Post-Game Recap: Giants Shock the World
Middle finger list:
Francisco Rodriguez
Luis Castillo
Francisco Rodriguez again, just to be sure
Johan Santana
Jeremy Affeldt's new walk-the-only-hitter-he-faces fetish
That old Matt Cain juju, poking us all in the eye
Thumbs up list:
Pablo Sandoval
Bengie Molina
Brian Wilson
David Wright's health, I hope
Pablo Sandoval again, just to be sure
Hell, all of them again, just to be sure
After the Mets tied the game, I gave the Giants about 2% chance of winning. Basically the same odds as putting a chip on "00" when playing roulette. Whooop!

So much to love
about the video. The shoe. The hang time. The flailing legs. The way he tries to hang on to Velez like he has no idea how far he is from the ground. The fact that his teammates clearly played the “hey, let’s shave off all our pubes and glue them to Russell’s face like a beard”. Also the fact, Russell Martin Sucks It.

It seemed like everytime someone brushed back Aurilia, he hit the ball hard (either for a homer or double).

yeah Grace saying that Cain tipping his hat to the mets fans was like saying he didn’t care what happened with wright was BS. Cain was just telling the mets fans that he just dominated their team

He really shouldn’t have done that, though. Looks bad.

They shouldn’t have been booing him either, but I’m not saying that to excuse him from doing it.
And it’s 100x better than if he had thrown at another batter, but I’m also not saying that to excuse him from doing it.
He shouldn’t have, absolutely. It was uncalled for. It was probably the least consequential uncalled for thing he could have done, though.

I was at this game, and the stands- especially behind the Giants’ dugout and down the third base line- were rife with the orange and black. We drowned out the Mets’ fans on a regular basis. Cain was getting a pretty loud cheer from us when he tipped his cap.

Those two should not do a game together. I don’t mind (can handle) them singularly. But they really seem to excel at highlighting the weak points in each other’s style of calling a game. Last day being home until november, and the giants get a win, AWESOME! Sadly i probably won’t be able to listen to the game tomorrow since my friend wont want to in my car down to Fresno then to vegas
If you are going to Vegas you are probably going to have far more fun than anyone watching Giants games is.
Well, dinner in Denver with the bonus of not having to watch Calvinball at Coors Field is still pretty good. Lots of good places to eat downtown here.
Sweet, well i’m looking forward to being there, that city is awesome, i’ll be by myself, and i think it’s kinda weird to go out to dinner by yourself
I detest the mets for lots of reasons
Our playoff appearance against them; their defeat of the Red Sox in the 1986 WS; and their dickish approach to the Giants ever since that playoff series. ALWAYS glad to see them lose. (Naturally, I hope Wright is fine and recovers quickly.)
Forsan et haec olim meminisse iuvabit... Maybe.
As much as I was angry at Wilson for blowing the save
I was still secretly hoping he’d go out there to pitch the 10th when Molina hit that HR, and that strike out on Castillo was just nasty. Good job Wilson.
Fox sucks
Because of their dumb blackout rules, I can’t even watch Marlins-Rockies because it started at 3PM PT and it’s in the window of the blackout.
Thumbs down: Bochy's handling of the bullpen
bringing in Wilson with one out in the eigth has backfired twice in a week now, and we likely are short handed tomorrow now thanks to the move. I understand Affeldt has had some control issues lately, but Aaron Rowand has sucked all year long and you don’t see Bochy pulling him mid at bat (though I would support such a move).
yes, I understand
it’s just frustrating to watch this team play. Cain and Lincecum just get let down all the time.
considering how Pablo and Bengie reacted to getting hit or almost hit with homeruns, here’s my list of Giants’ players I would like plunked tomorrow. Rowand, Renteria, and Wynn. Thank you.

I've never been happier to have Crabs
Given everything that has happened, does Bochy pull Jeremy the next time he walks the first hitter he faces?
I can’t understand how a pitcher who has led all relievers in getting DP grounders this year is pulled when he’s in a DP situation. If he had a penchant for long balls it would be one thing, but he doesn’t.
embarrassed father of over the hill Edgardo Renteria
Good point.
Also, he’s struggled with walks all year. Some of his biggest DP’s have come after he walked a guy to make a bad situation worse. that doesn’t mean the walks don’t bother me, but he’s earned the chance to overcome them.

This would obviously not be the first option for CF,but if he can play capably out there, it should be considered, especially if Rowand and Winn continue their struggles. Winn/Rowand would be a great 4th outfielder. I don’t know whether I’d rather have him in CF or RF for his arm.

Can anyone get the splits on the number of walks Affeldt has issued to LH hitters vs. RH? Mets’ fans need to stop being so stupid. The only pitcher in this game who was throwing at hitters was Johan Santana. And knowing Johan Santana, who has used the old Armando “I did my job” excuse this season, he was only throwing at the Giants’ because he was frustrated about the fact that he was about to get tagged with a loss.

Some guy on the radio said Cain tipped his cap to a group of Giants fans giving him a standing O near the dugout. Didn’t see that on TV, but I’m biased. If true, then suck it…if not, it was a douche move.
There were three or four Giants fans behind the Giants’ dugout, standing and applauding as Cain left. It’s possible that’s who Cain was tipping his hat to, but it wasn’t clear.
No, really, I have updated my blog this year: http://skaldheim.livejournal.com/tag/baseball
And Bengie doesn’t madly pump his fist toward the crowd after his big HR’s, but he did today. It may have been they were especially vocal, and in their sight-line.
That being said, I thought he was taunting the fans at the time. And if that’s the case, it was probably a bad idea.

Well, think about it this way – if you’re at least a half decent guy, and I think Cain probably is, it has to be an absolutely terrible feeling to make a simple mistake and see it fuck someone up that bad. Cain was clearly upset about it, and he never shows any emotions. And then he had to take booes for the rest of the game, and see the opposing pitcher throw directly at his teammates, in what looked like clear retaliation. So coming out of he game, after a rough inning that looked liked it might cost the Giants the win, it had to feel great to see a group of loyal fans, surrounded by booing Mets fans, standing and applauding. Maybe even better than having all of AT&T give you a standing ovation.
Or something like that.

:-) :-) :-)
Not that anyone wants to watch the replay, but Cain looks up immediately after the ball struck Wright’s helmet—as in “Oh shit, what have I done?” Very clearly not intentional.
Yeah, he dropped to a squat about halfway between the mound and plate and didn’t take his eyes off Wright. He looked like he was praying. He also looked like he wanted to be in the group of people at the plate making sure Wright would live, if it weren’t for those pesky Unwritten Rules™.

I can confirm
The Giants had quite a contingent there. The biggest group (where I was) was up the third base line, but there were maybe a couple of dozen Giants fans directly behind the dugout. We gave a standing O in retaliation for all the boos coming down on him.
I can’t say who Cain was tipping his hat to, but there were definitely a lot of Giant fans there in that section. I’m not sure any Mets fans in the area I was at even saw a hat tip; they didn’t react to it.

Think about the giants when they have the bridge shut down during labor day, and if the BART strike is still on
But i guess there are some almost agreeing with what they’re doing, what is it? Pay and health benefits?
The average train operator with benefits make over $100,000. The other two BART workers unions passed the contract offer.
No, everyone BUT the ATU (train operators/station agents) voted to accept the new contract in large numbers. ATU turned it down by a slim majority.
Now, the ATU folks are probably the least popular people in the BART system, due to a reputation for being unfriendly and unhelpful to their patrons. Add this to the horrible local economy and the vast pain a BART strike will inflict on everyone else, and the result is very nearly zero support for the ATU. If BART management stands its ground to any agree, ATU is going to get spanked.
No, really, I have updated my blog this year: http://skaldheim.livejournal.com/tag/baseball
My school district
has given teachers a 3% raise for the last four years (total). Meanwhile, the amount we pay for benefits has steadily increased over those same four years. This amounts to a pay cut for us.
We contemplated a strike last year. But ultimately didn’t.
Striking now is a really ballsy thing to do…

Wasn’t it a New York newspaper that had a political cartoon with Obama as a monkey or something like that?
Friends from New York got pissed at Obama and said he’s a dick for flying planes so close and low in New York city
I moved to New York yeas after 9-11, a date that did not affect me on a very personal level – the tragedy was too distant for me to really get a hold of. ON the other hand, just talking with some people that lived here at the time and wow. They can think back to 9-12 and the rest of 2001 and 2002 and you can see the emotions race trhough them as they relive that time in their mind. So flying those planes down the Hudson at such a low altitude and with such big planes? That was a stupid move. I was pretty pissed. But Obama had nothing to do with it. Just some over zealous low level staffers and photographers looking for a good shot.

yea i see what you’re saying, i mean living here in San Francisco, obviously we wouldn’t think too much of it, but if you’re in New York it’s alot different
It didn’t intend to show him as a monkey, people will take what they will out of anything.
Insanity is just a state of mind.
I forget the incident that caused that cartoon, but the Post claimed it was showing that Obama’s plan was so stupid it was obviously thought up by a monkey. It was also around the time that a pet monkey had attacked a woman. Whatever their intent, anyone who would depict a black man as a monkey in this day and age is clearly not thinking. Someone should have caught that.
embarrassed father of over the hill Edgardo Renteria
I remember them spinning it off of the monkey incident, and they said it referred to the saying about monkeys in a room with typewriters… I’m going to guess they didn’t intend it to mean what everyone thinks it means.
And not that it excuses anything, but there’s this.
Insanity is just a state of mind.
I get this kinda shit all the time when going to school in Ohio, i say i’m from California and people assume i’m GAY and they are not joking when they say it either. It’s pretty bad out there, especially people from New York, they are like that all the time, at least the ones i know, and they non stop bitch about everything, especially the fact that they call me a few terrible names which reallllly pisses me off, sometimes they’re joking with me, but other people around campus say that kinda shit, like “Oh since you’re from San Francisco you’re a fag” and i look at them and just say “Typical Farmboy” or just think about how closedminded these people are
Dude, everyone out there is so closedminded they don’t care, it’s sad, plus the guys from New York just like to argue and start shit
I would go with Mr. Merope to NKU where he was taking classes, and being from California I’m used to talking to everybody… Not there, you’d say “Hello” to someone who was not white, and they looked at you like you had the plague or something.
Yep! Here in California, everyone talks to everyone, all you gotta do is hop on BART and people are asking eachother questions, talking about the game or what not, and just having fun

I was the one down and to your left, with the wild dark hair and black pinstriped jersey w the 80s curved writing “Giants” on the back. The “HO-MOS” guy seemed to take particular exception to me. Maybe because I wasn’t quite sitting with that mob of Giants fans.

This bring up a good point.
What the hell happened to the Mets’ fans? The passion just isn’t there, let alone butts in the seats. Is it all the injuries? The sense that the season is lost?
I personally suspect the true, loud NY-to-the-bone fans (the ones who go HOO! between every “Let’s Go Mets!”) were priced out by the new shrine to the Dodgers that the Mets’ owners call Citi Field. I know a LOT of Mets fans that are unhappy, or at least confused, by all the Dodgers hagiography going on in Flushing.

When the MIami Heat retired Alonzo Mourning’s #33, it was the third number they retired. It also happened to be the first for any player who actually played for them.
The other two retired numbers? Michael Jordan (#23, not #45)…and, a guy who doesn’t even play the same damned sport, Dan Marino.

The Giants were 2-0 in games I went to at Shea, though. And Barry hit two home runs in one of those games. So did Tsuyoshi Shinjo, but this was when he was a Met.

I don’t remember the exact date of the other, but it was during the 2001 season and also a crazy home run fest. Bonds hit two as I recall.

I’ve lived in Alabama all my life. As you can imagine, I’ve heard more than a few unflattering and wholly unfounded stereotypes.
I’ve always found it somewhat disheartening that the closed-mindedness the other 49 states accuse of us is less a reflection on us and more on their outdated notions of life and culture in the South. It gets very frustrating at times.
It really bothered me how many people over there demanded that the Mets should retaliate, wanting balls thrown at the head of either Cain or Sandoval. Do people not realize how dangerous that is? It’s bad enough what happened to Wright – why would anybody want to add to that? Craziness.

Fun and Tough Game as a Giants fan at Citi...
I gotta say, Mets fans heckling out here are pretty weak…really really weak.
One guy, as we walked to the subway after last night’s game, started saying the Giants’ sucked right down to their uniforms. I yelled back that the Mets were wearing old NY Giants uniforms, and he got all confused, crosseyed and everything.
Then there was the guy I noted above chanting “Homos” and I yelled back “This coming from a guy from Queens!”
And, of course, “Don’t Hit Pandas; Pandas Hit Back!”
And that’s ignoring the fans who’d walk by us yelling about Wright getting hit in the head and it not being fair Molina only got hit in the elbow. They didn’t deserve responses.
I haven’t even had to break out the ‘Replace-Mets’ line yet.

As I said somewhere else on here, I was at the Armando-Benitez-finally-finds-out-how-to-get-fired game. Near the beginning of the game, Timmeh K’d Oliver Perez so dominatingly that OP fell down. I started loudly laughing, and an already drunk fat dude in a overworked orange wifebeater says, “Hey, toothpick! Quit wit’ da laughin’ before I take dis bottle ta ya face!”
And he brandishes an empty bottle-shaped aluminum can at me.
I was not intimidated.
But my girlfriend, not the biggest sports fan or most aggro person by any stretch, turns to him and says, “You better shut your mouth before you get beat up by a girl in a hot pink miniskirt!” His buddies quoted that at him the rest of the game, and probably still do. Lulz.

Of all the possible mix ups, this is one of the worst. I mean, if you want to make a mistake like this and still keep a shred of credibility, here are some things you need to make sure:
- The countries need to be close to each other. They don’t share a border? Fine, I guess. But this? You’d have to go through 3 different countries in order to walk from Egypt to Iraq. And for the love of God, please make sure next time that they’re on the same freaking continent!
- It would really helpful if the countries sounded alike. Iraq/Iran could work. Two countries that end with “stan” is borderline. Egypt and Iraq? They don’t even have one letter in common.
- And if you can’t do the first two – this trick should help: just choose two countries no one in the US cares about. Confuse Jordan and Syria, no one will notice. Put Yemen next to Turky, who cares? But don’t forget the country you’ve been at war with for the past 6 years.

I know this was being discussed when Cain left the game, but in case anyone missed it, here’s Baggs take on the situation:
Cain tipped his cap as he came off the mound, which I’m sure the Mets fans didn’t appreciate. What they couldn’t have known is that the small contingent above the Giants dugout that stood and cheered him weren’t just any group of out-of-town Giants fans. They were the minority owners of the club, along with their families. Bill Neukom, Larry Baer and many of the investors accompanied the team to New York for the series. After Friday night’s loss, they were glad to have something to cheer — finally.
I’d tip my cap to the people who sign my checks, too.
Well, there you have it. Betcha it doesn’t mollify the Flushing Faithful, though.

Either pay up
Or call the bluff and let Strasburg sit out. If they are commited to winning, they should pay Strasburg.
Chris Dominguez: Bringing dingerz back to The Bay (In a while)
They’ve made him a “record-breaking contract.” If they’re committed to winning, they shouldn’t blow the budget on a guy who’ll appear every fifth day.

Why bother drafting him then?

Worst case, they get the #2 pick next year in compensation.
No, really, I have updated my blog this year: http://skaldheim.livejournal.com/tag/baseball
Screw it, they aren't going anywhere.
Set the franchise on fire. Just keep drafting Boras clients and lowballing him, and force the kids to sit out their whole careers. i’d sacrifice the Nationals to stop Boras.

the funny part is
they took the closer out of stanford with their 10th pick to save money for their Strasburg pick. That’s going to suck if all they end up with is a damn closer.
But he’s going to be the best player in the history of the game how can they not sign him i don’t believe this that’s so stupid!
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

The reason this is funny
Is that the Nationals could have taken Crow or Matzek with their second pick, but went cheap and took Storen in order to save money for Strasburg. So now they have no Strasburg, and a closer for a #10 pick.
HA HA HA LOOK AT ME I'M ALL HAPPY AND STUFF NO REALLY CAN WE STOP WITH THE COOKYMAN IS SAD JOKES?
:-) :-) :-)
Well, they couldn’t have taken Crow because he didn’t give his permission to be drafted again. And they were planning on being able to sign Strasburg at the time, so taking him and then Matzek (who is asking for a gigantic bonus himself) would have been even more risky – at least they’ve ended up with somebody with Storen.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
PABLO SANDOVAL AM STEAL DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS.
Well, no. If they had the money to offer Strasburg record breaking money, plus sign Storen, then surly they had enough money to just sign Matzek. I’m not saying it’s what they should have done at the time, I just think it’s funny – the only reason they didn’t take Matzek is that they had already taken Strasburg, and now they’re stuck with neither.
HA HA HA LOOK AT ME I'M ALL HAPPY AND STUFF NO REALLY CAN WE STOP WITH THE COOKYMAN IS SAD JOKES?
:-) :-) :-)
Kasten wouldn’t reveal the exact amount of Washington’s offer nor would he say what, if any, counteroffer Boras had made. But Kasten characterized Boras’ approach as “advocating a new methodology for evaluating draft picks” — changing the way a draft pick’s worth is determined.
“This kid is so impressive. We have nothing but the highest regard for him. If he wants to come and begin his career right now — and do so with the largest contract ever given to any drafted player in the history of Major League Baseball — we can help him accomplish that,” Kasten told the AP. “But if this is more about changing the whole way an industry does business, then we won’t be able to reach a deal.”
As was said before, screw Boras. It’s time for baseball and the player’s union to put some real control on this situation.

I apologize if this offends anybody
But I remember at the press conference following Nick Adenhart’s death, when Scott Boras started sobbing, I was seriously wondering if he was faking it to try to make it look like he cares more about his clients. I know that’s harsh, but he does have a reputation

We know how he plays in real games right? I’ve still holding my judgment on Alex until the season starts obviously, and i’m rooting for him and Hill, but at least we do have the better team here
Just watching him play
he makes decisions faster and is more accurate than Smith ever has been. I’m still hoping Smith comes around, but he’s got a LOOONG way to go to unseat Hill after that PS game. He looked just as tentative as ever.

It’s PS game for both! Look, Smith does look good, HIll looks good, but dude i’m so surprised by you not saying a thing about Nate Davis, you suck! kidding… Nate Davis is tight.
And I bet Smith comes around soon, he’s getting better responses from his players, like a leader type
Umwut
nate davis didn’t throw a pass and doesn’t know the offense. Smith looked tentative and couldn’t make a quick throw. Shaun Hill is better @ this point, and Smith has work to do to prove otherwise.

I was JOKING about Nate Davis, that’s why i said “kidding”. It’s his FIRST game in what a year and half? I’m still giving him time, and i know everyone else is too, but at the end of the day, yea, Hill will win the job, and having Smith as a back up is great! Plus i guess this means we’re drafting another quarterback? UGH!!!!! Nate Davis is still tight
Yeah I love Davis
but he’s a couple years away probably.
And yes, it was Smith’s first game in awhile, but he looked EXACTLY THE SAME as he always looks- strong arm, but he throws the ball too late and misses opportunities.
Extremely proud adoptive parent of Paul E. Stanley, deserved all-star and hacker extraordinaire

Right, practice makes perfect i guess, but dude Nate Davis TORE UP the MAC and can you think of another QB to come out of the MAC? another QB?
Pennington and Roethellisleiburger
I love Davis, but he’s going to need time to learn an offense. He’s not a player for the job until next year, that’s why they took him in the 5th.
Extremely proud adoptive parent of Paul E. Stanley, deserved all-star and hacker extraordinaire
Thanks to roger
I've never been happier to have Crabs
They took him in the 5th for the same reason my big brother (fraternity wise) told me, HE"S STUPID!!!!!!! He doesnt know how to count, but has the best arm on the team, but yea, so do we draft yet another QB? By the way Big Ben played for Miami and he’s came back to our school a few times, and man he thinks he’s hot shit but he’s cool
Well he's already won 2 SBs so he's got a reason to unfortunately
and I see no reason to draft another QB. Why would we do that? Davis and Hill and Smith are fine with me.

I’d only take a franchise QB if there is a sure fire one in the draft but I’m not really a fan of the QBs in next years draft.
They sound good now
but once they’re dissected by the draft process, most of those guys will be seen as system QBs.

Smith didn't look that great
His numbers look alright but he was still too tentative in the pocket. He needs to learn to sit in the pocket and step in to the pocket instead of bouncing out when theres pressure. He also screwed up a screen pass during the 2 minute drill that could have gone for at least 20-30 yards.

Would Vick being in San Francisco fly with anyone here???? probably not, he’d get sooooooo much hate here, i own a dog, and honestly i don’t care about the whole situation, it’s just another bad thing, but i’m not flippin a shit over it, for all we know that kinda thing that he did is well known down there where he grew up
You’re right, it is messed up. I think a potential explanation is that with DUI, you aren’t trying to hurt someone – you end up doing it because you made a horrible, unforgivable decision.
With Vick, he made many direct choices to do what he did with a clear head. The thought of somebody abusing animals (or, for that matter, humans) intentionally in cold blood is very disturbing.
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
Right, but at the same time, where he grew up, we don’t know if it was accepted down there, and i did hear about it through ESPN and yea KNBR that people think that it is a little bit more accepted down there, because it happens there, rather here in the Bay Area
I can buy that excuse to a certain extent for the actual fighting of the dogs. Not so much the abuse of them in preparation for the fighting. That’s the part that really disturbed me.
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
Yea it’s like we said, a messed up situation and now he’s back, people have their issues with him, i know Ralph on KNBR does but point is, he’s getting his second chance and so far he hasn’t done anything wrong which is great
I don’t like what he did but he deserves a second chance. Hell, Pac Man Jones got more than enough chances.

Like I said, I’m not going to start re: Vick, but I’m hung up on Stallworth. I had to sit through hours of fire and brimstone stuff on DUIs and fatalities/injuries when driving under the influence when I did traffic school this year. I know laws vary per states, but DUIs seem like the one thing that’s not open to negotiation. Unless you’re Stalloworth, it seems.

Well...
He only got 24 days in jail, but he’s under house arrest for two years, during which he’s allowed to leave home to work out (basically means he’s allowed to go to work). So he didn’t really “just” get the 24 days.
That said, I thought his sentence was ridiculously light. If nothing else you have to throw the book at people for DUI manslaughter just for the deterrent effect.
Maybe this is how he winds up reinventing the game like we all though he would way back when. Be a heckuva story.

Granted, I wouldn’t hate him like I do now, but still. We could have had TOM FUCKING BRADY.

The sick thing is
If this happened in AT&T, there would be a very small minority (usually very drunk), that would have cheered if Kuroda or any Dodger got hit like that. Those fans would be booed out of the ball park but they would be there.

I really don’t know if we are going to get to the playoffs this year….. but I’m predicting now that the Dodgers will not win the West. Either the Rockies or us are going to get hot and catch them
I was kind of thinking the same thing (though more thinking that it would be the Rox who take the NL West).
Yes plz.

Long-time listener, first-time caller
Following the Giants since the Polo Grounds and enjoying Lincecum as much as I enjoyed Marichal. Much love to the Panda as well. But for a team with very little to no margin for error, here’s what I’d like to see these last weeks of the season – I don’t care that he hit a game-winner tonight, bench Molina. He is the worst #4 hitter I think I’ve ever seen in MLB and he provides none of the intangibles to cover up for his weaknesses. And please don’t tell me that he makes this staff go – bring Posey up now and give him the job. How many more times must we see Molina reach for the same sweeping pitch out of the strike zone, only to ground weakly to 3rd or short or hit a lame pop-up and kill another inning? Bench Garko as well and start finding out which outfielder can play first. With rare exceptions, Keith Hernandez/Vic Power/Wes Parker, all first basemen are pretty much the same. Ishi can still be a late-inning defensive replacement but let’s try something radical. I’d bat Nate 4th and see if he doesn’t rise to the occasion. If Bochy doesn’t have the guts to dare to be unorthodox, and feels he must play Molina, bat the guy 7th or 8th. Take the shot, try something different. Considering we’ve come back once this season from 3+ runs down to win, and we’ve got 5 teams with a reasonable shot at the wildcard, doing nothing is not acceptable. Garko is clearly no Victor Martinez who was the only right fit at the trade deadline. Would love to know if we offered and what we offered for V-Mart? Martinez behind the plate the rest of this year and moves to first next when we all know the catching job is Posey’s. I simply cannot watch Molina and his negative OBP any longer. Do something.

Garko’s gotten off to a slow start but benching him after all of two weeks when he’s got a BABIP of like .220 and we gave up a real good pitching prospect to get him would be fucking stupid
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
PABLO SANDOVAL AM STEAL DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS.
Exactly. He’s been probably the unluckiest guy in the world, hitting the ball hard but always right at somebody. Plus, he tends to be more patient than the other Giants hitters. I remember he took a 12 pitch walk in the Phillies series – probably one of the best ABs by a Giant all year.

Watching since the Polo grounds?
Wow, I’m guessing you’re still in NY. IMO, bringing Posey up now is not really the best idea. Maybe this is coming from my hockey fandom (where it as definitely bitten the Sharks), but sticking prospects in the major leagues early can really screw with their development. And while Posey would likely be no worse than Molina at this point, it is very possible that bringing Posey up now would stunt his development.
Just say no to premature matriculation.

Baggs knowing the story just shows how easy it would be for ESPfrickingN to get the real story if they felt like bothering, instead of needlessly disparaging a player who is probably already feeling like shit.
I hated them including the phrase, “while David Wright is in the hospital…” as if Matt’s some kind of heartless beast. Dickheads.
I know. Cain’s always been a class act. He was obviously very upset.
They DID say that he clearly did not do it intentionally, at least.
Saying that Matt Cain didn’t do a good thing in tipping his hat, why don’t you do your effing homework in knowing that shit
Oh well...
hopefully Cain will come out with a chip on his shoulder the last couple months and ride it all the way to a Cy Young.

Offensive Help Coming?
I just noticed (and shame on me for taking this long)….Josh Phelps is back! Remember him? And he played in his third game today!
Phelps is rehabbing in the AZL, now batting .300 (3-for-10) with a double and two walks, and one strikeout.

First, I thought it would be surprising if we saw Phelps this year… but maybe he gets an end of the year call up (along with Rich AuriDLa) as a right handed pinch hitter for the tretch when the roster expands. Now who goes on the 40-man? It wouldn’t be so hard to dump some names from that list.

Great game
Was at the park, and the Mets fans seemed to thin out from the 8th or so on, so that by the time Molina hit the homer, it was fan mix in my section (upper-upper reserve in RF) was 50-50. Wonderful. Right before Wright was hit by the pitch, the dude/dad behind me was telling his family that today’s game needed more brush-back pitches. At first I thought Cain had just dusted Wright off the plate, and it was a funny coincidence. Not so funny when Wright didn’t get up, and Cain went into that depressed looking squat half-way to home.
Angry Panda was great, and shut-up the Mets “faith”-ful. The view on those homers to right where is one of the nice things about sitting out there in the nose bleeds.
Travis Ishikawa, defensive replacement. 3-6-3 double play. Great stuff.
Cain 2Ks and 3 SO. At the beginning of the game, I mentioned to my wife that with a hit Cain would be batting better than Brian Schneider. I’m not sure if the math works on that but…. Only two K in the game? Felt like more.
So what do you all think? Brian Wilson closer/long-relief? He can do the dual role it seems.
Oh, and I grabbed the last batting practice ball when Jonathan Sanchez tossed it into the seats as he headed into the club house. Bruised my leg leaning over a chair, and broke the heart of some kid that had just hurtled three rows to get there. Sorry kid, it was my first official MLB ball – even if it was just BP.

Chris Dominguez: Bringing dingerz back to The Bay (In a while)
Right, and that’s from our point of view… and haha, like why the heck would Cain want to put 2 guys on in that situation??? Ask any Mets fans that. At best it just wasn’t good at all for Cain’s sake, luckily he got out of it, but yea, you don’t put someone on with 0 out a man on
He didn’t get out of it. The Mets scored that inning. Castillo tagged up and scored on two fly balls. The HBP (in, I believe, an 0-2 count) definitely led to a run scoring.
This is not necessarily with no outs but I was checking the leaders in HBPs and the top 6 are all good teams: 1-6, Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers, Phillies, Angels, Dodgers.
I guess that has something to do with baserunners, you know? Getting people on = more chances at RBI’s
Or rather, Buster Olney wrote about Buck Showalter checking it.

to be fair
If someone hit any of our players in the head I’d be pissed, intentional or no, but I like to at least imagine that I’d cool down and pay some attention to what was going on. We seem just a hint more intellectual sometimes in the way we deal with and respect other teams’ players but I like to imagine that if the situation were reversed and say Parnell had hit Garko that we’d at least try to acknowledge it was accidental once we were done calling for Parnell’s head.
Anybody’d be pissed right after it happened. It’s how you deal with it later that distinguishes you, IMO.

One nice thing to emerge from the morass that are ESPN comment boards is that sentiment seems to be generally pro-Cain / anti-douchey Mets fans & players. Francouer said something about how they ‘had’ to throw at a Giant no matter the intent of Wright’s beaning.

I didn’t think the Giants would win in a game started by Johan Santana, so I’m happy with getting a win. I wish our starters could be receiving them though.
Maybe the Giants could trade him to NY
From Baggs blog:
According to Brooklyn native Rich Aurilia, Citi Field passes muster. But a part of him still yearns for old, decrepit, Shea Stadium in all its municipal glory.
"I miss it more because that’s where I went as a kid," Aurilia said. "You come here and it’s not standing, and instead you see this big, monstrous stadium – I’ve got mixed feelings about it."
Aurilia is on the disabled list with what the team lists as an ankle injury. He’s expected to be activated when rosters expand Sept. 1, but he won’t get the chance to play in Citi Field.
"Being here is enough," he said. "Shoot, if I’m active, I probably wouldn’t play, anyway."
