Breaking News: That is really false!

Proud father of Juan Carlos Perez. Think Albert Pujols at a position to be determined.

@#$% Juan Uribe. Dios es grande.

Devil’s Advocate here:

The Mariners have gotten good results through a renewed emphasis on defense. Wilson is one of the best defensive SS in the baseball and about as good a hitter as Betencourt (terrible defensively) who they just dumped. Clement has mashed at AAA, but has not hit well in the majors – which may be raising flags for the M’s. Plus isn’t he just a first baseman at this point? Most teams not located in SF can get better than replacement results from first base easier than most positions.

Snell could still be a very good pitcher, though he has struggled in the majors. The other guys are all A-ball, so who knows.

Plus the Pirates threw in a bunch of $$$.

I’m not saying I don’t think the Pirates made out well. They are out of contention now and for the next few years, Wilson is a free agent after this year, they might as well get something for him. If Seattle fails to resign Wilson, then this could be a pretty bad move. If going to Seattle now increases his chances of resigning then maybe this deal turns out ok…

Eh

I really don’t think this is that bad of a deal. Clement’s value is very diminished if he can’t catch (which he can’t), Cedeno is awful, and while the A ball guys have value, they still come with the normal prospect risk. It’s not a win for the Mariners, but I doubt this is a huge loss for them either.

The cash the Mariners received doesn’t hurt either.

The Mariners have been a pleasant surprise, but let’s be honest, they shouldn’t be buyers right now with Anaheim and Texas ahead of them.

I concur

I went over to Lookout Landing, and the general consensus seemed to be that they gave up a little too much in terms of the prospects, but it didn’t seem at all like they were gathering the torches and pitchforks.

I’m not that high on Adcock, one of the A-level pitchers the Pirates received. He looked good earlier in the year but fell apart in the last month or so. The Mariners have horrible mismanaged Clement through his career, and now that it’s clear that he’s not catching, it’s not like they lost anything in trading him.

I actually think the Mariners won here.

I agree

I like the Pirates end of the deal more than the Mariners end, but I certainly don’t think the Mariners got robbed here

By the way, how did Ronny Cedeno get from Chicago to Seattle in the first place?

For Heilman, IIRC.
