Will Bochy really sit Renteria?
In reading different reactions to the Sanchez trade, I have read several people say one of the benefits of this move is that it allows Bochy to bench Renteria and put Uribe in his place. Theoretically, this sounds like a good idea, as Uribe has been the better offensive player, and couldn't be that much of a defensive downgrade.
My issue is that I just cannot see Bochy benching Renteria. It is my impression that Bochy will only pull the plug on young kids, and is much more reluctant to sit a "proven major league shortstop." So, while I do like the idea of Uribe taking Renteria's spot for the time being, I am skeptical that it will really end up working out like this. We may see a bit more of Uribe at SS than we would have otherwise, but I still envision the majority of the starts going to Renteria.
Am I the only one who is feeling this way?

there’s like no chance renteria ever gets benched unless it’s due to injury

Although with his bad elbow, that’s certainly a possibility.

I imagine the talk will go something like: “Well, he’s the man we have paid to play SS, and as long as he can get out there, he’ll be in the lineup.” Worst management in baseball. Take that, Washington Nationals!

What is hope they do, once Sanchez is healthy, is put Renteria on the DL for a couple of weeks. He seems to be less than 100% and hopefully with some time off he could come back stronger.

The problem with that theory
is that Renteria has a bone spur, which isn’t going anywhere without surgery. Either the Giants convince him to get season ending surgery (good luck), or he plays hurt the rest of the way.

Edgar Renteria or Rich Aurilia the rest of the way?

I completely missed the bone spur diagnosis yesterday. I guess I was too busy reading Freddy Sanchez rumors.

No, Renteria will not be benched. But why not put this in the last fanpost rather than starting a new one?

Renteria's a 5 time All-Star
Bochy does not bench All-Stars, ever. Because Renteria is a proven winner. Or something.

There's no way Bochy benches the sucky veteran
In his world, they need to play their way out of trouble. But yes, an Uribe / Sanchez IF certainly looks better than one with Renteria in it, tonights performance notwithstanding.
Jonathan Sanchez. He's left-handed, like Barry Zito. His fastball breaks 80, unlike Zito.

you're right
what a sad state of affairs… we have an injured, aging shortstop with no range putting up a .252/.304/.315 line, and he can’t earn a well-deserved benching.

YOU DON'T BENCH A 8.5 MILLION DOLLAR MAN
Now we will have an expensive double play combo that will probably total less than 14 dingers between them. There is something wrong with Renteria. he just is not hitting like he used to. He is not that old, so something has gotta be ailing him.

By the way, despite Renteria being our SS didn't Boston finally win a WS by using steriods.
More and more of the Red Sox nation, will not be so upset by steroids now that all their hero’s took them. Boston gave Bonds some of the worst jeers of any city when he played against the Red Sox.

So we should solve out team's power outage with massive injections of undetectable steroids?
