I believe Dethklok said it best...

Ticket is your life
Ended by a knife
Called the murder train
Eternity of pain

Rafael Rodriguez: #8 on our list, tearing up Scottsdale, and has been alive long enough to see the Warriors make the playoffs once.

I understand they’re playing off the massive overreaction out of New York, but murder is going a little far with the joke.

fun police is fun

Wait..I mean not fun.

Billy Ripken is not a fuck face

I don’t have a problem with the joke, but I could see how something like that could rub some people the wrong way.

Yeah, but the Onion’s not exactly trying to not offend anybody.

I think it’s a lot more tame of a joke than you do, too. I really don’t see what the trouble could be. Yes, murder = bad. But this also = obvious satire.

Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

…It’s not like he actually got murdered

The Giants seem to be a disproportionate target for the Onion in the last few years. Dead Sandoval, bald Lincecum, Zito’s one-hit bullpen session, Randy Johnson’s borrowed back, and the team Banding Together To Score A Run (which is even less funny today than it was yesterday). There was also an American Voices years ago where all the last names were obscure GIants (Lemaster, Sadek, etc.)

I'm not surprised

the Onion used to have a San Francisco Edition

I don’t really see this as a joke at the Giants’ expense, though. In fact, I’d say that if they’re taking any side at all, it would be ours.

Much of the actual targetting is also deserved. Zito has been bad. Johnson does have a bad back. We do have trouble scoring. I don’t know what that Lincecum one’s about.

Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

They must have a writer who’s a Giants fan.

I wish I had a screenshot, but a few years ago, every one of the people in the “What Are They Saying?” feature had a name like Aldrete or Manwaring. It was awesome.

Not exactly funny

but successfully satirizes

1. Met’s fans bloodlust, and
2. the ridiculousness of the “unwritten rules.”

I have also noted the seemingly disproportionate frequency with which Giants players are featured in Onion sports pieces. Are we really so much more rife with comic possibilities than other teams?
