what's the deal, sergio?
i have enjoyed your spirit and electric stuff for awhile. i have only wished good things from you. i have tried to keep a positive spin on poor performances in relation to recovery from the disabled list and youthful inexperience. but, there has been a nasty little grain of doubt in my oyster mind and the pearl that is forming needs to be released. i finally looked up the stats for the last few games you have pitched and this is what I saw...

seven out of the last 10 appearances have resulted in two or more baserunners. 3 out of the last ten you have not recorded a single out. obviously the last two were the worst. but what the hell, man? what's going on? are teams getting a bead on you now, or is it mathematical variance? tell me what to do, sergio. tell me what to believe... |

column headings would be a good addition.
I’ve been worried about The Surge for a couple weeks now.
Randy Winn is in time out until his OBP gets back over .330.
Giving up 6 ER over your last two appearances without pitching a full inning will hurt any reliever’s statistics. Even more when you’ve only thrown 13.2 innings on the year.
I’m not worried.
And
Romo isn’t a 2.12 ERA reliever like he was last year, but he should be a good bet to post an ERA in the mid 3’s.
it doesn’t seem like his FB control has been shaky since early July?
Randy Winn is in time out until his OBP gets back over .330.
I dunno really. The most he’s walked in any relief appearance is 1. He just hasn’t thrown enough innings for me to be worried yet. I hope he’s healthy, but I don’t know how much you can pull from 13.2 innings of relief.
Also, if we’re talking about bullpen concerns, I’m more worried about the team grinding Affeldt’s arm into a paste and Brandon Medders turning back into Brandon Medders.
Since Romo came back, Affeldt has not been overused nearly as much: no longer in the top 35 for appearances or IP.
Medders only becomes a concern if he has to soak up higher leverage innings.
The main thing that worries me is the injury that Romo came back from, coupled with the sudden increase in walks.
Randy Winn is in time out until his OBP gets back over .330.

plus let’s be fair, how many of those runners he allowed the past 2 games were stranded by the following relievers?

I think you're overreacting a bit here.
The guy has had two bad outings in a row, but that doesn’t mean he’s losing it. Teams are probably scouting him better, which means he needs to adjust.

I'm not too worried
I’d rather that when he give up runs, they come in bunches, and put up zero’s the rest of the time. He’s had 3 bad outings of his last 4. When that number becomes 7 of 10, then I’ll hit the panic button

I only watched a bit of Romo
last night… before I got disgustipated.
BUT was he not getting his slurvyness called strikes? It looked (to me) like those were strikes before the ASG. Not so much in Atlanta or Pittsburgh.
