Because winning the League Championship is the pinnacle in baseball, it’s not like there is a series that would pit the two leagues against each other. League Championship and THAT’S IT.

Old Hoss Radbourn? I knew Old Hoss Radbourn. Knew him from after he moved out to Kinnewatchee after the crash of ‘93. He had this girl Missy, I never did find out if she his daughter or his wife, or if they had some other arrangement, if you know what I mean. Anyhow one day Missy runs off and Old Hoss, he just about tore up the whole town. You never seen a man so angry. They found Missy in a ditch a couple of weeks later. Looked like wild hogs got at her. Never did find out what killed her. Old Hoss, he packed up after that. Left town and never came back. Can’t say I miss him much. I sure do miss Missy.

I think the “announcer’s jinx” is simply that by the time a pitcher gets so good that an announcer feels the need (or is instructed by a producer) to talk about it, is the time he gets tired/careless/the offense figures him out.

We couldn’t believe no one else was hit.

That was exciting at least. I prefer a heart crushing, walk-off loss over a pathetic game like this.

I remember a game in the mid-90s when the Giants had like an 8-run lead early – I think it was against Les Expos – and they ended up losing. That combines excitement with patheticness. The latter of which is not a word.

no, not at all

I don’t have as elaborate a schema as Bill Simmons, but this was one of those games where your spirit is unburdened early because you’ve completely given up and you’re just enjoying the GIFs. Plus, the game wasn’t TOO embarrassing and we did prevent the shutout. On the other hand after a while you feel crappy again because the offensive ineptitude and the miserable hacking from our cleanup hitter make you worry that the Giants will fall hopelessly out of the playoff hunt by the end of July.

Bowker in left

I can’t tell because of teeny-tiny low-res feed, but it doesn’t look like Bowker’s got a lot of range. These last two doubles haven’t been routine, but Bowker didn’t even come close on either.

He got doubled off on a shallow pop fly to center when the second baseman deked him into thinking it was going to drop.
