Post-Game: Giants Take Second Straight From Pirates
July 28, 2009
Eugenio Velez: 2 RBI
Freddy Sanchez: 0 RBI

The ball's in your court, Pittsburgh. We could probably be talked into a straight-up swap, but time is running out.

Yea I’m really scared. The thing that made him great was his transcendent fastball. Without that…he’s nothing
according to a scout Roger talked to
Interestingly, the guy in front of me said he wasn’t that worried about it, because Bumgarner’s arm action was still good, his velocity was very easy, and “you could see there was a lot more in there.” He said it’s probably just a lot of innings on a young body, and once he matures physically and gets stronger it will come back. And generally, that a sudden loss of velocity isn’t as much a red flag on a 19 year old in AA as it would be on a mid 20 or 30 something year old in the majors.

and right now, Haren is 10-6. Timmy has the best balance of ERA, Strikeouts and Wins. I don’t think it’s even close right now.

accord to fangraphs http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/all-hail-zack-greinke
Zack Greinke is about half way through the 2009 MLB season and to date he has been worth 5.5 wins. He is roughly on pace to accumulate 11 wins. As a pitcher. In the last four years, no pitcher has broken past the eight win mark. Since 2002, the first year our win values start, the highest recorded mark is Randy Johnson’s 9.9 wins in 2004.

It would have been nice to see Zito get that last out and therefore get the W. Anything we can do to keep him confident would be a plus
zito has given us no reason to trust him this year. 9ER just three starts ago.
No one here gets out alive.
Pulling him there was less about not trusting him than it was about not trusting our anemic offense.

Zito admitted he was surprised he got the hook with two on in the sixth and two outs after he struck out pitcher Charlie Morton, who was trying to sacrifice.
“I definitely support this team, but I didn’t expect to get taken out,” Zito said. “I certainly support (manager Bruce) Bochy’s decision as manager. He’s been in this game a long time. It worked out.”

So if we assume Sadowski gets one more start and is banished forever
We break in a rookie At Houston, and then at home vs the Dodgers?
ouch. It’s been nice knowing you, Joe Martinez / Kevin Pucetas.

I really can’t think of a worse park to break a rookie in than Minute Maid Park.
Ok I lied. Yankee Stadium.
But a GB pitcher like Martinez would at least have a fighting chance.

On a side note
Is it unreasonable for me to want to get out to the series against the bums mid Aug. even though it is around our 1 year anniversary? The wife would be coming of course.
Of course not.
And if she isn’t cool with that, it’s better to find that out before you throw more of your prime years down this rathole of a marriage.

Our “anniversary” is this weekend. We’re driving into the Bay Area to go to the computer history museum in Mountain View, and 2 Giants games (Saturday and Sunday).
Why would that be unreasonable?
There’s tons of stuff to do in the City too: plays, art museums, and whatnot.
Why is "anniversary" in quotes?

If you were the Government, it’d be called Anniversary Observed.
But then, that would only be hot for an anniversary if you were exhibitionists. Maybe if you were voyeurs, too.

I couldn’t be with someone who doesn’t take sports at least as serious as I do. Which means, baseball is the most important thing in the world.

Yea...
…the girl I was sortof interested in lately is a huge hockey fan, so I figured we could be compatible on the sports level (she enjoyed the games I took her to, and I do enjoy Hockey a lot)…but nah, I guess religion was more important. :(

I don’t expect girlfriends to follow sports like I do, but they need to understand that I enjoy drinking beer and watching the Giants and 49ers. If they are a sports fan, that is a great bonus. Except the Raider fan girlfriend I had, I should have ended it there.

MIssed McCovey Night
…. but i was at yesterdays game. just couldn’t get my friends to get there any earlier than like ten seconds after the first pitch. But that was seriously one of the most fun baseball games I have ever been to. We sat in section 103 right under the K’s in right field. Screamed my head off. Partied late into the next morning. Was a great night!
No one here gets out alive.
I was at the game and saw Sabean sitting in the stands with Baer and two others (I believe they were Bobby Evans and John Barr as Schulman said they were sitting together with Dick Tidrow, who I did not see). I figured something was up when Baer is talking to Sabean.
Baer: “Dude, you want some Garlic fries? I WANT some garlic fries. Damn. Someone get us some Goddamn garlic fries!”
Sabean: “Did I just see Shawon Dunston? Can he still play?”
