Sanchez extension talks fall through
"Both Freddy Sanchez and Jack Wilson have rejected the Pirates' contract offers, and as of Sunday, neither has come back to present a counter-offer. The absence of any sort of counter-offer, general manager Neal Huntington said, does not leave the organization optimistic that a deal will be reached with either player in the coming days."
Sanchez's offer was a ridiculous lo-ball. Even in this economy, 2 years/10M is a joke for one of the top 2B's in the league, particularly one poised to reach an $8M vesting option. There were suggestions that these talks were just a PR move, but that offer is farcical. Being a Pirates fan must be worse than being a Warriors fan.

I mentioned this in the gameday thread. The offers to these two players was an insult. It was a ploy by management to tell their fans that they attempted to keep their popular DP combo together but the player’s outrageous demands forced them to deal them.
Proud new dad of Edgardo errr Edgar Renteria!!!
The Sanchez offer was a joke
The Wilson offer seems about right, in light of the collapse of the FA market.

but if wilson just stays healthy he’ll make more next year than he would in the 2 year offer they made
Thing A
No, he won't.
From the article:
Wilson’s offer was also for two years and worth $8 million. It would take the place of his $8.4 million club option for next season, an option that the Pirates have already confirmed will not be picked up.</blockquote
Sanchez’s option is vesting, Wilson’s is not.

It was fun for two years in the last fifteen
"Catcher are base running. Hitters are offense."
Only [hella] games left until the end of Zito's [no, make that Rowand's] contract.

I had fun during the 48 win season, too.

I chose the Warriors comp for a reason.
The Warriors suck now, but they’ve been good in the past, and they’ve got their ring.
The Clippers are more like the Brewers (3 playoff appearances, 12 winning seasons in 40 years of operation).

The Warriors have legit young talent right now though.. Same can’t be said about the Pirates.
Brandon Crawford: Your SF Giants 2011 Opening Day starting SS!
Perhaps.
They may be closer to a playoff spot, I don’t think that they’re really much closer to serious contention for a title than the Pirates are. I realize that’s statement seems odd, but it’s a product of 1) the strict luxury tax in the NBA, and 2) a sport in which it’s very difficult to win a ring without a top 5 talent, and 3) a game in which the playoffs are easier to reach and far less of a craps shoot.

Warriors may not be that far away, though.
Randolph is a supremely interesting talent, who may very well be top 10 within 3 years.
Without injuries, they may well be a playoff caliber team (even if they don’t get in, as stacked as the west is). But there is a very real chance of them being a dangerous play off team in 2 years, and a contender the year after. That can’t be said for the Pirates.

Note to Pirates management, the Pittsburgh fans know what a good organization looks like. IE Steelers and Penguins. And the Pirates before 1994.
I think it’s really sad that they had to insult their fans AND their 2 current players like this. If you don’t want them, then just fucking trade them. Don’t insult tons of people by trying to mask it as some outrageous player contract demands as forcing your hands.
The Pirates need to just give Sanchez to us and be done with it.

If I was Jack Wilson, however, I would take the money and run
I only have a signature because I recognize everyone else by their sigs, not their usernames..
Why?
he could probably get twice that from Sabean
Congratulations and Thank you Jonathan Sanchez.

Proud father of Dallas Mcpherson. If you have any information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the kidnapping of my son please contact me immediately. Reward if found!
And Renteria would still be paid more (including signing bonus) D:
Aaron King is still my homeboy... iffy mechanics and all
If Dustin Pedroia played in Seattle, not many people would be talking about him.
GET THAT VORP SH!T OUTTA HERE!!!
I’m kind of into the idea of trading for Freddy Sanchez and trying to get the Pirates to throw Ian Snell into the deal as well.
