I’m guessing:
Best case scenario – Ryan Doumit
Most likely scenario – Ryan Garko
Worst case scenario – Matthew LeCroy

Y'know
Having multiple prospects at the same position is not actually a bad thing. It may seem that way, given the Giants’ recent history of developing position players – we didn’t even want to have ONE prospect at any given position for a while there – but having depth and options is actually a GOOD thing. A lot of prospects get hurt or flame out, and even if they all make it, it’s still a good thing, because that gives you trade bait.

Yeah, worst case scenario, you trade one of them. I mean, look at the Brewers – in the majors they had Fielder, who can’t play anything but 1B, and Braun, who was looking horrible at 3B. In the minors they had LaPorta – a LF who looked like he might have to move to 1B, and Gamel, another defensive liability at 3B.
So Fielder is the 1B now, Braun worked out in LF, LaPorta was traded in a great trade, and Gamel is still a question mark. If his bat works but his glove doesn’t, they can trade him to a team that needs a 1B/LF for some pitching, which they desperately need.
It’s really rare that teams run into trouble because they have too much talent. The last time it happened to us was, what, McCovey/Cepeda?

Actually it's 33
We only have 17 still unsigned – 16 if you assume that Wheeler’s already in the fold and they’re just holding off on the announcement until Monday. Below is the list of unsigned draftees. I doubt if anybody else on this list besides Wheeler gets signed at this late date, but then I also couldn’t believe that Belt signed today for only $200K ($26K over slot). I’d really love the Giants to make a strong run at signing the 2 mid-round college pitchers Jason Walls and Mitch Mormann, and the catcher Seastrunk out of Rice – it would probably take about the same amount that Belt got ($200K), which is not a big gamble in my book. Signing any one of these 3, or the local kid, Joe Lewis, from Pittsburg HS would make an already great draft into an excellent one.
1: Zach Wheeler, RHP, East Paulding HS, Ga. (committed to Kennesaw St. Un.)
18: Jonathan Walsh, OF, Coppell HS, Texas (committed to U. Texas)
19: Jason Walls, RHP, Troy Univ., Jr.
20: Mitch Mormann, RHP, Des Moines Comm. Coll., Jr. 2
21: Zach Wasserman, 1b, Lake Shore HS, Mich (strongly committed to Louisville)
23: Adam Champion, LHP, Un. Ark.-Little Rock, Jr.
28: Jamaine Cotton, RHP, West Okla. State JC, Fresh.
31: Diego Seastrunk, C, Rice, Jr.

LOL Baseball America
BA is notoriously slooooow and error-prone, but they’re right on Dunning, so the number is 34 now (soon to be 35 when Wheeler signs):
1. Luis Munoz hasn’t signed? I guess that must be a desert mirage that’s been down in Scottsdale for the past 1.5 months and already played in 16 games for the AZL Giants:
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=OF&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=571971
2. Burg signed more than 2 months ago, and is in the extended spring training camp in AZ rehabbing his surgically repaired knee (he had arthroscopic surgery on June 29):
http://washingtonstate.scout.com/a.z?s=137&p=9&c=2&cid=877338&nid=4430696&fhn=1
3. BA is right on Dunning – I knew about him, but somehow didn’t record his signing in my database. He’s been down in Scottsdale for a while playing sporadically at SS and hitting very poorly – it shouldn’t be long before he “toes the rubber”.
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=SS&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=572827
Here’s the updated list:
1: Zach Wheeler, RHP, East Paulding HS, Ga. (committed to Kennesaw St. Un.)

19: Jason Walls, RHP, Troy Univ., Jr.

21: Zach Wasserman, 1b, Lake Shore HS, Mich (strongly committed to Louisville)
23: Adam Champion, LHP, Un. Ark.-Little Rock, Jr.
28: Jamaine Cotton, RHP, West Okla. State JC, Fresh.
31: Diego Seastrunk, C, Rice, Jr.
33: Jake Dunning, RHP, Indiana Un., Jr.

RE: Wheeler, from Schulman
The Giants have till Monday to sign top pick, high school pitcher Zach Wheeler. I’m guessing it’ll get done. In fact, there’s some speculation (as their often is) that they’ve already agreed on a number that’s over slot and the Giants don’t want to announce a deal till the last minute, so as not to upset the slotters in the commissioner’s office.
