Post-Game Recap: Jonathan Sanchez Throws a No-Hitter...On Friday

Well, he did. Remember? It was awesome. That guy hit the fly ball, and Rowand was all zrrroooom, and then he caught it, and then he ran into the wall, and then Sanchez struck out the last guy, and I was all, "Awesome!"

Today's game, though? Uh, not as exciting. My full list of thoughts about this game are after the jump...

Still awesome to finish 10 games over .500 to start the ASB. Our second half schedule is brutal though.

But he does cut it fine. Without a fastball, he has to throw that curve for strikes, and basically never hang one

We can’t do anything about it, we can’t trade him and we can’t undo it. He’s our guy. We either root for him, and live with his failures, or give in to frustration. When he’s on, he’s a very good pitcher.

Soooooo…if we are going to pay Zito anyway, I say cut him and call up Pucetas. There is NO WAY Pucetas will be worse than Zito and will only add $600000 or so to payroll. So we pay slightly more than we already have to, but with better results.

And on the 6th day, God created base-ball, and Barry put one in the water, and it was good.

So, this was the best blowout EVER

for me, at least.

I was at the game (my one Giants game of the year! I live far enough away that going to a Giants game requires waking up early and takes the whole day). After the lolZito started, I was kind of losing interest. Enough, in fact, to actually vote in those insipid polls that come up on the scoreboard between innings.

So imagine my surprise when I get a text message telling me I won Giants tickets. Imagine even more surprise when they tell me that they’re in field club. Now, fathom my excitement when I look at the seating chart and confirm my wildest fantasies. I’m sitting in FC section 113, row D for the August 7th vs. the Reds. For free! :DDDDDD

Barry, we need to talk

This just isn’t working out. It’s not you, it’s me. I think it would be best if you left with your dignity intact.

srsly

the dude just threw 8 scoreless. I know he just had the worst start imaginable against the worst offense in baseball, but srsly. When IM defending Barry Zito you know he must be OK. I fucking hate barry zito.

He’s better than last year. At least not all of his starts suck and his previous start was a thing of beauty, but damn I’m sick of starts like today.

MLBTV is awesome

Just watched the no-hitter in it’s entirety. I never want to forget how I was feeling when it happened.

Wilson bobblehead

I didn’t take one nor did I want one. The Giants actually did something right for a change. They made everyone line up for three different entrances and kept people from cutting in line. I usually enter through Willie Mays gate. The line there was all the way past the bridge to near the carnival. It only took about 10-15 minutes to get to the front of the line. People who wanted to exit had to go to the Marina gate to exit thus keeping the area from being overly crowded. It was very efficient.

I got to the ball park about 11:15. Got in line and got in about 11:25 to 11:30.

I was surprised at how well that system worked

I got there around 11:20 or so and just found the nearest line (which happened to be the one for the Willie Mays gate). At that point, the end was past the McCovey statue next to the t-ball field. Once the line started to move, it was actually quite fast. After walking around the park (and trying to avoid the stampeding herds heading for the Marina gate), I went over to the Arcade to check on the line, and it had pretty much dissipated by the time. So, kudos for good planning, I guess.

The strongest force in the universe is back in the big leagues, brother. So whatcha gonna do, Russell Martin, when the walks, the dingerz, and the power of Bowkermania run wild on you?

I don’t know what’s up with Giants’ fans lately but it seems people are going crazy over bobblehead giveaways now more than ever. I started going to games in 2003 and even during bobblehead days, I can stroll to the stadium around game time and still get a bobblehead but now it’s becoming like the A’s bobblehead games – craziness.

I collect them but not to sell or anything, more as a souvenir that I actually received something in return (besides the game “experience”) with all the money I just gave to the Ginats’ brasss.

The Giants could be giving away a bag of shit and people would line up for it because it’s free.

Sorry guys, it's my fault

I was at the yard last Sunday, Wednesday, and today. What do those things have in common? They were all the last game of a potential sweep and we lost every single one of those. Kinda sucks that you go to three games in a week and those are the ONLY three losses ALL WEEK.

Huh

The poll on gaslampball (the Padres blog here). Little did they know they were facing Zito.:

Will the Padres have a lead at any point in today’s game?

Heck no, unless by “lead” you mean a clue to solve a mystery, in which case, maybe.

Heck yeah, unless by “lead” you mean having more points than the other team, in which case no.

I was touched by some of the personal stories on here after the no hitter. I have one that happened a week before that.

My Mom is a widow and our relationship has been more strained in recent years, but we tolerate each other. She called on 7/3 about having trouble with the garage door opener, so I came over on the 4th to look at it, since she was against leaving the car in the driveway. Being a petite size woman, she also had trouble raising and lowering the door manually. The game was only on radio, so I took mine over there. I live in a condo, so had not been working outside listening to a ballgame since I don’t know when.

Along came 7th inning stretch time, but it being the holiday, they were playing America. I recognized the voice at once and said hey, it’s Kate Smith. As she moved closer to the radio, I turned it up a bit. Mom sang along with some of it, and it was kind of a special moment.
