If the Giants don’t lose the rest of the season, they are in the playoffs.

WRONG!

http://riot.ieor.berkeley.edu/~baseball/national_league.html

The wildcard number to clinch is/was 76.

We could drop all 6 of 9 remaining games against the eventual NL West winner (for some reason the standings show a fictitious team in southern California in first place) and win the wildcard by winning every other game.

Even if the leading teams in the other divisions were to win all of their games against the non-contenders, it’s their head-to-head for their division titles that provides the crucial number of losses that takes them out of wildcard contention.

Fred Lewis can stand under my umbrella.

My first thought was “Now we’re never going to win a game, ever again.”

However, I think the offense is just running through our allotment of runs first, just to tantalize us.

Proud father of Barry Zito. As long as he keeps throwing strikes, that is.
