1st Impressions....
In my case hopefully won't cause any lasting damage. Let me do what I should have done originally and introduce myself.
Despite what initial impressions may insinuate, I am not a spambot whore or blogger looking to pimp out for my own gain, nor am I a deliberate douchebag. I am a recent graduate of Syracuse University, with a degree that has absolutely nothing to do with writing (or, evidently, Public Relations). I grew up in Redwood City, CA just south of San Francisco. I only lived there for 10 years but, as could be understood, that was more than enough time to fall in love with anything that had to do with Bay Area sports. One of my fondest memories is seeing my name on the birthday board at Candlestick at a Giants game when I was 6.
Probably the hardest thing about moving for me (I moved all the way to the far east coast) wasn't losing friends; it was losing my teams. You have no idea how hard it is to see the Giants on the TV once a month, at best. It's brutal. But that never killed my love for them, or any other Bay Area team. The Giants, Niners, and Warriors are my true loves. Talking about them (writing, debating, critiquing, etc.) is my passion.
I am not a blogger who has the time to dig up stats and make crazy analyses of them (usually) but I love that people can and do. And I love to read and comment on others' opinions. It's cool to see so many Giants fans' brains and hearts in high gear at work.
I'll keep this short and sweet, but I once again wanted to apologize for how I blasted onto the scene. No disrespect was intended in the least, and I hope I can join this awesome community and have some great discussions on the Giants!

First off, I wish you a pleasant time reading these wonderful boards.Second, Don’t post three fanposts in a row, it really is unnecessary especially given some of the topics. Just do this intro on one of your other fanposts where you have gotten considerable feedback.

RENTON: What’s on the menu this evening?
SWANNEY: Your favorite dish.
RENTON: Excellent.
SWANNEY: Your usual table, sir?
RENTON: Why, thank you.
SWANNEY: And would sir care to settle his bill in advance?
RENTON: Stick it on my tab.
SWANNEY: Regret to inform, sir, that your credit limit was reached and breached a long time ago.
RENTON: In that case…. [He produces twenty pounds.]
SWANNEY: Oh, hard currency, why, sir, that’ll do nicely.

I can sympathize with that! I just finished up four years of college on the East Coast and it was Hell. But I stayed up until 1 AM many times listening to the game on Gameday Audio (we won’t talk about the times in England where I stayed up until 5 AM listening to a Timmy start…)

Oh man...
I spent a majority of my already limited income keeping up with them on some form of radio or broadcast. Way worth it though.
Btw- I dig the “Washington Washington” reference.

Gameday Audio really is a pretty great deal, though I’m glad I won’t have to deal with it anymore (hopefully, anyway.)

I know I’ve said this before, but I can still remember how excited I was when USA Today first came on the scene — with their satellite technology I was finally able to find out what the Giants had done THE NIGHT BEFORE!, rather than follow their box scores at a two-day remove like I always had to do with the Globe. Their scores were never on the nightly news, and cable wasn’t available in Boston yet. Aside from calling my Dad and asking them what was going on (which I was forced to do at several points in1982) there was simply no way to find out what was going on at less than a 48 hour remove prior to the Rupert Murdoch revolution (I still have a soft spot in my heart for the ol’ McNews).

I missed most of the ’93 season living in Prague. Before the glory days of the internet – for Prague before the days of TV. I did stay up ridiculously late to see Salomon Torres fail though, that was great.

I missed the 1990 season (and the 1990 Super Bowl — Niners kicking the crap out Denver) living in Prague — another place where USA Today came in handy, come to think of it. Although there we were grateful when, like week or two week old editions showed up at the US Consulate, as they and similar timed Intl Herald Tribunes were the only thing in English you could get there at that time. I remember coming across a special Super Bowl section months and months later, sometime in April or May, and cherishing it in my room for the rest of my stay.

Oh I remember the Herald Tribune very well. 3 day old box scores! Thankfully the media age is here. Living on the East Coast doesn’t deter my Giants and Warriors addiction.

Speaking of old box scores:
I was traveling with my gf (now wife) in Italy and Greece in Sept./Oct. of 1993 and I remember us being on Santorini as the season was nearing the end (tough life). Every day in early October I would trudge up to the town where they had the three-day-old Herald just to buy the thing and read the box scores. I distinctly remember the last day I did this—seeing a pained picture of Salomon Torres, and knowing that this had all taken place like 4 days before. That was truly painful.
Now with the INTERWEBZ we get our pain delivered so much more quickly.

Very nice re: Syracuse. That’s my first pick if I decide to pursue grad school. I’m eyeing an MPA or MPP degree. yeah because a sportswriter really needs one of those, right? How can you go wrong with a mascot that’s just the Orange, though?
Try not to let our insane ramblings scare you away. We routinely degenerate into picspams and memes can snowball out of control. Stick around though, and you’ll probably come away with some good recipes.

I did not know that.
As it turns out, at least according to Wikipedia, Heinlein is given credit for popularizing TANSTAAFL, but the acronym goes back to (at least) 1949, when it was used both in a Walter Morrow column in the SF Chronicle and in a monograph by someone called Pierre Dos Utt (“TANSTAAFL: a plan for a new economic world order”).
Wikipedia also says the phrase is popular with “science fiction fandom, libertarians, and is often seen being used in economics textbooks.”

pops was a giants fan from way back in N.Y.
Until he passed at 106 grandpa, remained a giants fan. He would stay up until all the West Coast Scores were final, and he lived the entire time on the EAST coast. He saw all the greats on the giants, yankees and other teams. Being born in1898, and he said the best and most exciting baseball player he ever saw was Willie Mays. As you can probably tell, my dad, and I and all the siblings are giants fans. My dad lived in Calif. for a while, but moved back to the east coast for business reasons. I have lived my entire life on the east coast, but once I finish graduate school, I will strongly be looking in the bay area. Keep hanging in there Golden Gate Review, there are thousands of giants fans all over the U.S. and overseas, in very similar circumstances as yourself. Great to have another die hard, at the McCoven
