Apparently Wright has suffered a concussion and will remain hospitalized another day. I hope he recovers quickly and this has no lasting effects. Anything like this is bad for all of baseball.

That was an obvious accident, yet the Mets felt the need to retaliate not once, but twice. I hope Wright’s ok, but fuck the Mets.

I mentioned this on another thread. Giants fans in 1993 booed Trevor Hoffman for awhile when he hit Robby Thompson on the head. Hoffman (this was a very young Hoffman with the Marlins) didn’t do that on purpose but fans resented him for it.

You can know it was an accident, and that the pitcher didn’t mean it, and still be pissed off at the guy’s ineptitude, carelessness, or whatever you think might have caused the accident.

I would have booed him if the situations were reversed. You can’t ever really know what motivates a person and t’s not like the concussion will be less severe because it was accidental.

Wright gets style points for his Favre-ian attempt to shake it off.

FOX really didn’t need to show the ambulance caravan like it was a presidential motorcade. A guy like David Wright doesn’t need the pity card.

Special Surgery?
David Wright has suffered a concussion, and will remained hospitalized overnight at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

Does he have a fractured skull or something?

the capitalized Special Surgery probably gives it away, but anyway its gotta scare the shit outta Mets fans

The Mets seem truly Snakebitten

Santana better watch out. He’s their last big guy. I guess KRod too.

Get better Mr. Wright. I hope this is the consussion that passes easily and not a longer effecting one, or a Mike Matheny type disaster. But no need to rush back!

by kennv on Aug 15, 2009 10:47 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Get better David. I suppose if Santana had wanted to hit Pablo, he would have thrown it into his ribcage. He threw it enough behind to make the point and he probably realized Pablo is pretty nimble for a large fellow – anyway – Pablo made him pay and hitting Molina looked like an accident – and Molina made him pay. Had they not been thrown at we probably lose the game, cause I think it fired them both up to go long ball.

by APGiantsFan on Aug 15, 2009 11:18 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I thought he was throwing at Pablo on purpose and hit Molina by accident.

They were both done on purpose in my opinion. He missed Sandoval and Sandoval made him even angrier by hitting a homerun. He was going to hit somebody before he was through.

That was my read on it as well.

Shame on Blue for not tossing him the second time. Praise on Manuel for doing the smart and right thing there. It would have been easy to get sucked into a Pissing contest and he didn’t. He saw his starter was not focused on the task of winning the game and rather than keep giving the Giants chances to score he went to the ’Pen. I even kind of think Manuel knew the Wright thing was a mistake and now that his players had made thier point he put the brakes on things before they got out of hand.

That’s it! Katie bar the door for this 79 win team is star crossed! And I am loving it.

Jerry Manuel is about the only thing I like about the Mets. He’s funny and honest, even to the point of angering his bosses. He also said after the game that there was no way that was intentional.

as I mentioned in the gameday thread, the timing is bad for us. Their next road trip they play the Marlins, Cubs and Rockies. I doubt those teams have the trouble with the stiffs the Mets will put on the field like we have.

I hope he gets better soon. I had literally just tuned into the game only to see him get nailed. It was awful, Matty felt bad too. :(

Wright is lucky he moved at the last second too or he might have been another Tony Conigliaro.

Mets fans are really pissed at Cain (at least, they are over at Amazin’ Avenue). Never thought I’d see anyone other than Dodger fans refer to Cain as a douche.

Anyway, I really hope Wright gets better soon.
