SAT ANALOGY QUESTION
Dusty Baker is to Russ Ortiz as Bruce Bochy is to Brandon Medders!
Just a quick fan post, but I wonder how many of you had the same thought that my brother and I shared when Bochy took the ball from Medders. Medders was pitching ok, not great but decently. He had a long delay after Fowler took one off his shin, and several minutes went by before Fowler stood back in there with a 3-2 count, and probably hurting. I think in a different scenario he would have been taken out of the game. Then Medders throws a strike, except the ump called time. Medders comes back with a ball, and now Fowler is on first. (At that point I might have taken Medders out myself) Then Barmes comes up, and Medders seemed to have lost control going 3-0, but Medders refinds his stuff and gets Barmes with 3 nice pitches. So I think he has recovered, he still looks good, let him finish the game. One out, one on, 3 run lead. Then Bochy comes out and takes the ball from him, giving the ball to Miller. Miller has been good this year but has not looked good in his last few outings. Valdez is also in the pen, but also has not looked that sharp lately. Miller comes in a walks 2 guys, including the pitcher who was forced to hit, walking in the second run of the game. Both Rockies runs at that time were beneficiary gift runs of the free pass. Being Miller can't throw a strike he brings in Merkin, reminding me even more of our own FRod of the 2002 series. Anyway, back to the thought my brother and I shared. We looked at each other when Bochy took the ball from Medders and simultaneously said, " this eerily feels like Dusty taking the Ball from Russ Ortiz against the Angels in the World Series." My guess is that most of the McCoven had the same eerie thought. I also wondered if Sanchez or Cain could have been available to close out the game. I would bet in a similar situation Alvin Dark would have gone to Juan Marichal. Just a guess. Maybe this giants team should not make the playoffs. Maybe they should learn from all this and make their push next year. It wasn't just hindsite, we saw it coming as he took the ball from Medders and Medders Adam's apple dropped another 6 inches down his neck.

Medders was clearly done, according to Flem. I suppose shit happens.
I am El Person and I ¢¾ this message.
What game was Flem watching?
MIller and Valdez have been done for the last week to ten days.
Valdez has been done since Opening Day. I like Flem (although things went south this series whenever he came over to do TV) but how would he possibly know that Medders was done?

It was a reasonable call as Medders was struggling (as he said himself) and we should have been able to win regardless. Also, it’s a no-win situation, if Bochy leaves him in and we lose i’m sure you (or someone else) will write a fanpost about how he shouldn’t have left him in as he was clearly gassed.
Proud parent of Waldis Joaquin!
Miller and Valdez are total chokesters with inherited runners.
I would have stuck with Medders. However, that means that I would have used Miller to start the inning.
Reasonable decision to make given the circumstances

More Eerie facts about this loss.
In 1993 the Rockies could not beat the Braves at all. Lost every game. I think that year they played the Braves 13 times. That alone cost the giants the Pennant. That started brewing a dislike for the Braves and their Tomahawk chop, and the Rockes for laying down. Then in 2002 World series, Dusty takes the ball from Russ Ortiz and we all know what happenned in that game. Bochy took the ball from Medders and we all know who finished the game. 97 MPH, flat throwing Merkin Valdez, by the way whom the giants obtained in a trade with the Braves. Wasn’t Russ Ortiz part of that trade? We also got that Australian kid, who was miserable for one year.
1993 Giants lost 8 straight September 07-15.
They choked early but all people remember now was their winning 11 out of 13 before the LA finale.
get another closer next year and make Wilson the 5th starter.
He seems strong enough to be a starter now that he has a slider and a cutter to go
along with his 98+ mph stuff. Valdez last night unfortunately got to throw a non-humidored ball.
We might as well throw the season by starting Valdez

Starting Valdez would make more sense.
Somebody teach him the split-finger and a decent change-up.
You get more time to find the strike zone as a starter. You don’t need to be zeroed in within 2 pitches.
For some reason I keep reading this as “SCAT ANALOGY QUESTION.”
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.
Medders was done
There is no way he should have stayed in. If Miller or Valdez had done anything we would have been fine.

Medders may have been done, but he was less done then the two guys who replaced him.
Not only that, but if he could have gotten two outs, the second of which would have been the pitcher, crappola Miller and Valdez would be more fresh for today on their home field.
Didnt we start Valdez last year in the rain.
He pitched one inning, got the bums out, and then Lincecum took over.
i would have taken medders out
big head botch made a good move, but what she should have actually done was bring in sanchez
