When the players come up, they throw a dart at numbered dart boards, that’s how many AB’s they get.

by Merope on Jul 27, 2009 6:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Burriss was really lucky

They must have thrown a triple-20 when they put him on the roster.

If Bowker or Frandsen ever become opening day starters for any team, Sabean and Bochy need to be forcibly retired on the spot.

I guess Downs is the only player deserving of more than 40 Ab’s.

So, Yeah, I agree with WTF.

Do not meddle in the affairs of GM's, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

by CB30 on Jul 27, 2009 6:45 PM PDT up reply actions

He has had some success. But let’s not forget— he’s a Single A pitcher. And TINSTAAPP. We handed the Indians a lotto ticket. It’s a semi-promising lotto ticket (maybe a couple numbers have come back positive, but we’re still waiting for the rest), but it’s still questionable whether he’ll contribute at the ML level and how much for how long. For 3+ years of Garko, for an offense starved team I think it’s worth it… I think. I guess it depends on who the PTBNL is.

I guess I think that if this is the only deal we make it looks like it’s just a half-assed move to make it look like we’re trying to go for it this year. Now, if we follow this up with a deal for a 2B, or a corner OF bat or something, then I’m all for it.

He’s a better bat than maybe anyone else on our team besides Pablo and Rowand and Nate if he keeps hitting (and maybe Winn… I still have some hope that he’ll bounce back a bit)… for our situation, he’s a decent fit.

I guess what I’m saying is he’s not going to push us over the top, by any stretch of the imagination. But if it’s a prelude to more trading to come, maybe it’s a good first step.

I don’t know the Indians organization’s tendencies with promoting minor leaguers, but I saw that he was being assigned to their Class A affiliate. If he finishes the year there, he should start next season in AA if he continues at his current rate. They could also try pushing him a bit and send him to AA before the end of this season, but they may want to see how he reacts to being traded for the first time rather than compounding that with a promotion.

At any rate, I see him starting in AA next year. Where he goes from there depends on if he keeps it up and if the Indians will reward that. He could see AAA by the end of 2010.

the number 9 prospect in a good system. He’s a good lefty. He altered his delivery at the end of his last year at St. Johns and that helped him improve his velocity. He throws low 90’s with good sink. Has decent secondary pitches. After being drafted in the 8th round last year, he moved quickly to the Sally and dominated the competition. He’s been quite good in the Cal League this year, averaging a strikeout per inning. He turns 22 in September. You guys should be happy about what you’re getting.

Here is something quite observable that I recall Bob saying he disliked about Bengie either last season or the one before.
—- Bengie stands up between every pitch and this throws off the pitchers rhythm and timing—

Personally, I’m no expert on this but I think part of it is this: even though pitchers may seem to take forever with their in between pitch routine, they can’t really start their routine until the catcher is set. There’s probably a lot more to it than that, which a layman such as my self would not understand- maybe some of you do.

For those that think Garko brings an end to Molina batting clean-up:
This season, Garko hit .285 with 11 homers and 39 RBIs in 79 games for the Indians, who seek a refurbishment of their roster as they endure a fourth-place campaign in the American League Central. He should feel comfortable at the plate as he joins the Giants, having batted .349 with five home runs and 11 RBIs in his past 23 games. He’ll likely bat fifth or sixth, Sabean said.

I like the way they talk about Bengie’s double that got it started, but don’t mention the fact that he killed rally after rally the rest of the game. Man on third one out he fanned, and that DP in the eighth created an inning where the Giants had three walks and a hit and didn’t score.

Giants GM Brian Sabean said he envisions having Garko on the team next year. Garko was hitting .285 this season with 11 homers and 39 RBI in 78 games. In his last 23 games, Garko was batting .349 with five homers and 11 RBI.

DAMN WELL BETTER FUCKIN BE.

Best ever

You guys saved my life tonight. I showed up pissed off due to several annoying factors and missed the gathering at the bar. But to see everyone smiling at me, shouting hello, hugging me, and handing me gifts lifted my spirits immediately. Then we had fun sitting in awesome seats with jponry, who is awesome and hilarious, jctgamer who is also awesome and hilarious, and TK, who is one of my favorite people on the planet. And Tim was ridiculous.

So very awesome. Thank you, all.

wow, big thread... took forever to load to the bottom of this page :P

anyways, i had a question, does anyone know why that 2nd run scored by the pirates for this game didn’t count as an earned run against timmy? I was at the game (awesome night btw), so when I came back and checked the box score i was pretty surprised to see 0 ER’s.. which is awesome, but I just wanna know why =)
