I didn't think I had any sympathy left
But this made me a bit sad.
I already got over it.

He was a good Giant. Not a great Giant, but a good one.
For old time’s sake:
Lofton CF
Aurilia SS
Kent 2B
Bonds LF
Santiago C
Sanders RF
Snow 1B
Bell 3B
That lineup didn’t suck.
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

It is time for hime to go, but
He was a good Giant. Not a great Giant, but a good one.
From 1999-2001, he led NL shortstops in home runs. Production trailed off in 2002, but Aurilia shined once again in San Francisco’s failed 2002 run for a World Series Championship. In 14 postseason games that season, he batted .296, with 5 homers and 14 RBI (an NL record for a shortstop in the postseason).
That type of production starts to sneak into great Giants territory.

Exactly my point. If he was “great,” it should be obvious. When you say he “starts to sneak into great Giants territory” one might say that that means it’s highly debatable if he was great. He had a very, very good 3-4 year run but it was not “great.” Bonds was great. Kent was great. Rich Aurilia was very good for a couple years.
I would not disagree that Richie was not a great Giant. He was a very good Giant though. I would put him in the class with Robby Thompson. Solid, with a few spectacular moments. A player that showed up, didn’t whine a whole lot, and did his job well.
It may be that I “mis-remember” the late 90’s and early 00’s Giants, but Richie was a very good Giant during that period. His 2002 NLCS numbers were fantastic, @ .333/.421/.800/ 1.221 and one of the reasons the Giants made it to…..the event that didn’t happen in 2002.
This is 2009. It was nice to see him come back to the Giants in 2007. Richie has never seemed to be a stupid man. You would think that after his performance last year he would have realized that it is time to go. Thanks for the memories, now have seat.

by “a bit sad” I’m assuming you meant “absolutely giddy, because it’s about Goddam time”

Things that amuse me
In the first comment that shows up, Aurilia’s name is misspelled. Dude, it’s right there in the article you’re commenting! And also he’s been a Giant for most of the past 15 years. IT’S NOT AURELIA.
Brian Sabean wants to kick tires. I want to kick Brian Sabean.
Adopted Giant: Fred "OBP and UZR, Dammit!" Lewis
I’ve been a Giants fan for a long time. Some of my favorite players: Randy Wynn, Barry Bands, Mathew Cane, and Matt Willims!
I also root for the Dodgers because I love the Natinal League West
