Great QB. He was my favorite QB as a young child. I hated the Rams, and he was so close to getting that miracle Super Bowl win. I haven’t heard anything bad about him as a person, and even if he wasn’t he wouldn’t deserve anything like this. R.I.P.

when I used to play football with my buddies and was a QB I totally tried to emulate McNair’s style, particularly the way he moved to his left and still threw missiles down the field. I actually got kinda good at it. He was always a favorite of mine going back to his Alcorn days. This makes me very sad. RIP.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

a shame about McNair’s death, however what is the proper time period before we can actually mention that the guy was a married man and the father of four, and was 36 years old, running around with a 20 year old kid? He bought her a fancy car, drove her around in limos, and then probably broke up with her, which is probably why she flipped out. His indiscretion cost him his life, left four kids without a father, and brought his poor widow a world of embarrassment to go with her sorrow. Nobody deserves to die like this, and I’ve made my own mistakes in life, but I’ll save my sorrow for the people I don’t know who die on a daily basis through no fault of their own. He might have been a hero on the football field, but not in the real world.

If it’s proven that he was screwing around with this young lady, then yes, it’s a bad move on his part. But did he deserve to get plugged multiple times for it?

And for all we know (probably not the case though…) he and his wife could be separated or something. But like Baron said, i don’t think he deserved to be shot multiple times for it.

I’m not arguing, I said nobody deserves to die like this, and it’s a shame, but philandering husbands have brought things like this on themselves for quite some time, although usually it’s the wife that does the shooting. As for the other parts, everything I’ve read about it says he was together with his wife, and he even had the nerve to continually go in to the Dave and Buster’s where she worked with his wife and kids many times before picking her up. There’s no way he deserved to die, but all these testimonals that make him out to be a saint are ridiculous. Same thing with Michael Jackson last week. He died because he was doing the wrong thing. Some guy named Earl told me it was “karma.”

I’m sorry , what? Can you elaborate on that particular cause/effect without the “karmic” insubstantiality?

Right, the circumstances are rarely clear in romantic relationships. Not every married couple agrees to monogamy, as one example. For all we know, this might have been a relationship as agreed upon by the two marrieds. We don’t know. I’m not about to speculate on the logistics of it. All I know is two people are dead and it’s a fucking tragedy for the families and friends of both people.

Indeed. But imagine the double whammy for the wife if this wasn’t agreed upon.

you’re really bending over backwards for the guy suggesting that maybe they had an open relationship. Can you name even one athlete who when caught cheating said, “no problem. We have an open relationship?” How about one player’s wife who has said that? In fact, I’ve read a few interviews with players, coaches and friends since this tragedy occured. I’m sure one of them would have mentioned it to preserve his image if this was the case. I’ll bet there are millions of partners in a relationship who would love to put a bullet in a cheating partner. Needless to say they don’t want to spend the rest of their lives in jail so they don’t do it. McNair was unfortunate enough to hook up with a woman who didn’t care what the consequences were. I read she had a DUI with him in the car two days before the shooting. He probably knew this incident would become public, and attempted to break up with her. Some women don’t take this news well.

The point is we don’t know what the situation is and I’m not about to judge or speculate on it.

So you’re saying she killed McNair then turned the gun on herself? Or they shot each other?

by victor frankenstein on Jul 5, 2009 8:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think it’s fairly easy to follow if you’ve read the media reports and watched the news. You don’t have to be a psychic. Two days before the incident, she was arrested and charged with a DUI, and he was in the car at the time. When the police checked, they found that the car belonged to both McNair and her. When that happens, your affair is going to go public, and your wife will not only find out you’re cheating, but that you’re spending tons of money on the girl. Put this together with the interview I heard with her best friend in which the girl supposedly told her that McNair was in love with her and leaving his wife, and it’s easy to see that this deluded girl freaked out when she was told that she was being dumped.
This might not be right, but I doubt you can come up with a more likely scenario considering what we have heard so far.
