I think I would sacrifice Sanchez to never have to face Hairston again.
THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME (for 3 days in 1995).

That wouldn’t do any good, because in the grand tradition of “Wow, let’s get this guy, he always kills us” Giants trades… the minute he puts on a Giants uni he will continue to kill us by hitting into double plays and shoddy defense.
BUT IT WORKED WITH MARK PORTUGAL!!!
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.
Adopted Giant: Fred Lewis, who can still draw a walk.
so they’re going to bench Nate Schierholtz for Hairston and also deal Jonathan Sanchez within the division? Brilliant. Combine this with that twitter yesterday about Sabean being desperate to make a deal, and I’m getting scared. Let these guys play until the deadline and then make a move, and please NOT Scott Hairston!!
Proud new dad of Edgardo errr Edgar Renteria!!!
He’s hitting .314 and has 10 hr. I personally would welcome this move. Shierholtz would still play, and Winn is pretty much done with us after this year. I have been hating Sanchez all this time now, so I really don’t care if he goes.
NO!
All Hairston=Satan jokes aside, we need to see what we have in Bowker before making any move to bolster the outfield. If he doesn’t pan out we can still get by the second half of the season with a platoon in LF. Ultimately if we don’t make into the playoffs it’ll likely be based on our 2B production not LF.
If this move is made Hariston would not be a free agent tell after next season. I would guess either him or Rowand would move to RF next year. A near 0 UZR in center field with over 500 SLG is nothing to laugh at for a pennant push. Carrier wise a 3.7 UZR with /338wOBA can by quite valuable. Now please excuse me for I feel I must go shower after thinking on this.
Yes, This is still a 79 win squad.
Fuggen Rox! You might want to try beating The Bums more than once in 10 games. Try it. You might find you like it.
No thank you
His career line is .257/.314./.470, so I’d rather give Fred/Nate/BOWKERMANIA the playing time. Also, I imagine Hairston’s line would look a lot worse if you took out the vs. Giants numbers. Plus, I fricking hate Scott Hairston, and you should too.
Osiris, lord of the dead, and relief pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.
I like this because...
….he is right handed and would balance out our outfield. As much as this trade seems so wrong on sp many different levels, I would still love to see a Scott Hairston/Randy Winn platoon the rest of the year.
What about Dukes? Maybe the Nats would swap us him for Fred Lewis and one of Medders/Miller. I think Sanchez could be a huge asset for us out of the pen and I’m not a fan on trading him just because his starting days seem to be numbered for now. Dukes would give us right handed bat with a little pop and we could platoon him the same way for the rest of the year
Dukes has been worse offensively and defensively this season than Lewis, plus has all that baggage, so this would clearly be a great idea.

Dukes has an OPS of .819 vs left handed hitters. Have you seen Winn/Lewis numbers vs lefties? What part of platoon don’t you understand?
Wow, we could get someone who’s a poor defender, a headcase with an extensive violent and criminal history, and is sorta-kinda average against lefties!? SIGN ME UP!
And if you really want to get into splits, his are ambiguous. He was actually much better against righties than lefties last year.

Yeah, and while we’re at it, let’s bring back Pierzynski, too, trade for Khalil Greene and get him doped up on mood stabilizers, try to lure Ron Cey out of retirement…

We don't need Ron Cey....
We already have his hitting stance in Aaron Rowand.

People are going to be lowballing us for Sanchez now that he's been put into the bullpen...
But Sanchez could be really damn useful if we pair him with Johnson or Zito so that the starter only has to go 5/6 innings and Sanchez can go 2/3 innings. Also, SECOND BASEMEN. THAT IS WHAT WE NEED. WE NEED IT. FIND IT.
Status: So pissed that the Giants sold my wall of Ks to Johnsonville Sausages, that I'm boycotting purchasing anything at the park, or patronizing their sponsors.
Hard to take this story seriously
How do you take this doofus seriously when he headlines the article “Giants Look to Acquire LH Bat.” Any reporter worth listening to would know that the Giants need RH bats – we’re filled to the top with average LH bats here and in the minors that hit RH pitchers pretty well, not to mention the home park bias against LH bats. Besides that, the first 3 names that he throws out are all 1B that will be FAs at the end of the season. I don’t think Sabes would be willing to give up anything very good for those 3 guys because of that. Sabean has made some real bonehead trades in the past, but since Bonds has left he’s done a fairly nice job of rebuilding and giving the young guys a shot. Now if the Pirates, Nats or O’s want to give these guys away for moderate prospects in order to save $$$, then I’m sure Sabes would be willing to listen.
That being said, I wouldn’t mind having Hairston to platoon with Nate and Winn in LF/RF. His splits vs. LH pitching are very good. I don’t see the Pads being willing to help us out unless we really knock their socks off and overbid for Hairston. It wouldn’t hurt to try though. I wouldn’t give up Sanchez for him – try another package of a MLB reliever and minor league pithcers. Why trade Sanchez when he’s at such a low ebb in his career? In the future I think that he will pitch better and be much more in demand.

This Article Is Not Believable To Me.
The author also talks about the Giants primary trade target being a left handed bat for 1B when Sabean has specificly said he is seeking to add a right handed bat and that he does not see a need to add a left handed bat.
I'll Aubrey Huff and I'll Aubrey Puff and...
Aubrey Huff, 32, looks to be the best of the possible LH 1B mentioned in this article to me.
As much as I like Travis Ishikawa’s solid defense and budding offense, he’s doesn’t seem to be the kind of hitter that can will hit 30 HRs and knock in 100+ RBI’s per season anytime soon, which Huff did last year, as well as in 2003 and almost in 2004. He’s already got 55 RBI’s this season, which is 11 more than Bengie, our current RBI leader. And his current fielding percentage is .994 in 67 games played.
"It kind of gives everybody else out there who is not a big person the motivation and the inspiration that they know they can do it, too."--Tim Lincecum
Ishikawa’s 09 WAR: 0.6; Salary: $401,000
Huff’s 09 WAR: 0.2; Salary $8,000,000
HR rate for 09 is basically a wash at 1HR/30.16PA vs 1HR/30PA.
RBIs are irrelevant since Ishi’s primary spot in the order is 6th/7th while Huff bats 4th on a much better offense.
