Rolen & Scutaro: Any interest?
Rolen is owed $11 million next year so I don't think it'd cost much in terms of prospects to get the two of them. Shift the Panda to 1st, Scutaro at 2nd, improves the offense quite a bit while not giving up much defensively. Thoughts?

Scutaro always intrests me. But he does the Forbidden Result (walks) and I am not sure how that can sunk on to the team.

I get the feeling that they wouldn’t come cheap at all. In a vacuum, I’d love to go out and get one or both of them, though.

This would only be a minor bonus, but we could also use Ishikawa as a late-inning replacement…either to rest Rolen so that he stays healthy, or to take out Panda a boost the defense a bit.

Well Scutaro walks after the year and Rolen is fragile and owed a lot of money. I’m pretty sure we could get it done without including the top 5 (I’ve personally add Neal to the big 4, who I think are tier above all our other prospects). Sosa+one of Crawford/Kieshnick maybe? Am I overvaluing our prospects and the Jays determination to cut salary?

Hard to say. I hope you’re right, though!

If I knew Rolen would stay healthy, I’d be tempted. Jays should be willing to dump his salary for lesser prospects.

I’d like to have Scutaro, but I dunno how much we’d have to give up to get him. He’s having a pretty good year.

Scutaro is the best defensive SS in the league (or at least near-best). Move Renteria to second (or bench him if we have the stomach for it).
Anyway good ideaz

Can you imagine how much minor league loot the Giants would have to give up to get Halladay, Rolen and Scutaro?

This idea was already posted
I like the idea of going after Rolen, but you’re late to the discussion. Trading for Rolen was already hashed-out in-depth on this board beginning 12 days ago:
http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2009/7/13/947347/rolen-for-prospects
For that threadpost the most frequent coupling suggested was Alex Rios, not Scutaro. Rolen should come cheap because he’s basically a salary dump. Sabean is not likely to give the Jays anything near what they’d want for Scutaro since he’s a 2.5 month rental before being a FA at the end of this season. Sabes has been quite steadfast about his disinterest in trading for a short-termer unless the other team is basically giving him away – which probably rules out Scutaro. He would be a nice pick up as a FA though.

It was a good post.
One reason I didn’t talk much about Scutaro there is I had, and still do have, a hard time thinking the Jays would put him up on the block for anything but a highway robbery type trade. The troubles the Jays have had for several years at SS before him , he great glove work and very cheep contract stillmakes me kind of view being on the " I wanted a Pony, and team of baseball playing robots and.." list.

Scutaro at SS would be wonderful.

must stick up for my guy here. He’s stunk lately, but he was obviously injured. Before that he hit with men on base, and although his range and arm are lousy, he makes most of the important plays that he has to. I can’t think of any fielding errors from Edgar that have really cost us.
Proud new dad of Edgardo errr Edgar Renteria!!!

True. But if Renteria was at second that bum wing of his would not be as much of an issue either.
