Open Hate on Victorino Thread
There's a lot that we have to quibble with right now: the insane vote-padding allowed by the unlimited-vote policy (which we admittedly partook in), the fact that the Phillies already filled their quota of undeserving All-Stars with Ryan Howard, the fact that Manuel was already going to stick Victorino on the squad to replace the injured Beltran and now has license to use Jayson Werth instead... but we particularly need to let a few numbers and images sink into our skulls.
Pablo Sandoval: .326/.379/.560, 2.7 WAR
Shane Victorino: .308/.372/.464, 1.7 WAR
Commence.

i’m a ranger fan and voted for sandoval and kinsler a LOT of times. as a fan it sucks that your guy didn’t make it, but victorino is certainly deserving. i imagine kins and sandoval have an inside track if there’s an injury.

Status: So pissed that the Giants sold my wall of Ks to Johnsonville Sausages, that I'm boycotting purchasing anything at the park, or patronizing their sponsors.
no
i would have voted for sandoval even if kinsler weren’t on the list for the AL.
i think there are players on the NL roster that victorino is more deserving than.
both players are better than ryan howard.
and sandova is clearly better than zimmerman (but there’s that rule that each club has to be represented)
and both were better than freddie sanchez (see zimmerman)
neither team NEEDS 13 pitchers.

In 09 they each have a WAR of 1.8. In 08 Victorino was almost a win better. In 06-07 Howard was waay better.
I hadnt realized Howard’s declined so much and Victorino’s gotten better since then.

Not that you’re suggesting that an injury should, um, unexpectedly occur. Right? Right? Ahem. I’d hate for anyone to get that idea. Really.
No, really, I have updated my blog this year: http://skaldheim.livejournal.com/tag/baseball
An injury should, um, unexpectedly occur to Victorino. If it came at the hands of Conor Jackson, I think that would be perfectly okay (in a not really wishing injury on another person sort of way).

No, he’s not very deserving at all. His hitting stats are decent, but not very spectacular considering he’s playing in baseball’s most hitter-friendly park. That, and UZR has him as a below average fielder (-7.8). It would’ve been one thing if Pablo lost to a good player like Matt Kemp or Mark Reynolds, but Victorino has absolutely no business playing in the All Star Game. He’s not that good. But we don’t hate Victorino just because he snubbed Pablo; it’s his on field jackassery that makes him so hateable.
Semi-proud adoptive father of Scott "Aaron" Barnes.
Victorino is not deserving. He’s a ridiculously dirty player who does something to disgrace the league on a monthly basis. He’s an asshole and nobody should like him. Philly fans shouldn’t even like him. There is no excuse for his ass-play, and he doesn’t deserve to be recognized as a representative of MLB, much less the National League.

Something you might not realize
Is that we’ve already hated Victorino for some time – he was guilty of some serious dishittery during a Giants game back in 2007, and got away with it, and was incredibly smug about it, too.
Also, he wasn’t particularly deserving. He hasn’t been as good as Sandoval, Matt Kemp, or, arguably, Mark Reynolds this year. He was clearly more deserving than Cristian Guzman (how he got on the ballot is beyond me), but that’s it.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.
Adopted Giant: Fred Lewis, who can still draw a walk.
As I posted elsewhere
Sandoval has been better than Victorino this year in the following categories: AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS+, doubles, home runs, RBIs, Total Bases. According to Fangraphs, he’s been significantly better than Victorino as a hitter and a fielder this year.
So, no, not deserving.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.

He’s been guilty of some serious asshatery against a lot of teams. The Giants don’t have much to complain about compared to some of the other shit he’s pulled around the league.

He gave Conor Jackson a concussion by getting into a collision at first base, the same way you would if you were trying not to get thrown out at home. Really, he RAN into the first baseman to try to break up the out. It’s disgusting.
Actually, I’m not sure if it was a concussion, but Jackson left the game and was hurt in a sort of scary way.

1) I guess that fielder’s interference trick is a favorite of his!

2) There’s a picture somewhere of him sliding into second, grabbing Alex Cora’s leg on the way to past to try to break up the play. As in, hand wrapped around ankle. I can’t find the picture though. And I saw it just the other day!

sour grapes and all that bitterness aside...
the cutoff time definitely favors east coast teams.
when ESPN and MLB highlight east coast games that just finished, the rest of the country hears about it for the rest of the night. Victorino’s recent performances definitely impacted the race (as it should).
However, Sandoval hits a grand slam to win the game at 10pm PST, and, well, the rest of the country’s asleep.
MAYBE it breaks the news on the 1am Sportscenter. And a ticker the next morning. Then we’re back to "Jeter went with 2%milk this morning) and “can Manuel’s Phillies catch up to our Mets?!”

in high school named Shane Victoriano who used to hold court and describe in graphic detail how he would ass fuck his girlfriend (who went to another school, naturally). He would preen as he looked at all the amazed faces in the circle, assuming I imagine that we were all so impressed; of course what we were really all slack-jawed about was a)how full of shit he was, and b) even if he was telling the truth, how shockingly classless it was (yes, even to a group of teenaged boys) that he would relay that kind of detail to that many people.

To the victor go the spoils
Philadelphia won the Series last year, and Victorino was in the national spotlight. Nobody knows anyone on the Giants. If they had a fan vote for best pitcher in the league, Lincecum would lose by a million votes to Johan Santana. When I tell Met and Yankee fans about Pablo Sandoval, they barely know who he is. We’re finally starting to be good, and soon our players will be well known everywhere. This was a fan vote, for God’s sake. We complain about their stupid voting for the all star team in general every year, and we’re surprised they didn’t pick the best player in this vote?

I like Victorino
but I’d like him an awful lot better if he played in SF.
What horse’s arse ever decided fans should vote for all-stars anyway? If you’re going to have an all-star game, it would be nice if it actually featured all-stars as opposed to people voted in by repetitive stress-inducing obsessive clicking, or (for the regular all-stars) whoever gets the biggest piles of ballots to punch out, complete with hanging chads. It’s always been ludicrous, but this click-o-rama-fest was the most completely stupid. Particularly since it resulted in Pablo not making the team.
Of course, if he were still a catcher he would have made the team without resorting to Chicago voting.

The fix was totally in on this one.
Chris Cohan- YOU'RE FIRED!
while I don’t agree that there was a fix besides the biased media coverage having the potential to sway the vote, i do want to see the numbers. Why they don’t show the numbers is beyond me. I want to see what percentage each player got and how far away we were

He’s not.
Neither is Lincecum (At this point) better than Santana, equal yes better NO!
Victorino is overrated and does not deserve to be an All star(Neither does Howard)but lets not go crazy.
Pablo Sandoval: .326/.379/.560, 2.7 WAR
Ryan Zimmerman: .292/.359/.480, 3.1 WAR
Roughly equals. Zimmerman’s defense gives him the slight edge but Sandoval clearly has the superior bat and could be the better player in due time. Obviously, both should be all-stars.

Johan Santana 3.29 ERA 107 K 36 BB 3.92 FIP 1.7 WAR

Lincecum is worth more in the first half this year than Santana was worth over the entire length of last season. He’s clearly the superior pitcher, which is no mark of shame for Johan – he’s superior to everybody.

Lincecum is better than Santana right now, and going forward.
Ryan Zimmerman is fine player and a class act. He should be in the all-star game.
Randy Winn is in time out until his OBP gets back over .330.
I do you pity you if you don’t think lincecum is better than santana despite the clear statistical evidence. From your profile comment numbers, it looks like you’re a mets fan, so I guess it’s not surprising you like Johan so much.
VOTE SANDOVAL
Adopted Giant: Henry Sosa
I do you pity you too raisingcain I’m sure you were aiming for a terribly witty remark on my name.
Anyway statistics show that I was right about Zimmerman barely and I was wrong about Johan barely.
Meh hardly a big deal.
Of course going forward Lincecum will be better than Santana you could say that about any two good players one who is young one who is older. Will they have comparable careers probably though Santana had 3 seasons in a row of +7 WAR.
I’m actually surprised Pablo is a + defender at third, though Zimmerman is the best 3B defender in the NL.
Neither is Lincecum (At this point) better than Santana, equal yes better NO!
Nah

the south looks a little too big, massachusetts and LA a little too small.

I blame Kinsler
I just looked at Kinsler’s line since July 1: .069/.156/.207 for a whopping .363 OPS. He dragged down the ticket.
Meet my new son: Sundrendy Windster, coming soon to a minor league near you.
bad press for the running mate, always blowing elections. I didn’t know Detroit was so determined too.
