Best Baseball Novels
Saw this linked over at BBTF and thought it would be good to talk about. I loved The Celebrant and gave it as a gift to the guy who got me into the Giants in the first place. I also enjoyed Pafko At The Wall, the beginning of Don DeLillo's Underworld, which was published as its own volume, although I probably liked it more because of the topic than anything else.

I love The Dreyfus Affair. It’s my favorite book, not just my favorite baseball book. It’s the baseball slash story to end all baseball slash stories.

I’m surprised no one mentioned W.P. Kinsella’s books, Shoeless Joe (upon which “Field of Dreams” is based) or The Iowa Baseball Confederacy. Both good reads, especially the latter.

The Universal Baseball Association, Inc., J. Henry Waugh
This is a fantastic book, especially for anyone who has ever played APBA or any other simulated baseball games.

“If I never get back” by Daryl Brock.
Time travel to the very early days of pro ball, entertaining and rowdy.
Will look for some of those suggestions, thanks.

A bit differnt take on the question
As a kid I enjoyed The Kid from Tomkinsville. They are 3 books and it took me like 2 days to read them. Considering how often I was outside if it was light how books were not allowed outside ( "You don’t treat them like that.") quite an accomplishment. Though I doubt , as an adult, I would be anywhere near as impressed with them now but they started me reading other baseball books not all of which were fiction.
Yes, This is still a 79 win squad.
Fuggen Rox! You might want to try beating The Bums more than once in 10 games. Try it. You might find you like it.
