It looks to me like you jerks need a new gamethread. There will be no approaching 2000 comments with howtheyscored on the job!
Let's hope that this Sonches guy I keep hearing about from the television baseball game broadcaster voice has a good rest of the game.

Rule 8.02(d)-- The pitcher shall not intentionally pitch at the batter (emphasis on intentionally)
“If, in the umpire’s judgment, such a violation occurs, the umpire may elect either to:
(1) Expel the pitcher, or the manager and the pitcher, from the game, or
(2) warn the pitcher and the manager of both teams that another such pitch will result in the immediate expulsion of that pitcher (or a replacement) and the manager."
_______________________________________________________
So the rule ONLY deals with INTENTIONAL pitches, in the judgment of the umpire. The famous “warning” doesn’t mean that the next HBP is “automatic ejection,” but that another intentional pitch would result in ejection. The phrase “another such pitch” in subsection (2) refers to another intentional pitch.
Forsan et haec olim meminisse iuvabit... Maybe.
That’s silly. If it were that easy to get hit by a pitch, players would be able to get on base whenever they wanted.

Right. So he stood closer to the plate then anyone ever has, and sometimes he even leaned into pitches, and even then he got hit only 2% of the time. So there’s nothing to really worry about.
HA HA HA LOOK AT ME I'M ALL HAPPY AND STUFF NO REALLY CAN WE STOP WITH THE COOKYMAN IS SAD JOKES?
:-) :-) :-)
Well you can get ejected for that. But if you send some scrub off the bench to lean into a pitch to get the pitcher ejected, then do it.
Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.
If the batter leans into a pitch it’s not a HBP.
HA HA HA LOOK AT ME I'M ALL HAPPY AND STUFF NO REALLY CAN WE STOP WITH THE COOKYMAN IS SAD JOKES?

By rule, true, but I can’t remember the last time I saw an umpire invoke that.
No, really, I have updated my blog this year: http://skaldheim.livejournal.com/tag/baseball
Right
Because players don’t try to get the pitcher ejected by getting HBP. But if they did, like SFGuy is worried they would, the umpires would have a reason invoke the rule, so there’s nothing to be worried about.
HA HA HA LOOK AT ME I'M ALL HAPPY AND STUFF NO REALLY CAN WE STOP WITH THE COOKYMAN IS SAD JOKES?
:-) :-) :-)
You’re a pretty sensitive guy. Cookyman said nothing rude to you.
What I said to you is closer to being rude. But I would just say that it was a tactless way of pointing out a fact. There was no use for your Tony LaRussa comment. It had no use. Hence, useless.

Thanks for the actual rule
This seems like one of those cases where the actual rule isn’t what announcers usually say it is. Rules about checked swings being another example: I’ve heard like three different explanations of how that’s supposed to work.
Brian Sabean wants to kick tires. I want to kick Brian Sabean.

Whether it counts as a swing or not.
I’ve heard it claimed that it’s whether or not the bat crosses the plate, whether or not the wrists break, etc.
Jon Miller read the actual rule on air once – as I recall, it was pretty vague and unhelpful.
Brian Sabean wants to kick tires. I want to kick Brian Sabean.
Adopted Giant: Fred "OBP and UZR, Dammit!" Lewis
Yeah, that's my recollection
I think Miller said the actual rule was, “If the batter attempts to strike the ball with the bat,” or words to that effect.
Brian Sabean wants to kick tires. I want to kick Brian Sabean.
Adopted Giant: Fred "OBP and UZR, Dammit!" Lewis
Rule 2.00, definition of "Strike"
There is absolutely nothing about “crossing the plate” or “wrists breaking” or anything like that. There are no bright line rules about strikes.
Rule 2.00 lays out all the definitions in the game, including the definition for STRIKE. There are 8 ways that a strike can be made. The one relevant to check swings is subsection (a), which is a legal pitch that is “struck at by the batter and is missed.” So there, the judgment call would be what constitutes “striking at” the pitch.

Ughh, I am happy, but it is frustrating now that both Lincecum and Cain have gotten screwed out of wins that they should have gotten.
YOU TAKE WHAT YOU GET
I choose to watch the Giants try to score runs. Not because it is easy, but because it is hard.
GIANTS WIN

Lincecum should be the leader but it seems like those voters like big shiny W’s. And Wainwright has 14.
Shouldn't
But do. Voters are dumb.

Watching the commercial with Joe Buck, Michael J. Fox and Tim McCarver. Honestly, Fox looks the least screwed up of any of that group.
