What a joke. The comments are pretty funny though.

Is it a recent requirement for Bay Area newspapers to post mediocre, bumbling sports articles? They seem to have that form of journalism down to an art.

I don’t know how this happened to the guy who hit .194 in a handful of at-bats earlier this year, before he was sent down.

Sigh.

Win-win situation

Kawakami writes that Zito should be dumped; if Zito sucks afterwards, then Kawakami was right all along; if Zito improves, then Kawakami takes credit for motivation. He can’t lose!

It’s time for the Mercury News to part ways with Tim Kawakami. There is only one elephant left in the newsroom. (Now if he writes an intelligent column next week, it’s all thanks to me.)

Meet my new son: Sundrendy Windster, on the Curacao-SF express (via Arizona).

One of the posters says that Zito’s fastball now hits 90. Can anybody confirm this? That would be huge.

Zito also credits his return to truly long toss — following a year-and-a-half without it after signing with San Francisco — for the sudden return of his typical velocity at midseason last year. Radar readings of his fastball last June were as low as 82 mph. In his most recent start, the lefty hit 90.
