to be a superior defender, he’ll take the occasional walk, and his OPS at Fresno is 28 points higher than Frandsen’s. Even Matt Downs has better offensive numbers at AAA than Frandsen. None of these guys are worth more than a few minutes of contemplation, really.
