Because winning the League Championship is the pinnacle in baseball, it’s not like there is a series that would pit the two leagues against each other. League Championship and THAT’S IT.
Didn't they cancel the 2002 postseason... or something?

Truthfully
I’d rather have that World Series loss as opposed to the Cubs who hasn’t seen a World Series since 1945.
I have great feelings about that. The WS on the other hand…

Old Hoss Radbourn? I knew Old Hoss Radbourn. Knew him from after he moved out to Kinnewatchee after the crash of ‘93. He had this girl Missy, I never did find out if she his daughter or his wife, or if they had some other arrangement, if you know what I mean. Anyhow one day Missy runs off and Old Hoss, he just about tore up the whole town. You never seen a man so angry. They found Missy in a ditch a couple of weeks later. Looked like wild hogs got at her. Never did find out what killed her. Old Hoss, he packed up after that. Left town and never came back. Can’t say I miss him much. I sure do miss Missy.
indeed they did
“Folks say that if you listen real close at the height of the full moon, when the wind is blowin’ off Nantucket Sound from the nor’ east and the dogs are howlin’ for no earthly reason, you can hear the awful screams of the crew of the “Ellie May,” a sturdy whaler Captained by John McTavish; for it was on just such a night when the rum was flowin’ and, Davey Jones be damned, big John brought his men on deck for the first of several screaming contests."

An excess of caution from a very young age leaves you old and unable to ride a bicycle. It’s all about tradeoffs.
As much as I want to bash Zito for today, a bunch of this is the crappy defense playing behind them. They are just comically bad.

If Zito is sucking and we're screwed anyway, why not just leave him out there?
Seriously – its not like we will score 4 runs. Tony La Russa did this with Mortensen; let Zito mopup.
Jonathan Sanchez. He's left-handed, like Barry Zito. His fastball breaks 80, unlike Zito.

Haren has a lower ERA and a superior K/BB, and he pitches in an extreme hitters’ park.

Ooh hey
I’m going to the night at the park on the 27th, and then to the game on August 1. If the Giants start with the top of the rotation after the All Star Break, those should both be Lincecum starts – thus tripling the number of times I’ve seen Lincecum pitch in person!

Don’t count on it. It doesn’t always happen that way. Many teams don’t start with their best pitchers coming out of the break.
Well, it looks like Zito should pitch the last game before the break. I assume they’d skip Sadowski in those circumstances.

I remember a game in the mid-90s when the Giants had like an 8-run lead early – I think it was against Les Expos – and they ended up losing. That combines excitement with patheticness. The latter of which is not a word.

I don’t have as elaborate a schema as Bill Simmons, but this was one of those games where your spirit is unburdened early because you’ve completely given up and you’re just enjoying the GIFs. Plus, the game wasn’t TOO embarrassing and we did prevent the shutout. On the other hand after a while you feel crappy again because the offensive ineptitude and the miserable hacking from our cleanup hitter make you worry that the Giants will fall hopelessly out of the playoff hunt by the end of July.
