Dodgers Suck & Trading for Vmart & Lee??
Ok guys MLBTR has the f'in dodgers trying to trade for both Vmart & Lee. Billingsley/Kershaw, & Loney plus minor leaguers are being mentioned. Obviously Sabeans doesn't have the cajones to pull off a trade like this but I might be ok with that cuz it will probably cost a massive package like MadBum, Posey + much more
I am semi-ok with the trade expecially if the deal includes Kershaw, Billingsley, and Loney. Essentially they would break up one of the best young teams for two-three (hopefully) years of two very good older players. What do you guys think? Obviously this makes the freaking Dodgers WS contenders but even with that trade I dont know if it puts them over the top...and if it does i know a great Voodoo witch doctor

Rosenthal printed a retraction. He said both teams denied this trade. The Dodgers are interested in Lee though.

Bummer
I would have loved for them to ship Billingsly and kershaw to AL.

I think everyone hates the Dodgers so much it affects their common sense. That trade would be better for Cleveland in the long run, but it probably makes the Dodgers world series favorites for the next two years. Sort of like when they got Manny and everyone thought it would hurt team chemistry.

Would it really? V-Mart is an upgrade at first, but not really a superlative first baseman and I don’t see Lee over Billingsley or Kershaw being a big enough difference to make up for the service time. It would probably make them better in the short term, yes, but not some unstoppable powerhouse.

unless the Phillies pick up Roy Halladay, the Dodgers would have to be the favorites. Maybe not in the Series against the Yankees, but certainly to get there.

Yeah, but it hurts their future, which is what the Giants are shooting for. Billingsley or Kershaw will be better than Lee in the next couple years, and both guys will be aging and free agents.

He is better but is he significantly better enough this season (and next) to warrant the loss of Billingsley in the future years?

c’mon. The Dodgers aren’t putting Billingsley in that deal, he’s one of the top pitchers in the league already. All the benefits of getting Lee would be cancelled out if they put Billingsley in the deal. They might offer Kershaw, but even then I think they would try to give them something else.

If they offer either they are being shortsighted and dumb. Lee isnt a big enough upgrade this year and next to make the loss of Kershaw or Billingsley worth it.

They should be the favorites already. And while Martinez would be an offensive upgrade over Loney his bat really isn’t enough to be a particularly impact 1B. And I don’t know that Lee would give them much of an upgrade over Kershaw right now, much less the future considerations. They’re much better off keeping both for the long run. AFter all, after the long season even great pitchers are frequently too tired by playoff time to be as dominating as they are over the course of the year. And truly craptacular ones can suddenly go through a lucky dominating stretch (lest we forget: Jeff Weaver).
