Halladay looks like he could be Tim’s dad
Chris Dominguez: Bringing dingerz back to The Bay (In a while)
caption
Cheesus. That really is the feeling you get looking at this picture. I have the strange urge to ask Timmy to grow up.
Simulated conversation
Tim’s dad: Hi Tim.
Tim: Hi dad.
Tim’s dad: Look son, maybe you should wear something nice to the press conference today. It’s a big media event.
Tim: I dunno. I just want to be comfortable.
Tim’s dad: Do me a favor. Just put on a collared shirt or something for the event.
Tim: …okay.
[hangs up phone]
[Tim selects ugly shirt]
Tim: Only said it had to be collared!

LOST DIALOGUE
TIMMY: Oh, and Pop?
TIM’S FAKE DAD: Yeah?
TIMMY: I know you’re coming straight from work, but please, please, can you try to change out of your mattress salesman get-up? I’m sure Albert Pujols can get a good price on a Serta just for being Albert Pujols.
TIME’S FAKE DAD: Are you making FUN of me? I put food on the tab —
TIMMY: Other line is ringing, BYYYYE!!!

Adopted Giant Darren "Speedy" Ford. Said by Andrew Baggarly to be the fastest minor league player and the best defensive outfielder in the Giants Organization. Now playing for your San Jose Giants.
Compared to Kobe, Lebron, Wade yes.
But come on he’s the only somewhat marquee guy who has done it lately. Fred Jones, Gerald Green, And a bunch of other losers = meh.
Amare did it too, but bigs aren’t as creative or good dunkers as the wing players. Oh yeah and FUCK Nate Robinson. Let’s give him 30 tries each time!
Dwight Howard is not “somewhat marquee” and is certainly creative. Think of how you feel when ignorant Philly fans jock Werth over Pablo, multiply that feeling by about 10, and you’d be where a Magic fan would if he/she read that comment.

He wasn't insulting the nationality, nor was he doing it for humor.
He was describing a slice of something the way he saw it— and certainly chose his words poorly. But there IS a point to be made that players from the Caribbean basin do not value plate discipline when compared to other sources of major league ballplayers. That is generally true, and it was specifically true of the Giants he was describing. (it is also true, of course, of other types, as we are seeing this year.)
Forsan et haec olim meminisse iuvabit... Maybe.

Except...
The most prominent Caribbean’\ player on that team had the highest walk-rate.
Several of the non-‘Caribbean’ players had some of the worst.
It was not only insulting, but that one word made the statement wrong! Inaccurate! Whatever you want to call it. So why did he put it in?
Because of the reputation of Caribbean players. I’d call that prejudice.

Don't even joke about that.
I don’t want the Panda anywhere near a home run derby. He is the full-out type of guy who will really injure himself.

His swing is similar to Prince’s (as in the effort of it), so if Prince has a bad next month, I’ll buy this theory.
Brandon Crawford: Your SF Giants 2011 Opening Day starting SS!
Not quite the only comparison to make there.
Pablo would swing full-out at EVERYTHING. Pujols actually paces himself a bit. Let’s say the chance of a player getting thrown off enough to mess up his body and thus his swing is, I don’t know, 15%? (Obviously, pulling that number out of the air; not claiming scientific validity. But Abreu, Wright, Granderson are all mentioned as having been adversely affected by the HRD.) The gain of winning this silly exhibition is zero. So a 15% risk that is associated with zero gain is simply not worth taking.

Granderson’s HR rate is way up this year.
Brandon Crawford: Your SF Giants 2011 Opening Day starting SS!
Sigh. Yes. THIS year. This year isn't last year. Presumably, an entire off-season would be enough to counter the effects.
Really, are you trying NOT to get the point? Or do you just not understand physiology enough? Example: people get a knee injury or something; this leads to them walking slightly differently (called a gait), which throws off the rest of their body because little muscles and joints are forced to do something they don’t usually do; this causes back pain, hip pain, etc.
Lesson: little changes in how you physically do certain things can multiply, cause pain in other ways, which forces more changes in how you physically do things, and so on. There are whole branches of medicine that deal with this. (Orthopedics, for one.)
So of course whatever effects that might occur would be expected to be gone by the next year.

And what’s funny is that my 2nd favorite team are the tigers, in fact, i give you this, i wore a Bobby Higginson jersey to a giants game when the tigers lost like 100 games that season, but i did wear my giants hat, and people just didn’t care that i was wearing a tigers jersey, and was just 13 or 14 and the tigers were getting blown out. It was like, 9-0 in the eighth, and the tigers came back to just lose like 9-8 or 9-7, and boy was i getting bitched at for wearing a tiger jersey. People just felt bad for me, haha
Well all of them were in the Derby so...

Since no baseball today, heres a quick minor league update
Chris Dominguez homers in 3 consecutive days(1-3, HR)
Thomas Neal is a single away from a cycle(3-4, double, triple, HR)
RafRod is a walk machine, took his 7th walk in 10 games
also Posey got taken out of the game after being HBP
they need to get him out of the CAL league before these shitty pitchers end his career
wtf

They let him play for the rest of the inning after the HBP but he was taken out after the inning. I hope he’s okay.
San Jose Top 5th
Buster Posey hit by pitch.
Roger Kieschnick grounds into a force out, second baseman David Cooper to shortstop Taylor Harbin. Buster Posey out at 2nd.

Defensive Substitution: Aaron Lowenstein replaces catcher Buster Posey, batting 4th, playing catcher.
Might just be that the game was already won so they game him a break.. I dunno, just speculating.
