I bet you him and Lewis what pry for a managment change this winter or a trade.
So does this mean Uribe to play SS more or Downs up here just to sweep slivers off the bench and occasionaly pinch hit?

I believe this is officially the end to Fransden’s career as Giant. He must be a huge dick or something. Let’s just hope he has some trade value since I’m pretty sure Sabean will try to get him into any deadline deal.

If the team wants to see if he can play, they need to put him in the lineup consistently for a little while. If they don’t give a rat’s ass, then they should leave him in Fresno and toss him in a trade with some big leaguers and be done with him. I’m not particularly attached to him one way or another, but he should at least be given a chance to play somewhere, if not in SF.

I really have a tough time getting upset about what happens with Frandsen no matter what happens. We can complain about his being jerked around and not given a chance all we want, but I never saw him as more than a utility guy anyway. I never saw the Robbie Thompson comparisons.
And, between just us, he does kinda seem like a self-assured, self-promoting pr*ck sometimes. I’ve never met him nor do I know anyone close to him, but when guys act like their enititled and do the “I’m a big-leaguer” thing when they’re actually pretty fringy, it’s off-putting.
I felt the same way about Linden.

I don’t understand. Seemingly, the opposite would be to say, “Yeah, I’m getting pretty used to the 99 freeway, it’s not so bad, I have all these podcasts of ‘Prairie Home Campanion’ that I am really enjoying. Sabean must know what he is doing.”
I don’t have to like the guy for him to play for my team (Barry Bonds), but wanting to be with the big club, and thinking you belong there seems like it would be requirement for any big-leauger, right?
Then again, maybe I just haven’t heard how deuchey he is…

I'm not upset for Frandsen's sake...
…I just think it’s dumb to keep swapping these guys back and forth. If they really think Downs is better than Frandsen, okay, but it’s hard to see how they came to that conclusion over the last 2 weeks since they last swapped them.

So Bochy’s quote doesn’t disturb you?
The Frandsen/Downs move was due largely to the struggles of Juan Uribe, who will return to more of a utility infield role, Bochy said. The manager referred to Frandsen as "more of a stopgap guy."
"When Frandsen came up, we needed help up the middle," Bochy said. "This is more of where Downsie is going to get playing time at second. He’s been very consistent with his play and at-bats. He had three hits the other day. We’ll see if we can’t get some offense going here."
Really? Downs is that much better than Frandsen?
Insanity is just a state of mind.

Stop the presses! Downs had three hits the other day!
Also, Frandsen was 2 for 4 on July 5th and was called up on July 6th. Roster management based on extremely small sample size!
It mystifies me that they think Downs is any less of a “stopgap guy” than Frandsen. Their career numbers in the minors are very close and their 2009 numbers even closer.

I'm not really seeing much more pop.
Downs’ career SLG is .488, Frandsen’s is .457, but Frandsen’s includes half a year in the power sucking vacuum of CT (.395 SLG) which Downs skipped. Just doesn’t seem like a significant difference. Nothing I’ve read about their defense suggests a significant difference either.

His minor league stats: .322/.385/.457. As good as Freddy Sanchez. Better than Chase Utley, Orlando Hudson, Aaron Hill, Brian Roberts, and Dan Uggla. Just a tick behind Dustin Pedroia.
Now, those aren’t perfect comparisons. Pedroia was younger, for example. I have no idea about park effects for any of the above players. But when you go down a list of 2B by VORP or WARP, you usually don’t find a lot of players who were can’t-miss prospects. Usually, it’s a story like Frandsen: hit for average, played solid defense, developed later.
Frandsen’s only bump in the road was the unfortunate 2007 season. He got a lot of MLB at-bats, and he struggled until the last month of the season. Everywhere else — from A to AAA — he’s hit.
I’m not suggesting that he’s the next Brian Roberts, Freddy Sanchez, or Dan Uggla. But it would have been just as insane to suggest that Brian Roberts, Freddy Sanchez, or Dan Uggla were going to turn into the next Brian Roberts, Freddy Sanchez, or Dan Uggla. And when a team has a festering, foul-smelling hole at second base, only a really strange organization wouldn’t give Frandsen a half-season to see if he’d surprise, especially at the expense of Manny Burriss and Matt Downs.

That may be, but he doesn’t pass the sniff test with me. Just watching him, he doesn’t look particularly good at anything. To me he just looks like a solid utility infielder. If he was faster, had more pop or played sparkling defense, I’d get more excited.

The Giants showing, once again, how clueless they are at evaluating hitting prospects
It’s the same old story. Hitting prospects bounce around worse than Jonathan Sanchez in this organization. AAA to bench to starting for a week back to bench back to AAA back to bench, etc. etc. etc.
I’m just glad they’re giving Bowker some time. How long will it last, though?
And this one is extremely ridiculous. They made a move they didn’t even have to make (Aurilia on the DL was all they needed to do).
