Adrian Gonzalez rumor
They are talking about a rumor on KNBR. I called and they said they got it from the Chronicle and ESPN. I searched each site and see nothing about it. Anyone know what they are talking about?

Boston Herald – The Red Sox are reportedly trying hard to acquire first baseman Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres.
A source told the Boston Herald that the Sox are extremely interested, but that they have been rejected by San Diego.
The Padres entered Thursday’s action at 37-58, twenty-four games behind the Dodgers in the NL West.

Huh. Right after trading for LaRoche, too….

I’m thinking they just have very little faith in both Ortiz and Lowell.

What are the Sox gonna do with Gonzalez? Don’t they already have like three first basemen?
I think Selig will eventually change the MLB rules so the Sox and Yankees can have 40-man rosters year-round.

Bench Ortiz. Yuk to third. Lowell to DH until he is completely healthy. Gonzalez to 1B

Pretty sure they’d bench Lowell over Ortiz.

Not this year. Lowell is hitting like 100 points higher than papi

So?
Ortiz had an awful start to the year. Since June he has been much better, also Lowell is a walking injury waiting to happen.

Lowell doesn’t need to play third to get hurt.

The Red Sox would have to trade just about their entire farm team plus Jon Lester for the Padres to do this. Trade an All-Star, homerun hitting hometown-bred Mexican ballplayer for anything less than the moon? I don’t think even Kevin Towers is that stupid.

one team really wanting to acquire a player and the other team telling said team to fuck off does not constitute a trade rumor

Blue Jays are going to have to lower their price. Dodgers have infield prospects that interest Toronto, and they have arms other than Kershaw and Bills, who obviously are going to off-limits when they are a huge part of the Dodgers success for this year and if they want to be good in the future.
The Dodgers have plenty more that would interest Toronto, they have a really deep system.
by Hobbes2d on Jul 23, 2009 11:25 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
they don’t have to trade him
by FluLikeSymptoms on Jul 23, 2009 11:33 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
True, but they’re only going to get less value going forward.
by Hobbes2d on Jul 24, 2009 1:35 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Also it seems like Toronto might be in dire straits economically, so they might need to trade him to get Roy off their books because they cant give Wells away, and Rios obviously isn’t as attractive as Halladay is.

Not much of a rumor. Boston wants Adrian Gonzalez and SD says no. If they had any encouragement at all on the Gonzalez front, they wouldn’t have made the deal for LaRoche.

LaRoche is a bench option for them and insurance if Ortiz or Lowell have to go on the DL. They tried to get Tex in the off-season, and it would be a great move for them to try to get Gonzalez. If he they did get him, the Giants should trade for Lars Anderson.
by Hobbes2d on Jul 23, 2009 6:36 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
LaRoche makes 7 million dollars. That’s a lot of money for a sub. They might pay it because of the fragile health of Lowell and Ortiz, but I don’t think they would pay it if they thought they had a shot at Adrian Gonzalez. They would have waited. As for Lars Anderson, the Giants’ are no longer in that mode. They’re looking to add to the major league roster, not trade for prospects, although I don’t disagree with you.
Proud new dad of Edgardo errr Edgar Renteria!!!

Not quite correct
BoSox will only pay LaRoche about $3M for the rest of the year – not $7M – then he becomes a FA. It’s a mute point anyway, because no way the Pads would take him as part of a Gonzales trade since they’d only own him for 2 months then lose him to FA.

Adrian Gonzalez not on the trading block
mlb trade rumors said that Gonzalez is not on the trading block.
by northsfbay on Jul 24, 2009 2:47 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I didn't realize that MLBTradeRumors were the new owners of the Pads
If you hang your hat on everything that you read on that site you’ll go crazy. They consistently print stories that contradict each other from one day to the next.
In general, no player is ever off the trading block. I’m 100% sure that the BoSox could easily put together a package of pitchers and players that would knock the Pads’ socks off (no pun intended) if they really wanted Gonzalez. If they offered Clay Buchholz, Lars Anderson, Casey Kelly, and others, do you really think the Pads would balk?

Moorad is quoted in the S.D. Union Tribune as stating emphatically that Adrian will not be traded this year. This is as of like Monday or Tuesday.
