Jeremy Affeldt was great against Colorado last night

It was great that Affeldt got Helton to hit into that 7th inning doubleplay.  Kept the win for both the Giants & Sanchez.  But the Giants better start driving in runners in scoring position.  If not, they can forget about winning the 2009 World Series. As usual, Brian Wilson created too much unnecessary drama but at least he didn't blow the game.  Rowland did great--especially that line drive home run.  Freddy Lewis seems really stupid at about all times--missing fly balls, baserunning mistakes and then last night his failure to run to 1st on strike 3 that got by the Rockies catcher.  Anyway, maybe Joe Martinez can extend some magic tonight

First off, welcome to McCovey Chronicles!

This appears to be your first post or comment of any sort, so welcome to the blog.

Just as a matter of course, in the future, a post like this could probably work fine as simply a comment to the Post-Game Thread. Fanposts are usually reserved for discussion topics that either aren’t covered in Grant’s main posts or for discussion of breaking news or similar.

I’m not saying this to be rude, but just because Fanposts like this often get a bit of a dogpile-y reaction and it’s never a good thing to have a new poster to the site get scared off before he or she even starts really participating.

Don't get bent out of shape, dude

The fanpost read more like a general reaction to the game than being specifically about Affeldt. I’m just giving you some friendly advice, I don’t think that warrants accusations of being a Dodgers fan.

All right, if you’re going to choose to take this all the wrong way, then feel free.

That’s the worst thing you could ever call someone here. It could even warrant a banning.

I once considered, like, getting contacts for one eye and wearing a monocle in the other.

That would be classy.

Utter frustration and futility.

I wonder if anyone’s ever considered wearing two monocles. Either one over each eye, or one on top of the other, Dr. Gene Scott-style.

The effort involved in carting around a giant chalkboard covered in intricately incomprehensible scribblings would make that impractical.

Utter frustration and futility.

I've always wondered

Why people who have one glass eye and need glasses don’t just put on a monocle. That would be awesome.

I just realized

monocles must be just a primitive form of bifocals. You wouldn’t use a monocle if you were nearsighted in both eyes… you use one becaue like 100% of humanity, your lenses freeze up at around age 50, and you cannot refocus. So you just need the monocle for close-in work.

SOMEONE PUT THIS IN WIKIPEDIA SO I WILL BE RIGHT.

Since you’re a mod, the comment was completely a propos; and given the vacuity of the post, despite its we’re-all-together enthusiasm, I thought it was extremely tactful.

Fun note from Baggs
Jeremy Affeldt is up to 16 double plays. Friday night’s grounder might have been the biggest of the bunch. He got Todd Helton to bounce back to the mound with the bases loaded — "overwhelmed with joy" was how he described his thoughts — and he wasn’t distracted by Cherubim and Seraphim as he threw to the plate to start a 1-2-3 double play.

Note to Brian Wilson: That’s how it’s done.

Freddy Lewis seems really stupid at about all times

There’s been a lot of discussion about Lewis recently, but in summary: he gets on base more than any Giant except Panda, and is one of the Giant’s best hitters by many measures, he makes a lot of errors in left field, but also gets to a lot of balls that other left fielders wouldn’t. Overall, I’d say he’s slightly better than average, and substantially better than Velez.

Also, I agree: Affeldt is awesome.
