Fresno: RHP Steve Palazzolo: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER
Reno: RHP Tom Gordon: 1.0 IP
While no one reached base twice for the Grizzlies, Timpner's 10th double was their only XBH.
Martinez made his fourth rehab start for the Grizzlies and seventh rehab appearance overall, which included a season-high 5 K. Palazzolo allowed hits to four of the eight batters he faced, helping to raise his ERA above 5.25. The Diamondbacks' Gordon pitched a perfect 8th inning as he continues in his rehab and efforts to get back to the majors.

Peguero and Fairley combined for six of the GreenJackets' thirteen hits and all three of their XBHs. Peguero remains red-hot with another three-hit game and his AVG now up to .369. Fairley's AVG is now up to .245.
For the second straigt start, Stolp didn't have his sinker working, allowing 5 ER and eight flyball outs.

Pucetas would be my choice as well. But I fear the wrath of the anti-Wins, anti-BA stat geeks here, so you didn’t see me type that.
Sergio Romo: striking out professional hitters since 2005. And winner of the 2012 NL Fireman of the Year Award!
I honestly have a growing curiosity in Pucetas, although I would probably leave him in Fresno until next year. He was in high A last year and his numbers have taken a bit of a dive in Fresno. Some more time to adjust might be helpful.
Proud father of Juan Carlos Perez. Think Albert Pujols at a position to be determined.
@#$% Juan Uribe. Dios es grande.
FEAR OUR WRATH
But really, while Pucetas’s win totals are impressive, he did it in previous years with good K/BB totals. Now he’s just getting lucky.
3.09 BB/9, 5.03 K/9 in AAA is not good, and to have success in the majors you better have a Brandon Webb buzzsaw sinker, which he doesn’t have.
Sure, he might be able to hang on to a 5th starter job, but there is no magic win juice.

I think so. Last month when I spoke to Joe in SJ, he said the team would make a decision on his status around the break. Seems like he’s doing well in Fresno, and they probably didn’t want to rush him. So we’ll see.

Both teams had a balk, actually.
The Aces balk came with the bases loaded, so that is how the Grizzlies scored 1 of their runs.

WTF! No Posey for his 1st home Grizzlies game.
I specifically went to this game to see Buster and he didn’t play :(
Some other random notes:
The Grizzlies bats looked anemic against a pitcher who was 3-7 with ~6.00ERA.
Joe Martinez was kind of meh tonight. He seemed to miss his location a lot.
Brett Butler signed autographs for several people. The guy next to me was ecstatic about getting Butler’s autograph.
don’t you know. Brett Butler is dead to us all. He said the unforgivable upon his wearing satanic blue.

Baron
I spoke to the Giants scout who signed Antoan, a few weeks after Antoan had been selected. He viewed him as a low-risk prospect who just might surprise folks. After that, I was always hoping we’d get lucky with the pick. Too bad, but definitely worth a shot.
If the scout comes back through next month when Fresno comes to town, I’ll ask him his thoughts about the release.
Sergio Romo: striking out professional hitters since 2005. And winner of the 2012 NL Fireman of the Year Award!
I see Frandsen has reported to Fresno ( 1-4 ) and the Rohlinger off 3rd base expeirment is over. I actualy like the idea of the franchise playing Rohlinger in various INF spots to see if he could at least by a cheap back up for a couple year.
That’s it! Katie bar the door for this 79 win team is star crossed! And I am loving it.
Dominican SL ages
Willoughby (20.8 y,o.) […] Mendoza (17.11 y.o.)
Is 20.8 old for this league, or does the league cover a wider range of ages
(I’m assuming there’s no multi-tiering like our A, AA, AAA)?

Without researching this further, my gut feel is that there a fair number of 20-year-olds in the DSL. However, most prospects would be playing in a U.S. league by the time they are 18 or 19 years old, if not even when they are 17 years old.
The DSL is like the team’s academy, right? Like the kids are signed as early as age 16 and spend years in the academy learning baseball as well as English and other things. So it’s sort of like them going through school like kids would here in the States.

Brock motherfucking Bond
.400 avg in July, something like .345 for the season and he draws walks. If we weren’t so stacked at 2B he might have a shot to do something in this organization.
So you’re saying Uribe has man-boobs?

The lead-off batter is supposed to do whatever it takes to get on base, so the #3 or #4 guy can hit him in. It has been working pretty well for the Defenders.

No, the leadoff hitter is supposed to be fast and the #2 hitter good at contact and bunting. Just ask 90%+ of all major-league managers!

Notes from Visalia
Neal is just plain smoking the ball – all three of his hits last night were struck well. I was trying to pay attention to his swing and although I am certainly no expert, it appears to me that it should translate well as he moves up the ladder towards the Bigs. Neal doesn’t have a lot of movement, just a short step toward the ball as he squares up from his slightly open stance and he puts lots of power into his swing. I was also watching Roger’s swing and he starts with his elbows in tight and then as he prepares to swing he relaxes and opens up. He doesn’t appear to swing as hard as Neal, but he can still sting the ball very well. Roger has somewhere in the neighborhood of 81 RBI’s already and Neal isn’t far behind. They should both be over 100 for the season – I wonder when the last Giant batter at any level had over 100 RBI’s?
Ford’s first hit was a bunt to the right of the pitcher and due to his speed the pitcher, knowing he had to hurry, tried to quickly grab the ball to throw it and could not get a handle on it. Ford’s triple was a fly over the center fielder’s head and with his speed Ford made it to third standing up.
I was noticing the size of the SJ club when they lined up during the National Anthem – besides Shane Jordan and Skyler, these guys are all large sized and Ziegler and Maroul are just plain huge.
The first two times Nick was up he swung at the first pitch and grounded out to the second baseman. I started yelling at him to take the first pitch, which he did one time and in his last at bat, when he managed a single down the third base line he fouled off the first pitch. He did make a good play in the field on a grounder towards the hole between first and second that took a very high bounce and he showed good speed on the bases. There is still hope as he has the tools.
Odle pitched well, but he was facing a Rawhide lineup that is pretty anemic – their highest batting average is the lead off man and the rest are mostly batting below .250. W. Rodriguez pitched the eighth, opened with a single and a walk and then induced a grounder to Bocock who started a third to second double play – something you don’t see too often. Trey Webb finished the game and induced three pop ups.
Another good game by the visiting Giants.

Wait, what that’s about my swing?
My Bucardo is better than yours.
A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
