Kelly Shoppach anyone?

I've been thinking about V-Mart and all, but have been pretty discouraged after reading that both BoSox deals have been shot down.  I've also heard that Shapiro will take nothing less than any team's top talent, and I think everyone on here as come to a general consensus that we do not want to deal any of Posey, Bumgarner, Angel V, or Alderson.  Without 1 of the 4, I dont think a deal would even get to started.

So I started thinking about Shoppach.  I actually like the guy and realize that he is probably still worth a decent amount.  But by no means is he worth any of our top talent.  Now I know we want instant offense now, but he clearly has pop...he proved that last season by hitting 21 homers in 350 PAs.  He'd also be under team control for a number of years and I think this a kind of way to give us a real back up/ future catcher besides Posey who is probably at least a season or two away from the bigs...this is always saying that he sticks at catcher-I thought that there was some talk on him staying there or not.

I also like Ryan Garko from the Indians as well but thats still up in the air.  Personally id rather have a tandem of him and Ishi rather than Aurilia.

Garko would be a good pickup – I think Kelly Shoppach would cost too much to be a stopgap catcher/future backup.

Doumit!

And when Posey comes up move Doumit to 1’st.

I think Garko would be nice for the right price too.

Shoppach I dunno… His numbers from last year are kinda strange:21 HR and only 55 RBI.
Plus he’s only batting .194 this year.

He batted in the lower half of the batting order, so he had less chances with men on base.

Even still..
Pedro Feliz 2007: 20HR 74 RBI.

If I weren’t lazy tonight I’d look up Shoppach’s RISP #’s

Eh, I wouldn’t put much stock in them anyway.

Shoppach is 7 for 45 this year with RISP. Previous three seasons: 41 for 162 (.253). Horrible this year, below “meh” the previous three years.

No thanks to Shoppach. He k’s almost 40% of the time he comes to the plate. Power or not, that is awful.

The only Kelly I’d be willing to target in a trade is Kelly Johnson.

I like Johnson too, but I’m not sure the Braves would give him up. Prado is having a great year, but if he slumps Johnson is more of a sure thing. To me, the Braves are our biggest threat to the wild card with the Cubs being a close second. I think the Rockies will cool down, but the Braves lineup is now stacked, and they have a really good rotation. McLouth, Prado, Chipper, McCann, Escobar, Anderson, Diaz or Church, and Casey Kotchman? That’s one of those lineups where almost anyone in it would bat cleanup for the Giants.

been my white whale for a while

and an improvement at a position where we definitely need it.

Jonathan Sanchez. He's left-handed, like Barry Zito. His fastball breaks 80, unlike Zito.
