We now have a pet skink. The cat kept catching it in the backyard, we kept letting it go, and the cat kept catching it. Last time she caught it, she left the poor thing (1) in the living room and (2) with no tail. So we are keeping it until it’s tail grows back.

I just dont get it, was it the break that just really screwed everything up or is this what we were meant to be?
So the Giants clearly need a shot in the arm, is it too late to trade for Holliday? I was against the idea before, but now that I think about it, it might not be too bad. Can package Alderson, Frandsen, Lewis and an arm or two for 2 1/2 months of Holliday plus offer him arbitration, which he won’t accept. He either signs with Giants or walks and the Giants get 3 picks in the top 45.
I think it’s worth the risk. Plus it would be nice to have a hitter who doesn’t hack at slop constantly.
well on top of that wouldn’t you imagine he’d want a TON of money and a long term deal? Are we even sure the Giants would fork over money for him? i would be down for it
but if the Giants are willing to do that anyway, why not wait until the offseason? To win now?

I think the Giants would have a better chance to sign if he played for them for the rest of the year. Otherwise you have teams with deeper pockets that will go after him.
that might be true, but more likely it will come down to the biggest bid. He’s a boras client and will test the market no matter what and won’t be giving any discounts.

Well the way i look at it, is how do we know we will be at the same position next year? We have the wild card within our grasps and right now we’re just sittin back and letting it go by… I’m not saying we should give up the whole farm to get Holliday but they should do something for a proven hitter
there are never guarantees. But if that’s the attitude then we should be trading Posey and Bumgarner and Neal and Crawford and the whole lot for Holliday, Halladay and Rios and Sanchez, etc.

Yea i see where you’re goin with it, guess the frustration is making me think wrong, look, all i’m saying is that there is no way we should be trading away studs in our farm system which has taken us quite a few years to finally be top in the league, but what are we supposed to do? Other than give up prospects which i wouldnt do at all…
I really never expected the team to be contenders with this particular team. If we have a winning season with this team, then it is a successful season, AND we have a group of studs coming up to replace the subpar guys we have now.
I mean, I’d like to make a trade as much as anyone, but standing pat is better than doing something dumb and short-sighted. I’m in it for the long haul. I hope the team sticks to the rebuilding plan they’ve been going with and not be too tempted by immediate gratification.

The problem I’m having is that rebuilding is just so risky. The odds of making a true contender are better now than sitting back and hoping the prospects work out.

rebuilding is risky, but it’s more cost effective, which improves our chances of resigning our own guys instead of wasting big money on the Zitos, Renterias and Rowands of the world. This org has been an utter failure at trying to buy a championship, and the best way to go is to win consistently is to develop the studs and supplement with free agents and do some intelligent trading of younger unproven players (not necessarily top prospects) for those parts. We’re off to a good start, but patience is required and there are no guarantees anyway which way you do it.
Anyway, overreacting to a bad road trip isn’t going to lead to good decisions.

Yea, agreed, i didn’t see this team as much of anything either, like i said it just gets at my head sometimes.
Plus i totally agree, makes no sense to get a short term solution and give up studs in the system, all i’m hoping for now is that these bats will at least pick it up and start hitting something. Just depressing, but i agree with you
