Scott Hairston has been traded to the A's for 2 minor leaguers, perhaps a precursor to a Holliday deal?

NO MORE HAIRSTON!

Except during interleague, but still!

Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.

Over 2/3 less Hairston per season!

Italiano is the fakest sounding name I’ve ever heard.

He was just tired of being mistaken for Craig Español or Craig Français.

Billy Beane is so good, he’s convincing other teams to take made-up players

Italiano’s prolly going right to the Lake Elsinore bullpen. He’s been pretty bad all year and the LE rotation is awesome, the best in the league if you ask me.

Good news is he’s out of the SJ Giants’ hair. He’s owned the Giants this year.

I saw Italiano pitch early in the year against the Giants. He certainly didn’t look like to me like he was worth acquiring.

by FluLikeSymptoms on Jul 5, 2009 9:17 PM PDT up reply actions

He repeated advanced-A this year after splitting the year between low-A and advanced-A, and before that was stuck in low-A for two seasons. No thanks.

Agree, I think this is another deal where the PTBNL is key. Rumors say it “will be one of two pitchers in the A’s organization. One of these unnamed players reportedly has Major League service time.” Could be one of oaktown’s real prospects, as opposed to these two mediocre ones

I stand corrected. Italiano might end up in the LE rotation as they promoted their best pitcher Cory Luebke to AA.

From MLB.com:

Towers said the deal with the A’s came about in the past day, when A’s general manager Billy Beane contacted him in the eighth inning of Saturday’s game against the Dodgers. Towers had another deal in place, but after talking to Beane, he decided to jump on that deal instead.

I wonder what the deal in place was?? Giants were rumored to be interested,

by SFGuy on Jul 6, 2009 2:08 AM PDT reply actions

That would be typical Billy Beane, hearing the Giants had a deal in place and then disrupting it. They did the Giants’ a favor though. If we can’t do better than Scott Hairston, we should stand pat.

Proud new dad of Edgardo errr Edgar Renteria!!!

well, if the package Beane offered was actually better than the package the Giants offered then we were about to get Hairston for free.

yeah, I seriously doubt that is the case

by FluLikeSymptoms on Jul 6, 2009 1:43 PM PDT up reply actions

is it really? Oakland has no use for him for the rest of the year, and doesn’t want to take on his salary.

He is a free agent at the end of the year.

by jctGamer on Jul 6, 2009 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Personally, I think it is a choice between Gallagher, Eveland, and Duchscherer.

by jctGamer on Jul 6, 2009 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions

I am willing to bet it was the Mets

by jctGamer on Jul 6, 2009 12:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Please no Holliday. He’s overvalued since has not put up big numbers with the A’s and a free agent after the season anyway. If could get him very cheaply, then yeah, can always use another bat, but not worth giving up their better prospects.

SCOTT HAIRSTON IS OUT OF THE NL WEST!!!!

We’re done playing the A’s this year, right?

No more game-winning homers against us from that smush-faced bastard!

This will give us at least two more wins this year.
