Around SBN: Can Tebow Say No To Anything?

Hey everone. Mrs. Goofus, Goofus Jr and I are now on Day 71 of P90X, which means I'm about 3/4 of the way though. Been a while since we've discussed it, so I thought I'd start it up again.

Who's still doing it? How's it going? Anyone start since we last discussed it.

My Update:
Other than switching workouts a couple days (doing cardio stuff is easier when you're traveling than bringing dumbbells), I haven't missed a workout. I've been happy with my results, epspecially my flexibility, conditioning and tightening mid-section.

The three of us recently went on a trip to Yosemite with a bunch of friends and took on some pretty challenging hikes. We pretty muched hiked circles around our friends. My body fat % has gone from about 20% to 15%. I'm hardly "ripped", but definitely look more fit than when I started.

I mentioned previously about the terrible shape I got in while recovering from a ski crash and how I wanted to get back to where I was before the accdent. Mission accomplished: I'm now actually in better shape than before the crash, so that's cool.

Only 19 days left, but I'll probably do another 90 days after a week or two off. It's pretty addicting.

I'm still on it

Except I moved in the middle and that has fucked everything up. I also fucked up my back moving.

I’m going to try to start again Monday. I’ll have taken a 2.5 week break if that works out.

How wilol you start back up? Just jump back in at day X, or at day X-2.5 weeks or what? Just curious since its all about the 90 days right?

I'm gonna restart the week I broke off in the middle of.

I’m a fairly active person in general, so I don’t think I’ll have much problem.

Yoga killed my friends. Congrats on making it so far!

I tried P90X, but I really don’t have enough room in my place to do it. However, it did get me going to the gym regularly, so I consider it a success.

It requires a little space to do the cardio stuff, but we’re able to slide a few chairs out of the way. My wife and I can do them at the same time in our living room. You probably need about 6′ × 10′ of room per person.

Sadly, I don’t have that kind of room yet. It also doesn’t help that I’m 6’5" with an almost 7’ wingspan (I should have been a pitcher).

wow i thought i was the only one doing this on my own.

i long ago finished my 90 days and now do the work outs i like 2 -3 times a week. i lost 13 lbs, but no idea about body fat percent. keep it up man, its helped me in soccer it feels like im barely doing anything now after a game

by jobrien9 on Aug 13, 2009 6:07 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I really didn’t want to lose weight as much as tone up, so I’ve been concentrating more on the the body fat than lbs. I’ve lost a few poounds, but if I’m doing the math right, I’ve lost more fat and gained some muscle.

oh my dedicated friend

so about a month ago i decided to sell/give away everything i own and move far away from los angeles… i type this now from new york. one of the things i lost in the move was the collection of p90x dvd’s, which my roommate got in the “separation”. it’s been about three weeks since i did it last, but have substituted walking/jogging 6-8 miles a day and doing my daily stretching.

i learned a ton from the system, especially the warm up and the need to change things up. i want to get back to the cycle once i move into my new place (am subleasing until sept. 15, then couch crashing until nov. 1, when my new apartment is ready). i’m also now self-employed, meaning i probably want to start each day with the p90x routine.

i’m super proud of you and the family, as it’s quite an accomplishment to get this far and keep to the system. please keep us updated and i’ll let the community know once i’m back into the game.

I would think moving and turning one’s life upside down would make it really hard to stay with something like this. My life is really settled as far as living in my own home with wife/kid/dog etc. Probably makes it easier.

Thanks for the update

I actually saw the infomercial the other day and wondered about the Goofus family and their P90X experiment. Glad to hear its working out.

Well played Goofus. I’m currently looking for a job and its kind of derailed my workouts for some reason…no reason really, just my fault for being a lazy bastard sitting at the computer all day instead of waking up an hour earlier and working out. I did chest/back and shoulders/arms earlier this week and legs/back today in preparation for starting full tilt again Monday. I think that if I jumped right back in that it would kill me so hopefully this makes it tolerable. Its kind of weird…I felt guilty when I did those routines and couldn’t do nearly what I was doing before. What a waste :-( I’m still at least 10 pounds less than before I started the first time, so hopefully I see the same results now

I just joined a gym about a month ago and have been working out four times a week. I don’t know anything about this workout you’re talking about. Is this thing better than a normal workout?

sarchasm?

p90x is an infomercial workout system that promises better results through muscle confusion. Check your cable/satellite box. It is probably on right now. I think Wilson and Zito did it in the off season – between sessions of canyon throwing.

Everyone’s different, but for me it’s better than a gym:

  • 6-7 workouts a week (1 to 1.5 hours per day)
  • Good mix of strength, cardio and flexibility (12 different workouts)
  • Cheaper than a gym membership
  • Don’t have to drive to the gym and back, so more time to actually workout and cool down at home
  • Very good “plan” with charts to record progress
  • The DVD workouts make me work much harder than if I were on my own
  • I get to be like Wilson and Zito!

I was talking to a friend who did it and we came up with this description. This is the closest thing to being a movie star and having three months to get in shape for a role and having big bucks for a trainer to plan a workout and nutrition plan and work you out every day.

Do they also give you a meal plan?

Eating well is just as important as working out.

One annoying thing

Is that I have to keep buying weights and it’s getting fucking expensive. Especially for the “lawnmower” and similar moves, I need close to 100 lbs to get any sort of burn @ 8 reps and that isn’t a normal dumbbell to have in your “collection” so to speak.

So I’ve kinda stalled out on the strength part of it because I just can’t afford to keep getting larger weights each week.

by FairweatherFan on Aug 14, 2009 9:08 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

You pull 100 lbs on lawnmowers? Dude, that’s impressive. (TWSS) How the hell did you hurt yourself moving? I’m pulling 35 but need to move up again.

You’re right though about the weights. When we started, we already had 5, 8, 10, 15 and 20 lbs. We’ve had to buy 25, 30 and 35.

If you guys plan on sticking with it long term, you might think about getting those bowflex selectech dumbells. They are ridiculously expensive but every so often you can find bowflex online coupons, or find them cheap off ebay/craigslist from people who don’t use them anymore. My place is really small so I bought them when I originally started
